Or don't do to make them enjoyable.

Need inspiration!

We tend not to go far on Sundays, but like to keep busy. I might:

Go for a swim
Go to church where my daughter sings in the choir
Oversee/help DC with homework/ D of E/ music practice
Take teens to the gym
Long dog walk with DH
Play Padel with friends
Do house jobs, laundry, gardening (DS loves growing veg)
Do boring admin jobs, a bit of holiday planning and ticket booking
Go out for Sunday lunch, sometimes with friends.
Meet a friend for a walk
Get my work prepped for the week
Go to the beach/river/kayaking
Have friends over for board games/ bbq
Start ab epic Lego, model railway, Lego etc project with DC
Cook a Sunday roast (not compulsory) or cake

It’s a pretty laid back day- nice not to have too much structure.

BubblesandTiara · 24/01/2026 16:25

My weekend rule has ALWAYS been: no chore at the weekend. Life's too short. Some busy weeks, not much cleaning happened in the house but no one was home anyway 😂

I can't imagine anything more depressing than looking at the clock ticking all weekend doing boring stuff instead of spending it with friends or family, or at leat doing something you enjoy

Pepsi4Eva · 24/01/2026 16:13

FWIW- when i was working in a bloody awful job I could not stand Sundays. I started to get depressed and anxious and the knot in my stomach around about noon.

So, DH started taking me out for dinner Sunday night. Nothing fancy or too expensive- the local pub, the local cheapo Italian etc. But he'd organise it and it gave me something to look forward to.

I sympathise so much.... being worried about work on a Monday morning is just ever so grim. Thanks

That's such a lovely thing to do!

Purplecatshopaholic · 24/01/2026 16:32

Love a Sunday. Do as little as possible. Pottering, reading, just generally relaxing. Fab.

GrethaGreen · 24/01/2026 16:44

Breakfast reading the Sunday papers with a choc croissant and coffee, then either a long seaside or forest walk with lunch in a country pub or trip to London to see an exhibition or walk the canals around Camden.
Evening is long soak in the bath and a bit of tv. If it’s raining we might go to the cinema.
We don’t have young children anymore, but when they were young we always did a Sunday family outing come rain or shine.

LegoLandslide · 24/01/2026 16:47

I have very energetic small children. We go to church and DH insists on a Sunday lunch. By the time thats done it's 3pm. We are 20 minutes drive from anywhere and everything shuts at 4.

In the summer it's fine, we can go to the park or for a walk or out in the garden, but the endless winter evenings really drag.

piscofrisco · 24/01/2026 17:59

Go for a long walk. Meal prep for the week. Have a big glass of wine, usually a roast and watch Countryfile .

vdbfamily · 24/01/2026 18:21

We go to choir practice before church and then have church. Coffee and chat afterwards and then home for a Sunday roast, often with friends coming. If not entertaining for lunch, we go for a nice walk and/ or visit friends and family.

HelenHywater · 24/01/2026 18:23

I have a clean house from Saturday. And no chores on a Sunday.

I can lie in. Do whatever I want.

I love Sundays. (I actually like most other days too, mind).

PullTheBricksDown · 24/01/2026 18:23

Either

  • as little as possible, lazing around at home, with either nice comfort dinner or easy dinner
Or
  • meet up for a meal out with friends, go home full, tired and happy
laloue · 24/01/2026 18:26

We have a daft list on the fridge door - it’s all the places that when we drive past (on our way elsewhere) we say to each other “we should go there”…we get up , have a coffee and pick one to head to depending on weather / distance etc. Home for a snooze then a cookathon of lunches , dinners and a roast. Wine, natter and bed. Cross it off the list. Perfect 😊

user1471538283 · 24/01/2026 18:27

I love Sundays!

I try to get as much done as I can on Saturdays and then change my bed linen, exercise in the morning and then lunch out. Even if I can't have lunch out I'll make something really nice. I then get all situated for a film or series.

I sometimes travel to another town to meet up with friends and lunch out.

Makemineacosmo · 24/01/2026 18:27

I love a potter. My DCs are adults now (one away at uni and the other does his own thing). Might have a wee rearrange of our bedroom tomorrow. Nice meal. Lots of cups of tea. Walks with the dog. Lovely.

Thanks for replies. I used to love Sundays when DD was little. Empty nesters now and I spend Sunday stressing about work on Monday. What a waste!

Almost empty nesters here.

Costal walk with lunch

Spa day

Cook a roast, have eldest DC over and then go to the cinema.

Go for a more local walk and then go to the cinema.

Go away for the night to a new area and go for a couple of walks/mooch about and have dinner at the hotel.

TheChosenTwo · 24/01/2026 18:36

Oh god Sundays are my favourite day.
It’s 50% of my time off work and I’m not prepared to waste it feeling glum (helped hugely because I like my job).
Usually start my day with a lovely lake swim, home to shower and warm up! Might see if anyone else fancies going out for brunch and if not will make something at home. Then if the weather is favourable we will go for a walk and pub stop for refreshments - either just us or with extended family depending on who’s about, or we head to the coast in the winter for a walk along the seafront. If the weather is shit ds and I may go to the gym (he’s a great gym buddy, very encouraging!). Dh usually cooks us all a Sunday roast in the evening and I’ll light a fire and relax late afternoon evening while he cooks. Ds might join me and we often play a game, he’s 14 and really good fun to hang out with. We have 2 older dc, one is at uni so mostly not here and the other is home from uni and equally up for joining in with us and also playing games etc.
Just wholesome relaxing fun.

BurntBroccoli · 24/01/2026 18:41

I don’t work on a Monday so Sundays are lovely!

devildeepbluesea · 24/01/2026 18:42

Usually it’s a run (two birds one stone, DDog comes too).

Often it’s the food shop, but I did that today. Tomorrow is one of those Sundays that you look forward to for ages:

  • Run
  • Bit of retail therapy
  • late lunch at Giggling Squid (pre-Christmas giftcard offer, £50 credit for £25)
  • Home for a film

Cannot wait!!

Usually it’s run, shop, meal prep, dog walk, TV.

Cornishclio · 24/01/2026 18:42

I walk with my local Ramblers group.

Moveyourbleedingarse · 24/01/2026 18:46

Following. I really dislike Sundays. I walk the dogs, laundry, more laundry, dishwasher, bed sheets, mop floors, cook food for the week ahead if needed, iron work clothes, do nails just jobs jobs jobs all day.
I still have the 'need to do my maths homework' vibe the moment I wake up.

Do your jobs in the week and keep your Sundays free. I don't do anything on a Sunday except for dishes and feeding the animals.

HollyhockDays · 24/01/2026 18:48

Go for a walk with DH. Coffee, croissants and the papers. In the summer potter in the garden. Washing. I don’t dread Monday.

Thanks for replies. I used to love Sundays when DD was little. Empty nesters now and I spend Sunday stressing about work on Monday. What a waste!

Ooh this is interesting as I have young DC and I fantasise about what I will do on my weekends when I’m an empty nester. I love my kids to bits but I find weekends built around primary age children utterly mind numbing (although now the older one is 8 playing games with the etc is more fun).

Here’s what I’d do with my Sundays if I could:
Wake up late, bring a coffee back to bed and read books/the newspapers
Bruch with DH or friends
Trawling charity shops or second hand bookshops
Long walk followed by pub Sunday lunch with wine
Go to the cinema for an afternoon showing
Go to an exhibition in town (I live in London)
Go on a day trip to a national trust place, new town or seaside
Go to a gig or other event eg a talk
Do an exercise class I like or go swimming
Binge watch a show I want to see
Do some batch cooking or baking while listening to radio 4 or my fave podcasts

Try to remember that Sundays when you had young DC - as well as being lovely - also involved dropping off at various activities and washing endless uniform and sweating on the side of a swimming pool watching swimming lessons (the worst!) I bet you don’t miss any of that.

There is a lot to love about your freedom! X

Chinsupmeloves · 24/01/2026 19:00

I don't work Mondays now so feel less rush getting prepared for the week ahead. Usually quite a leisurely day, sort school stuff, work stuff, visit parents, walk the dog. Xx

notacooldad · 24/01/2026 19:06

We go to the Lakes or Scotland once a month for the weekend. Either book a hotel or stay in a camper van.

When not away dh sometimes will work at his unit. I will cycle to meet him there which is about 18 miles each way.
If he us doing things with our lads( tinkering with vehicles at his unit) I'll go out with my friends and my three dogs and head to the lakes or we will go bouldering. There is always something to do.
Me and my friends ds may go to one of the 4 cities thats within an hour of us for the day which is always good fun.
