Women in gym changing room

Was at gym yesterday, it is a posh one in a posh town for context and costs a fortune.

I was getting dressed after a class and this woman comes in, moves my stuff across the bench and the sits down on it in front of a locker.

Gets her stuff out then takes all her clothes off and sits butt naked on the bench while putting on all her kit.

These aren't those wooden benches with the slats they are padded cushioned things. I've never seen anyone do this before. I tried to avert my eyes but she was right in front of me and she had a considerably large arse taking up a good proportion of the bench.

So AiBU? Isn't this gross and unhygienic? Could she not have sat on a towel?

I cannot comprehend why gyms don't have cubicles as standard. To pay for the privilege of being naked in front of randoms and have to be subjected to other nakedness seems utter madness to me.

My advice is don't go to Scandinavia.

Is the AI bot obsessed with gyms this week? Is it meant to motivate us to go or keep us away.

Men should use male changing rooms / private cubicles unless a parent at a the swim session which is age locked and the centre advises otherwise.

Praying in the changing room is fine but don't get in the way of exits.

Moving other people's stuff is rude, being naked in a seat proba8isnt dirtier than sitting on it after public transport or peoe putting their bags etc in it. Just don't look.

The dressing room couldn't be so small you couldn't move away from her. You aren't obliged to but don't moan you had to stare at her naked body

I just accepted long ago that if I’m at the gym I’m going to be touching and sitting on equipment touched and sat on by hundreds of potentially questionable strangers who are all at the gym specifically to do their very best to become sweaty and a bit gross; and that the changing room benches have probably had buttocks, worn underwear, sweaty socks, and dirty outdoor shoes on them.

She was rude to move your stuff (presuming you weren’t the one being rude by having spread out all your belongings on the only bench so there was no space for anyone else) but I’m pretty meh about naked women’s bodies in the changing room. We’ve all got one.

It's a long time ago since I was a gym member but at one point a long time ago I used to be a member of a gym in a local hotel. And women prancing around naked in the changing room was common. It didnt bother me until they sat down with their bare bums on the benches and that totally disgusted me.

I always thought it was interesting but the general trend there was the much younger women,who I would have expected to be less shy about their bodies, were the ones who made great effort not to expose too much flesh whereas the older women didn't mind walking around naked. It's possibly different now but that's certainly my experience at that particular gym.

Although the younger women probably have less to be self-conscious about, on the whole, they're also unlikely to have been through as many smear tests, breast exams/scans, prenatal checks, potentially childbirth and all the associated joys of total strangers poking around in your nethers (plus breastfeeding) that push you slowly towards a point of 'if you don't like it, don't look'...

That said, the assortment of grim behaviours people display in gyms never ceases to amaze me. Makes you wish you could sluice some of the disgusting little weasels down with dettol on their way in.

I would expect a gym to be somewhere I might encounter other people’s bodies, sweat, naked skin etc so that wouldn’t bother me. It was rude of her to move your stuff.

What a weird thread. Only the slim ladies should be exposing their naked body and the older / larger ladies should scurry around under a towel? Sounds like a David Lloyd. I would suggest it’s the older ladies who can probably afford it. I’d be pissed off if someone moved my stuff ( assuming I hadn’t spread it all over the bench ) but I wouldn’t care about the nudity.

I think other posters are missing the point. I don't give a shit about nudity or bodies. As a PP said, we've all got one. Doesn't bother me at all. What I objected to was her plonking her bare arse down on a padded seating area where many people sit or put their bags and clothing down. It's just unhygienic and unnecessary to do that in a public place, sit on a towel FFS. And I only mentioned her size because as a result of it her arse covered most of the bench. I wouldn't have cared had she been standing up or sitting on a towel - not everyone can stand to get dressed which is understandable but basic hygiene and consideration of others should be a given.

I've seen this thread so often I'm beginning to think it's the same large, naked woman touring the country.

Have you never sat down in your gym's sauna or steam room and felt the rather horrific sliminess of the previous person's sweat? That is pretty unavoidable and about 17 million times worse than sitting down where a dry bottom has been.

And surely all seating in a changing room is for sitting on while getting changed? You seem to be presenting this seating as being for something else - because it is padded?

And as for sitting down naked, I don't get the problem. My bottom is certainly way cleaner than the bottom of all the bags you say are being placed on the seating. Is it specifically the idea of vaginal dampness that concerns you? The genital area doesn't make actual contact with the seat and in any case you would have to have a pretty low opinion of someone's personal hygiene to imagine that they would allow anything untoward to leak out.

I agree with you. Expensive health clubs seems to bring out weird entitled types. Last week I was drying ny hair at the mirror at one and a woman stood directly behind me, stripped off completely naked and started slapping, and I mean really slapping, body cream on her massive, rock like fake boob's whilst standing directly behind me, using the same mirror. Because I am short it meant that I was looking at a huge pair of tits resting directly on top of my head in the mirror being pummmelled and knocking together like a cats cradle, reverberating off each other because they she had very solid implants. I had to leave because I couldn't stop laughing, I mean I literally burst out laughing because it looked so funny.

She gave me dirty looks as I gathered up my stuff, still laughing uncontrollably. But I mean, honestly, who would do that? She could have moved a few feet to the left and used the empty mirror next to me but then she would have lost her hog space on the bench with all her kit on. Not as gross as yours but very funny. Ive not seen anyone sit down naked without a towel at mine in fairness but sure some do (gross).

I have seen someone do this in the gym too. I think it’s revolting- just sit on a towel FFS. 🤢 (Or put pants on and then sit down to finish getting dressed). I don’t mind communal changing rooms and I’m not offended by naked women’s bodies. Nor do I care if other women see me naked, but I do try to get dressed fairly quickly and would certainly avoid bending over. No one needs to see that 😂

I just assume that the benches in the changing rooms have had naked arses on them. Many arses. I don’t put my things on the benches. I keep everything in the locker.

@MyThreeWords I don’t think it’s a ‘low opinion of someone’s personal hygiene’ to know that women’s genitals tend to secrete discharge and that we generally can’t predict or control it. 🥴 It’s not unhygienic to have vaginal discharge but it’s not polite to leave it on surfaces others might need to touch.

I hate the flossers more, never in my life have I flossed myself the the towel and I’m convinced some people just do it to wind others up

Why would someone sit down to put on their kit, presuming this is someone who needed to change knickers before exercise (WHY??) but you don't sit down to put on underwear, or if they were putting on padded shorts (spinning?, no knix with those sometimes) then why not put the shorts on right away, how would you put them on while sitting down. Or if they needed to don swimsuit: you can't put that on your bottom while sitting, either.

Did this lady want everyone to know that she goes commando to yoga class, maybe?
