If you could add a zero?

Shamelessly posting here for traffic - interesting hypothetical question came up at a work event last night:
"If you could add a zero to any number in your life, what would it be?"
I eventually settled on my salary but answers ranged from 'number of languages I can speak' to 'number of years I'll be alive' and 'number of weeks annual leave I get'
So.... where would your 'zero' go?

Days annual leave then id be paid not to work!!

TheHungryHungryLandsharks · 22/01/2026 18:45

Number of dogs I have.

I'd go from five to fifty and there wouldn't be a happier woman in Britain.😀

TheeNotoriousPIG · 22/01/2026 18:51

My salary, and then I could pay for people to come and do all of the DIY projects that I do not have time for, courtesy of having to work full-time for a living, and not having the motivation to do it after very long days in work! I would also have an excellent standard of living off such an amount of money!

InterestedDad37 · 22/01/2026 18:53

On the end of my savings 😀

FudgeFridays · 22/01/2026 18:53

No question, my salary!

LaurieFairyCake · 22/01/2026 18:53

To my house value. Then I could sell it and stop work 😬

devildeepbluesea · 22/01/2026 18:55

Salary. That would make me so happy. They say money can’t buy happiness, but if the only thing preventing happiness is money worry then it definitely can.

senua · 22/01/2026 18:56

Are there rules about where the zero can go? Can I change my 99 problems to 0.99 Grin

On the end of my savings 😀

I was going to say that. But then I thought, what do I want with fourty quid down the back of my sofa? So I'd go for years left to live. With another 150 years of work to go I might be able to put a bit aside for a rainy day.

Melarus · 22/01/2026 18:56

The square footage of my garden!

DilemmaDelilah · 22/01/2026 18:57

My pension. It's not very much!

I certainly don't want to add it to the number of years I will be alive - I'm decrepit enough as it is - imagine what I would be like in 50 or 100 years!

Chasingsquirrels · 22/01/2026 19:07

Definitely my savings (edit) Net Assets.

TomatoSandwiches · 22/01/2026 19:13

To the square meter space of my house and garden.

taxguru · 22/01/2026 19:14

Definitely my savings. An extra zero would make a massive difference and enable us to do what we want/need to do in our latter years.

NormasArse · 22/01/2026 19:15

My savings. Then I would be able to do what I’ve always wanted to do.

DoItTwoDay · 22/01/2026 19:19

Absolutely my salary. Two years of my new x 10 salary would give me more than x 10 my savings now.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 22/01/2026 19:19

Oh this is so interesting!

My first thought was salary but many of the other answers are tempting.

Not years to live - I’m 47 so minimum would then be 470, which I don’t want - but days of annual leave sounds good.

Value of my house sounds excellent too but I think a 0 on salary would quickly become a better deal.

NetballHoop · 22/01/2026 19:20

To the years my dog will live.

Sorry I really don't agree. I used to think having money was everything and would make everything easier and nicer, but I have since inherited from my parents and another relative, and I would rather have them back than the money. In addition, health issues mean I can't even spend the money doing nice things such as great holidays. Health is the most important thing of all, believe me.

To my house value. Then I could sell it and stop work 😬

Likewise, I could do so much with that much money, almost buy all my many children a house!

Jc2001 · 22/01/2026 19:29

It's a great question.

Adding to salary would mean that you'd lose half of in tax straight away.

Adding it the value of your house sound good. Could could sell and live off that profit.

TokyoSushi · 22/01/2026 19:32

If it wasn’t my salary, then cats! 😄

VerityUnreasonble · 22/01/2026 19:35

Ooh this is interesting, I could go salary and then retire early / have a much higher quality of life or weeks of annual leave and I'd have a reasonable income and lots of time to do the things I enjoy.

But if I had 10x my salary I could go part time or buy weeks of annual leave...

I'll probably take the money (open the box!!)

Coka · 22/01/2026 19:39

Number of houses i own. Then i could sell or rent them out

Princesspollyyy · 22/01/2026 19:40

Surely the only answer is the salary??!
