Cases of measles in school

My DS son has seen two cases of measles. In nursery but apparently they have siblings in different year groups. Children who are immuneocomprised are being told to have three weeks off. Parents are keeping their kids off now due to various things. school is stopping mass gatherings such as assemblies. Should we worry?

Worryingly, my friends Dchild is in nursery and the parent of the child actually tried to bring their child into school this morning. Obviously the child was turned away but parents over heard and he said it didn’t matter as the rash was under clothes.

I hope the school is looking at safeguarding the child

There was a measles jab since the late 60s though so I'm not sure why being 46 means u didn't get it

There was a scare around that time (I am 48) that the vaccine was linked to Autism, I didn't get vaccinated as a result. Father was a GP. I caught measles as a child and had I not had medically trained parents would have been hospitalised. I have as an adult been vaccinated.

@ThatcannotberightRacism? In what way? All dc are offered immunization, and there isn’t discrimination. It’s free for heavens sake. All any parent has to do is keep the appointment for dc! If they are unsure about vaccinations, they can ask. No health professional will turn them away. Just carrying on saying you don’t trust vaccinations is ignorant because the evidence that they work is overwhelming. We need to get tougher because anyone can now spout any old rubbish to justify their position whilst allowing measles to return. It’s not on.

Oh I didn't know that. Thought Wakefield was the first to come up with that stuff. I know there was some scare with the whooping cough vaccine

Hi all - there's quite a few queries on here that could be answered on our new Q&A with two NHS experts.

If you’d like to ask them directly about things like schedules, side effects, eligibility or outbreak concerns, you can post your question here.
