I personally wouldn’t risk it

Arlanymor · 20/01/2026 17:12

Unless it smells of ammonia, has changed colour or is slimy then it's absolutely fine.

TheDandyLion · 20/01/2026 17:12

Im going to, as I also have an aldi camembert in the fridge that is weeks out of date. That's tomorrow's dinner.

GiantTeddyIsTired · 20/01/2026 17:13

Oh I haven't checked the date of the one I have in the fridge.

It's Camembert - it's ready to eat when it's made its own way out of the fridge surely anyway!

I'll certainly be eating mine.

Ineffable23 · 20/01/2026 17:14

I have never checked the date on a camembert. If it isn't a funny colour or has slime etc I would probably eat it. But obviously you have to decide what risks you're prepared to take!

InOverMyHead84 · 20/01/2026 17:15

Give it a go and report back.

Based on the festive Stilton I'm still consuming, you'll be fine. Especially with it being baked too.

MsMcCoo · 20/01/2026 17:15

Isn't it best before date?
Will be amazingly matured. I leave this type always to go few weeks over

evermineeverthine · 20/01/2026 17:15

Mmmm mixed responses. I've actually got two in there. A chorizo one as well which is only ten days out so I was pretty sure I'd eat that one. ( Damn you Christmas cheese excess!)

It's use by - I hardly never see best before on anything these days I don't think.

I've got two blues I'm still eating. This is one I'd never bother checking the date on , but soft cheese got me thinking of listeria etc.

No idea but watching to see how you get on because I have an Asda baking brie of a similar vintage in the fridge!

Camembert usually isn't even ripe on the use by date so if it looks and tastes fine, it will be fine.

We're ridiculously cautious about expiry dates in the UK and it leads a massive amount of unnecessary food waste.

A French person would probably never think to look at the date to decide whether or not to eat cheese and they'd have it out of the fridge for a few hours before they did too.

RumJerrySailorRum · 20/01/2026 17:23

Has it been in the fridge all this time??

My DH doesn't like cheese. He regularly clears out the fridge of out of date food.

He NEVER throws away the cheese. He knows better.
If it looks really rank or smells when youve taken off the wrapping then bin it, dish and all. Otherwise crack on!

Starbri8 · 20/01/2026 17:24

Pop it in the oven for 25 min , I did this last night and mine was two weeks past date, I put some truffle oil and dipped garlic bread in it !! Was delicious!!

evermineeverthine · 20/01/2026 17:24

It's been in the fridge the whole time yes! Unopened too

Summerhillsquare · 20/01/2026 17:25

If sealed still, and looks and smells normal when you unwrap, crack on.

ETA, an environmental health officer once told me few things survive being in the oven at 200degrees.

RottenBanana · 20/01/2026 17:27

Crack on. It will barely be ripe at a month past use by.

BoldAmberCat · 20/01/2026 17:28

I recently ate one that was 4 days past the date and it made me extremely ill

Potaytoecake · 20/01/2026 17:28

Normally I’d say yes, but the last Aldi one was a rancid pink stinking mess two days past use by date 🤢

evermineeverthine · 20/01/2026 17:28

Ok so I'm planning to bake the life out of it , get oven up to 200 degrees and then face plant it with some bread.

I’m a bit of a minger and play a bit fast and loose with stuff like this but a month… I wouldn’t

WhatNext2026 · 20/01/2026 17:30

Nuke it. Sniff it. Cautious first taste then go for it.

soupyspoon · 20/01/2026 17:31

Camembert always stink so just eat it unless its gone pink. I eat cheeses way way way past their use by date

ZebraPyjamas · 20/01/2026 17:31

I always would have but I recently made myself horribly ill eating Brie that was only a few days past its use by date so I’ll be much more cautious in the future! It was also made with raw cows milks though which made it riskier I think!
