Is my sister BU to say these photos show little pieces of metal in her food? (Photos attached) (Update with extra photos on page 5)

My older sister has recently begun reading info on bad things in food like microplastics, EDCs, UPFs etc. Now, I agree with her these things are worrying.

She sent me these photos yesterday evening, saying she thinks they show 'little pieces of metal' in her food, and is now worried about how to avoid metal..

I just see bubbles and the light shining. Is she BU?

Maybe I'm wrong. ... Or not...

She says it looks different from bubbles & light. Really?

I think some info on health food on SM can slide into 'government is putting metal in food' conspiracies, personally, and this is why she is worried. I mean, if it is metal large enough to see, why doesn't it taste hard or crunchy?

Or maybe it is weird?

You're not wrong.

But bizarrely I can see a scream mask in the bean dish?! 😱

Ha, pareidolia can be scary 🤣 If you look too hard at bubbles you can see all sorts of things.

She claims she's never seen stuff like this in food 'until last year' Really? She's eaten food like this for years & never noticed it before.

We are both Gen Z. Is this some offshoot of MAHA type material maybe?

I wish I could convince her the food is normal, but she seems convinced the bubbles etc are sinister.

She has valid points (particularly about mocroplastics in the food chain) but I think she's in danger of getting paranoid about it. There's nothing evident in those photos imho

That's it. There ARE real issues with food but I don't think tiny pieces of metal (which are still visible to the eye) are one of them...

She says she knows there are bubbles in the bean photo but she still sees metal inside! 🤦‍♀️

Do the vegetables & potato look like they have 'metal' in them?

OP posts:

No metal, although the second one, which looks revolting, does have the man in the moon's face!

Which one? The potato?

Hang on, was the second one potato??? Oh dear. She has bigger problems than metal.

Shes right re micro plastics being an issue, but what has she done to potatoes to achieve that?

Sgtmajormummy · 22/01/2026 23:36

Unless those little pieces of metal are… a spoon!

I cam only assume so given one is beans amd the other is clearly veg. But it looks like beige sludge.

Can't see anything in the veg.
Is that potato?! So smooth, I thought it was ice cream, then porridge 😂 But I can't see anything in there. I think I can see what she thinks are bits of metal, but I I doubt if they are.
Has she got dodgy pans?

murasaki · 22/01/2026 23:38

It might help if she removed the cutlery. Light on the veg is clearly the paper showing through. And on the others if anything, it's the spoon, as said by pp.

Hang on, now she says that picture is 'tinned organic potato & leek soup'. From a new tin. It doesn't look very good to me.

Not convinced about the 'little bits of metal' in the photo though.

Ah, soup makes more sense. Otherwise that was some BAD potato. Still no metal to me, just a man in the moon face, which must have been a random result of stirring.

Is she normally this paranoid?

Paper showing through? For the veg, I think it's mainly light shining on it. It doesn't seem to be metal...

It looked to me like the veg was sat on paper. Maybe it's a white oblong plate. Either way, the only white I see is what's underneath the veg.

Endofyear · 22/01/2026 23:44

I'd be worried about her mental health to be honest, if she thinks she can see bits of metal in that food! Although, if she's worried about UPF and microplastics, why is she eating a tin of soup? Leek & potato soup is very easy to cook from scratch!

Yes,it's on a plate.

She claims the photos 'don't show enough detail' and she will send a video tomorrow...hmm..

That's soup ?!!!

You sure it's the right photo, looks like porridge to me or something similar.

Anyway, no metal.

She wants to save time I think...I don't think these tins are good quality to cook from though.

My homemade leek and potato soup is pale green. I would never have guessed that photo as that soup in a million years. Or indeed soup. I had no idea what it was.

There's no metal in her food, I'd be a bit worried about her if I were you.

To be clear, sorry: the soup was photographed before it was heated up.

No visible metal in any of those, but what is troubling in that three entirely different meals she thinks she can see some. She is the common denominator here...

This is a good point, if she's that paranoid, then homemade is better.

I'd agree.

She's seeing things which aren't there.
