AIBU to think this is a bit nuts? Trans woman is being praised online for still working at 37 weeks into her "simulated" pregnancy

I have just read on Facebook about this transgender woman, Gabrielle Darone, aged 32, who simulated a pregnancy last year in order to address "gender dysphoria about not being able to carry a child". She wore a fake belly and simulated morning sickness, breathing difficulties, tiredness and other symptoms. She blogged about her experience and received a lot of praise online for still continuing to work at 37 weeks into her "pregnancy".

AIBU to think this is just crazy? Wearing a fake belly and pretending to have pregnancy symptoms is absolutely NOTHING like the real difficulties that women who are actually pregnant have to go through. Sometimes I think I am on a different planet.

She needs to see a psychiatrist.

The people praising her are virtue signalling and enabling her by pretending to believe this is a pregnancy.

How far can she carry this on? Will she give birth to a doll?

Please don’t collude with this misogynistic tale as old as time - man getting kicks. It’s a he. Never was a she/her. And never will be. Let’s use language that reflects reality.

I know a few trans people. They all think Darone is insane and don't actually agree that s/he is even trans.

It's Facebook rage bait, is all.

What makes someone Trans then?
If we have to accept some men are, just by saying it, then why not all, and how do we pick and choose between them?

Owly11 · 21/01/2026 13:35

There is a condition known as 'folie a deux' which is where one person is psychotic (lost touch with reality) and another person goes along with it and this feeds the delusion/psychosis so that it takes on a life of its own. It frequently ends in death because it can't survive the inevitable (at some point) contact with reality. This sounds like a mass version of this - a kind of mass psychosis where hundreds of people join in the delusion to prop it up. It is just an inevitable next step from the whole trans delusion. The problem with psychosis is that if you bring it into contact with reality too soon or too quickly you are likely to be the recipient of violence.

Of course he's trans.

There's plenty of him on social media. He curls, he is a little league umpire, he calls himself a 'single mom'. He isn't reticent, and he is feted in everything he does.

Don’t the trans people you know realise that if someone says they’re trans, then they’re trans?

🙄🙄🙄

He is “ trans”

Agree - For someone who is not trans, he's written a very convincing blog, including hatchet job on his wife once she no longer goes along with his madness, that breaks her privacy.

There's also an animation about his transition to "mom" in the NYT that can also be found on YouTube.

Really insulting to women. This has to end.

Noshowlomo · 21/01/2026 13:41

Please stop saying her and she. This is a fucked up, narcissist man with mental health issues aplenty.
I say this as a mother of a stillborn daughter. This has given me the fecking rage

RedAndGreenShouldAlwaysBeSeen · 21/01/2026 13:44

Appropriating arsehole.

Pregnancy is often the beginning of employment discrimination for women. And that's the fucking least of it.

Helleofabore · 21/01/2026 13:44

"Breastfeeding and maternity groups worldwide are admitting men with this fetish into their groups."

Let's not forget that in Australia, a breastfeeding consultant Jasmine Sussex is due to go through court for misgendering a male person who gave an interview to the media about feeding the secretions from his male breast to his infant daughter.

She has been terminated from her role meaning that there are less resources for women breastfeeding in Australia due to this reaction from the Australian Breastfeeding Association (ABA).

All because a male person was determined to be validated in having a philosophical belief that does not have any foundation in material reality - that a male person can be a female person.

That’s fucking mental and an insult to actual pregnant women.
Im not a transphobe, my DD is non-binary (I think it’s BS and v against any surgery but day-to-day I’m not fussed on it).
My hill to die on is a penis in women’s spaces.

But all the accounts are on social media pages (including Reddit) claiming it happened but no trustworthy sources with links to a news article on the story.

You’re not expecting it to be on the BBC are you? They tend to shy away from any negative trans coverage. They couldn’t even bring themselves to mention that the male patient who racially abused (using the n word) nurse Jennifer Melle (who was then discoloured and suspended for referring to him as Mr when discussing his medical needs with a DR) was a violent paedophile even though it was very relevant to the story

He was making posts on a Facebook page - what kind of news coverage are you expecting?

Welsh paedophile trans identifying male ‘Claire Fox’ has plenty of news coverage (I don’t think it’s on the BBC though) if you want to get a flavour of this sort of issue. The trans identifying males doing similar things in breastfeeding groups and getting women sacked etc have quite a bit of news coverage. All similar stories with similar outcomes - men using intimate female experiences to get their jollies and women who object banned and abused for their objection.

Lulubo1 · 21/01/2026 13:53

I find it highly highly offensive that he did this. I'm currently at maternity triage (I'm 37 weeks tomorrow) to be checked over to rule out pre-eclampsia. Did he simulate the stress a woman goes through during pregnancy, or the anxiety or even antenatal depression? It's not a simple as pretending all the physical side of things. Men can't get pregnant. If I get banned for saying this or flamed, I don't care.

Very insulting to real women who really carry babies.

Mental illness being held up and praised. Stupidity, vanity and pathetic pandering to these men.

I don't know, the whole thing reads 'troll' to me. The long written explanations seem designed to wind people up. It's not hard to set up a fake facebook account and wind people up for fun if you're bored. How often are we taken in by troll posts on here?

If it turned out to be a troll (I don’t think it is btw), doesn’t that make it even worse that some people are cheering him on and enabling him? He had a lot of supporters at the time - they weren’t made up.

And then we have the strikingly similar situations that have happened many times where more women have been abused and silenced and these disordered men are prioritised?

Totally agree. Men cannot carry babies. Its very offensive him role playing what he thinks a pregnant woman goes through. What a twat he is.

I hope your pregnancy goes as smoothly as possible and best wishes with the birth and new baby.

Who are the people who keep praising and lauding the fetishes of men. They are short on something, brain cells maybe.
