If you had been Stephen.... (Traitors spoilers)

It's a Traitors one sorry! I know this has probably been discussed elsewhere.

Would you have taken all the money when you had the chance at the end (by voting with Jack to banish Rachel)? A few people have told me they would have and I'm now looking at them in a different way (lightheartedly)!

I wouldn't have but part of it is I would never have been able to face Rachel or Jack afterwards and that wouldn't be worth 50k to me.

YABU- He should have taken the money, 50k is alot and its a game about lying.

YANBU- No he made a promise. It was good he kept his integrity.

YANBU I know it is a game show but think he made the right choice. He got that far as they worked as a team.

MakeYourOwnSunshine · 24/01/2026 21:33

I would have done the same as he did. I think!

SchnizelVonKrumm · 24/01/2026 21:34

I love that they both stuck to their promise throughout, even at the final moment where he knew Jack was going to vote for Rachel. They wouldn't have made it that far without sticking together and worked as a great team.

Mydahliasareshit · 24/01/2026 21:35

It added a new dimension to the show, by proving that trust can work with the right people over time.

BewleyBear · 24/01/2026 21:35

I think I would have tbh, but my question is would Rachel have done the same?

saveforthat · 24/01/2026 21:35

I would have voted Rachel out and was very disappointed when he didn't. That's the game and they are not friends just strangers also playing the game. He would never have to see Rachel, Jack or any of them again (except for uncloaked).

AutumnAllTheWay · 24/01/2026 21:36

He acted with integrity.

I do t think Rachel was planning to do the same if roles were reversed

He would have to live with himself though. I couldn't do that. Rachel deflected suspicion from him in earlier rounds, they were a team.

Teenagerantruns · 24/01/2026 21:38

I would have taken it all. They are not friends.

NameChangedForThis2025 · 24/01/2026 21:38

I think it’s ok to break promises in Traitors, you kind of have to if you’re a traitor, but in this case they’d played such a great game together, and Rachel had his back when the heat was on him earlier on, that I think it would have been pretty cruel of him to jettison her at that point.

I would have understood him voting against her in some of the preceding votes, but not at the point it was down to the final 3.

Ticktockwatchclock · 24/01/2026 21:39

Stephen would have gone down in my estimation of him if he had broken the promise. Integrity stands for a lot in my world and I would have done exactly the same as Stephen and stuck to the promise. Money isn’t everything.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 24/01/2026 21:39

I don’t think I would’ve

I think I’d be aware how I’d come across tbh so wouldn’t want to be slated by the public

but also, he really only got to the final because of her! It was hairy for him a few times and she remained calm and steady and was quite ethical throughout (the only thing I didn’t like was picking on jade)

it was a game of equals re the traitors and he did the right thing

I agree with this. By the final vote he had already won at least 50% of the prize fund and he kept his integrity. It would have been different if they had all been gunning more heavily for Rachel in the earlier votes.

Exactly. When it looked like Stephen was under suspicion, Rachel always had his back. They did work well together and if Stephen had gone for all the money he would have looked really bad.

Toomuchleopard · 24/01/2026 21:47

If he’d voted for Rachel, not only would he have gone against Rachel but Jack would have thought that he had won along with Stephen the faithful. Then he would have had to reveal to Jack he was a traitor despite promising he wasn’t.

People say it’s only a game but in reality all your friends, family and work colleagues would be watching and what would they think of you

GoodVibesHere · 24/01/2026 21:48

Rachel so would've taken the money for herself if she'd been the one in his position.

If he had taken the money I wouldn't have blamed him. They'd only known each other for 2 weeks.

writingsonthewall · 24/01/2026 21:48

I absolutely loved that they kept their word to each other. I would have been so disappointed if he’d stitched her up at the end.

i also loved the ending so much more when neither had to tell someone who thought they’d won that they were a traitor

u3ername · 24/01/2026 21:48

He deserved the money because he made good friends, won the players’ trust, and luck was on his side. He did not lie about other people, patronise or manipulate them. Yes, he lied about not being a traitor, but no choice there. Ideally, he should not have made a promise. However, if the roles were reversed, I imagine Rachel would have conveniently forgotten about the promise during the final round.

Saying that, Stephen chose correctly because that choice has made him more popular and likeable. He will probably get booked more for tv appearances etc and that might pay off better in the end. That is the choice I would have made as well (if able to be rational at that moment).

It would have been a super awkward uncloaked though and ruined his media brand!

Yes, I would have voted rachel out if I were him at the earliest opportunity.Ie when james actually went. Rachel would have done it to him in a heartbeat.

Runningismyhappyplace50 · 24/01/2026 21:52

I would have done the same as Stephen (who I thought was fab!).

forestaremagic · 24/01/2026 21:52

If he took all the money, everyone would know. How would his friends, public treat him? They both deserved the money and glad they won, the faithfuls were rubbish.

I haven't got a media brand (whatever that may be) so I wouldn't have to worry about that.

They'd think you'd done brilliantly to be the sole 90k+ winner on a GAMESHOW.

It's a GAME!

He told lie after lie after lie in the game. "I am 100% faithful."

Perfectly OK to lie to Rachel too, his adversary in the GAMESHOW.

ScarletLipstick · 24/01/2026 22:00

I would have done as Stephen did. But you’ve got your figures wrong. He could have had nearly £100000 if he’d voted Rachel out as he would have been the sole traitor left and got all the money. He got nearly £50000 by sharing with Rachel. I just couldn’t have voted Rachel out then stood there with Jack, who would think I was a faithful and was going to share the money with him then have to tell him I was a Traitor and actually would be taking all the money.
