AIBU to think this is a bit nuts? Trans woman is being praised online for still working at 37 weeks into her "simulated" pregnancy

I have just read on Facebook about this transgender woman, Gabrielle Darone, aged 32, who simulated a pregnancy last year in order to address "gender dysphoria about not being able to carry a child". She wore a fake belly and simulated morning sickness, breathing difficulties, tiredness and other symptoms. She blogged about her experience and received a lot of praise online for still continuing to work at 37 weeks into her "pregnancy".

AIBU to think this is just crazy? Wearing a fake belly and pretending to have pregnancy symptoms is absolutely NOTHING like the real difficulties that women who are actually pregnant have to go through. Sometimes I think I am on a different planet.

Why is a man being "praised" for enacting his fetish in public? Are people insane? Where is the praise for flashers, frottagers and public masturbaters I wonder?

It's quite illuminating when we listen to trans people, isn't it.

No need to be nasty. I've obviously had my eyes opened that this sort of thing goes on when I hadn't really heard of it before.

Not sure why some PP's are going down the "haha I told you so" route. It doesn't make you guys look good. I've accepted that my previous views were not informed by the full facts, and now I have the full facts and have changed my mind accordingly. Why does that justify posters being nasty to me?

I didn't read it as being nasty. This thread has been quite a journey for many of us.

There's a thing where trans people and allies of trans people say that if we only listened to them and were more educated on the matter, we would understand.

The thing is when we do listen or look beneath the surface, sooner or later we come across something like this that makes us go... Hang on a minute! Listening and being educated has exactly the opposite effect as we see where the whole house of cards falls down.

I think this is the point that poster was making about it being illuminating when we listen to trans people.

Do you still call the man that is the subject of this thread 'she'?

I don’t believe that Nebulous was being nasty. I believe they were sharing your shock. And that we only really understand part of the issue unless we directly read or listen to the people who are doing this. Otherwise, most people are totally unaware that this is an issue and as can be seen from some posters, they wish to dismiss it as being part of a significant issue as well. I don’t believe the post was aimed at you.

@ParmaVioletTea please accept my apologies for the virtue scolding! I’d not come across you before, didn’t realise the sarcasm in your post!

Not a problem, @SquashedSquashess It's taught me that bad jokes & non-glittering wit don't really work on the page ... Grin

It was a really good scolding WinkWe're all in these trenches together!

I genuinely wasn't being nasty @CalmGreenEagle and I'm sorry you took it that way. I was merely saying that we learn a lot when we actually listen to what they say. Supporting or criticising them without paying much attention is folly. It applies to everybody, all of us.

Maybe the best ay to deal with this is ignore it?
Just saying, let this person do them, they’re not affecting you.

Problem is, that these mentally unwell men's feelings have somehow got a deep hold on legislators and public organisations (eg. the NHS), so much so that women who call them out risk severe penalties.

So their illness does affect women, as TRAs are trying to change the very definition of what it is to be a woman, to be female.

ArabellaScott · 22/01/2026 13:21

Yes. Exhibit A - the NHS supporting men who wish to pretend to 'breastfeed', and the BBC in turn supporting them.

No one should be indulging in this nonsense

I don't read these posts as "nasty" - more expressing fellow feeling in disgust and incredulity at the entitlement of some men.

And the comment on "listening to transpeople' is in response to years of being told that women/feminists don't listen enough to transpeople, and that we should "educate ourselves."

Well, as you've found out (hurrah!) once you start listening to transpeople, and educating yourself about transactivism, your realise how ill or misogynist TRAs are.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 22/01/2026 13:24

Absolutely, @ArabellaScott. If any other man stated publicly that he wanted a baby to suckle his nipples, he would be lambasted and labelled as a paedophile - but because these deviants have the magical lady-feels, they are lauded as stunning and brave. It sickens me.

I read a sarcastic tone in your post but I must have been mistaken.

My post wasn't just aimed at you though. I note a lot of PP's criticising me for originally calling him "she" in my first post which was simply out of habit when talking about trans women, and even now people are like "ARE YOU STILL REFERRING TO HIM AS SHE?" seriously folks, get a life.

Because he’s a man, regardless of identity or ridiculous harmful fetish preferences, and language is important. Calling the above ‘she’ shows you indulgence this nonsense and I would argue it’s those people that should be the ones to ‘get a life’.

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 22/01/2026 13:34

In fact, I’d go further and say anyone who read about this monstrosity, decides to start a MN thread about it and STILL calls him she, needs to get in the bin.

So no-one is ever allowed to change their mind in light of new information? I've already started calling him he. Does that satisfy the pronouns police?

Its brave and honest to assess and change your mind when new evidence is presented, OP.

What new information, other than all the info you posted in your original thread, compelled you to think ‘oh, I’m going to call him ‘he’ now?
