Or don't do to make them enjoyable.

Need inspiration!

I wake up early, so I usually get up and some school work (teacher) done on Saturday and Sunday mornings to get it out of the way so I can have the rest of the days free. I don't generally do anything exciting at the weekends. A nice walk, maybe stopping for coffee at a local café. Dh will cook a lovely dinner. Maybe a couple of board games. We're not quite empty-nesters, but dd is at uni and 6th form ds is pretty independent.

BrendaSmall · 24/01/2026 19:12

Get up at 5, make a couple pans of soup and make cakes and then take them to my elderly dad

Lollalawtern · 24/01/2026 19:16

My dcs do dance classes (dc1 in the morning and dc2 in the afternoon). In between we have lunch together as a family, and do a mix of activities afterwards - museum, playground, family swim, soft play. Outside of the dance terms we do day trips (theme parks, safari park, places that need a full day to explore as we don't have the chance to go during term).
I like that we spend the time together as a family and we don't split off into separate groups or leave the dcs with one parent so the other goes off on their own, it's good for family bonding.

Strokethefurrywall · 24/01/2026 19:39

I love Sundays - unhurried gym sessions, leisurely runs, I cook, might do a face mask, fold laundry whilst watching TV.

RawBloomers · 24/01/2026 19:45

A hobby (sewing). Day trips with kids. Drive kids to activities. DnD. Potter about. MN. Cook fancy meals. Brunch and a crossword.

I’d love about half the week to be Sundays!

Foggytree · 24/01/2026 19:50

Varies - go for walks, visit places , visit family.

Tomorrow- planning cinema trip.

Go to the cinema there's some good films on at the moment.

FoxRedPuppy · 24/01/2026 19:53

A lie in! I love having to get up to an alarm. A lazy coffee in bed. A big dog walk, sometimes with teens, often without.

Then just pottering around, quite often a few hours reading and drinking tea.

I love Sundays.

Konstantine8364 · 24/01/2026 19:56

I go and see my horse and ride first thing, then tomorrow I'm going to a gym class, then the equestrian shop. I'll chill in the afternoon, pop back to the stables then a date in the evening. Sometimes I'll go to the sauna, a hike if the weather is good. Meet a friend for lunch. Go to the food market. Just pick something you like and do it 🤣

PhantomG · 24/01/2026 20:38

My perfect Sunday is a long gym session, late brunch, afternoon drinks with friends.

We actually manage this quite often (and always end up having far more drinks than we plan to!)

JaneBirkinstock · 24/01/2026 09:35

I could enjoy the snowdrops

Ooh - think I'll go snowdrop searching! Lovely 🙂

Anyone recommend a board game for two players?

Azul or Targei

PermanentTemporary · 24/01/2026 20:44

Oops, Targi

mamajong · 24/01/2026 22:14

I split my weekend days into 'thirds' and commit 1 third to chores, 1 third to enjoyable stuff and 1 third to family. I try to make the chores tolerable by tine blocking/setting timers, listening to music or calling a friend

So for example tomorrow:

Am - food shopping, batch cooking, basic clean (10 mins per room), pm - DS football & visiting my mum, eve - meeting a friend, lego & a soak in the bath with face pack

TheMrsCampbellBlack · 24/01/2026 22:17

I've been trying to focus on self care at the weekends as working days are so busy and my job is really stressful so I do aqua aerobics both days at 7 am then a cold swim outside in the sun and a nice coffee for an hour. Honestly it's been transformative in terms of how healthy and relaxed I feel since I started. I am 52 and an empty nester so understand this isn't for everyone 😉

Ireolu · 24/01/2026 22:17

Food market various (alexandra Palace/lower stables market etc) chill, video games, wash daughters hair, practice spellings. I don't work Mondays though so that may be why Sundays are enjoyable for me.

HarvestMouseandGoldenCups · 24/01/2026 22:27

I wake up, make coffee, sit outside with DH (yes, even in January) to wake up.

We usually go for a long country walk (well 2-3 hours ambling) or might join a tour of our local royal park (they do different themes) and we like taking a picnic and tea.

Back home and we do some chores before heading to the local pub quiz. Alternative is I go for a massage, to a yoga class or I do some baking.

I make a quick roast dinner for evening meal.

Then I have a long bath and we head to bed to read our books and listen to Classic FM.

I know lots of people will find that boring but I absolutely revel in it every time. My best friend is the same as me and she visits every 3 months to stay over and join us on our walk/picnic/quiz Sunday.

Grapewrath · 24/01/2026 22:28

Gym first thing then usually a dog walk. Potter at home and get sorted for the week. Bath and read
sometimes I go for coffee/lunch with a friend
in the summer we go to the beach usually
I love Sunday it’s my only day off

PurpleCyclamen · 24/01/2026 22:29

Jigsaws, walks and church in the evening- very uplifting.

Maryberrysbouffant · 24/01/2026 23:36

Go for a circular walk that starts and ends at a lovely pub, have a roast after. Come home, have a hot bath. Get in clean PJ’s, relax for rest of day.

Mickey540 · 25/01/2026 09:36

@JaneBirkinstock thats the thing isn’t it we all do different things on a Sunday depending on age of children . For example ours are 16. They are independent but need running around all the time. One is referee for football so my husband spends half the day Sunday taking him. I go to the gym and do all the housework and never seem to have much down time !

MomsGotInk · 25/01/2026 09:42

Bundleflower · 24/01/2026 11:54

Nip to a farm shop for supplies. Big walk to the pub en mass with the dogs. Cook a lovely roast dinner with some music playing and a nice bottle of wine. Early bath, PJs on and find something good on TV for the evening.

That sounds fab, can me & my dog please join you? 😆🖤

DottyLottieLou · 25/01/2026 10:47

Read in bed, bath, walk , tv. Although today I'm off to the cinema. No housework.

Ophy83 · 25/01/2026 10:52

Sunday is my favourite day. This month we have done:

Bimbling round antique shops followed by lunch at a lovely Italian restaurant

Lunch at my parents followed by popping round a birthday present to a friend staying for a cuppa and a chat

Family lunch with a game of traitors

Today we've had a lazy morning, about to head to the beach for a walk and a pot of mussels.

Sunday evening is cosy TV usually with a glass of red and cheese on toast if anyone is hungry.

jamandcustard · 25/01/2026 10:54

Sundays are my favourite day of the week.

A lie-in. No alarm. Up to sort the animals and let the dog out. Then a hot shower, coffee, do my hair, another coffee and a late breakfast (either at home or out with a friend) and then a super chilled day doing whatever I fancy.

DH walks the dog on a Sunday as I do it during the week, so I don't need to go anywhere if I don't want. It's so relaxing.

LookingThroughGlass · 25/01/2026 10:55

Saturday is our 'active' day when DH and I have a day trip somewhere for a change of scene, so Sunday is our lazy day - no alarms, tend to lie in till 9 or 9:30 and spend the morning reading, chatting, on the internet. Then go to the supermarket to buy Sunday dinner and sometimes have a bit of a wander not too far afield, garden centre, antique shop, retail park, that kind of thing. Then Sunday dinner in the evening and watch a film afterwards before bed.

Sometimes we 'swap' Saturday and Sunday if there's something particular happening further afield on a Sunday that we want to do, but that's the normal routine.

BitOutOfPractice · 25/01/2026 10:56

I go to the gym with no time constraints. I often have a blow dry. I relax - read, knit, watch a film. Love Sunday.
