I’m guessing WLI
I imagine they’ve massively improved their health and energy levels in so many ways
but…

he looked a little gaunt
and she looked so gaunt it was unreal. Also her hair…. Well her hair had been her crowning glory but it looked so lacklustre

It was such a shock. I really see now how these WLI are no golden bullet like sometimes the media would have us believe.

I don’t think that’s the case. I think people are genuinely worried about people’s health. Anyone over 40 losing a huge amount of weight quickly are likely to look unwell because your skin looks loose which can make you look older and unwell. I know people in here seem to think weight loss injections are amazing but is it really healthy to lose weight that quickly? Your skin obviously doesn’t think so 😬.

Your heart and other vital organs don’t appreciate carrying extra weight either. ‘People’ don’t seem to be ‘genuinely worried’ about obese people who are at far greater risk from ailments - just disgusted they’ve got that way from what I observe.

I lost half my body weight on mounjaro. My hair thinned bit its all grown back now.
I don't look gaunt, the body adjusts.
I lost two pounds a week over a year. Best thing I ever did I don't have to take any blood pressure meds now and I'm no longer pre-diabetic.

i just started yesterday for my diabetes. My A1C has been high and my will power too low. Losing weight would be nice but the blood sugars need to be lower.

Trust me, I don’t look unwell. I look like a normal women in my 40s.

Let’s cut to the chase here. On the off chance the OP is a real person and this is a real situation, then it’s clear OP thinks she’s superior to her neighbours. She probably based her perception of that superiority on the fact they were fat. In her mind, that equal ill disciplined, lazy, weak, failures.

They’ve now lost weight, so she can base it on that any longer, so she’s going for criticising their post-weight loss appearance and throwing shade at how they lost the weight.

If it wasn’t that, it’d be something else. Because some people are just arseholes.

It was like magic for my blood sugars. I was on insulin and metformin and had cut all carbs except green veg and dairy and my sugars were still above normal range consistently. Started taking Mounjaro and within 6 weeks I’d completely stopped the insulin and was down to minimum dose of metformin, 6 weeks after that the metformin went too. Went from a Hba1c of 11.7% to 5.2%

What an unpleasant OP

it’s not fast, in my experience. 1 to 2 lbs a week. How much less should I lose? I don’t know anyone else who uses WLI who is systematically losing more. Would you prefer I remain fat? Can I win or do you just want to find fault?

Pickledpoppetpickle · 20/01/2026 20:44

DeftWasp · 20/01/2026 15:52

I understand that, but what is the effect of drugs with no long term safety data?

Mounjaro has been around for years, Years. How much long term data do you need?

InfoSecInTheCity · 20/01/2026 20:54

CarminaBiryani · 20/01/2026 19:19

Is it absolutely necessary that the WLI loss is so fast? I understand in terms of morbid obesity then there's an urgency, but why otherwise? Is it because you can't be on them for too long?

Fast weigh loss causes loss of muscle mass, often you see that around the neck which is a muscle contributing to the gaunt look.

The only reason I care is it is catastrophic for later life to have less muscle mass.

I am very worried about frail 70 year olds, but as always its profit (WLI companies) first.

No and what you’ll see with most people is that they lose the recommended average of 1-2 lbs a week, the big difference is that it’s consistently 1-2lbs a week as opposed to the usual rhythm of a diet where you lose for a few weeks then have a bad week and gain a bit, then stay the same for a while, then gain for a bit, then get back on track and lose some…..

With Mounjaro it’s easier to stick to the diet and just have a run of steady small losses and eating a healthy diet without breaking and eating a load of rubbish. The temptation/craving and satisfaction of eating crisps/chocolate/cake etc is just not there as much.

I have been on it for 18 months, I eat around 1400 calories a day now it was closer to 1800 when I started and I make sure it’s a good balance of fat, fibre, protein, carbs (low on carbs due to diabetes).

There will always be outliers and some people use WLIs alongside an eating disorder mentality to eat the minimum number of calories humanly possible to lose weight as fast as possible. Most people don’t take that approach.

Um in case you hadn’t noticed the op is nonsense, no one loses half their body weight in three months, lol. Usual weight loss is 1-2lbs a week, so you can stand down with all your worry about 70 year olds 😂

Approx 2 and a half to the weight loss market and a little longer for diabetes, no where near enough for long term data to be available.

As an example it took 5 years between Thalidomide being marketed and heavily dispensed for links to ill effects to be made.

JaceLancs · 20/01/2026 21:16

Years ago I lost 7 stone - no one even noticed until I’d lost the first 3!
If they are only neighbours im guessing they were already trying to lose weight before September by whatever method
I’m back at SW and also on low dose WLI so far lost 2 stone 10 and no one has noticed - want to lose another 4.5/5 stone

Arraminta · 20/01/2026 21:17

I can assure you, they would look considerably worse lying in their coffins, dead from heart disease/Type 2 Diabetes/stroke etc.

It’s 20 years for diabetes. And the people who have diabetes are humans and rhe scientists are capable of extrapolation; it was also 15 years in trials, so we are now at rhe 35-40 year mark.

as said, when rhe WHO and all global health authorities approve and for long term use, don’t you think maybe you’re missing something.

It was patented in 2016, and first approved for human use in the treatment of diabetes in 2022 and for weight loss in 2023.

Assuming we are talking about Tirzepatide (Mounjaro) that is.

Thedownwardspiralpath · 20/01/2026 21:46

Maybe gaunt ( underweight) is the wrong word. I have 4 friends ( that I know of on or tried weight loss injections. 2 ended up in hospital seriously unwell with pancreatitis, one in ICU. Another friend is doing really well, looks fantastic, eating healthy and has given her a whole new lease on life. My other friend lost loads of weight but far too quickly, her hair fell out and even though she’s not underweight she looks unwell, I know what you mean by gaunt but it’s more saggy dull skin. It doesn’t help that she’s still eating crap, just less of it.

No judgment. I need to loss at lest 4 stone but I’m too scared to try injections.

tirzepatide (patented as Mounjaro and Zepbound) was being used in trials 2010-17 with first human trial data being published in 2018. It was approved by FDA for widespread use for diabetes in 2022 and weight management in 2023.

Tirzepatide is a GLP-1, GLP-1s have been in use much longer though, 2005 (exenatide) FdA approved for T2 diabetes, Liraglutide in 2010, Saxenda in 2014, Ozempic in 2017 and wegovy in 2021

I think you’re confused on the differing trials and brands. Glp’s started phase 1 trials in the early 1990s.

Kelly Osbourne sure looks gaunt.

It is ridiculous to say no-one looks gaunt after using WLI.

Not really. She just looks like her mother who also has a severe look.

If that’s what people mean then it’s not the WLI making people gaunt or dull… it’s malnourishment. If they’re eating a lot less food but that’s not healthy and doesn’t have enough CHO, protein, healthy fats and vitamins/minerals as well as energy then they’re malnourished because their diet is insufficient.

I’m sure they’ll prefer to be frail 70 year olds rather than people who died of obesity related illness before they reached 70.

Those who follow the advice for sufficient protein, calcium and exercise should be no worse off in old age.

She’s also had tonnes of cosmetic work done to her face and looks underweight now (prescribers shall stop prescribing when you reach BMI 23 so most people won’t go that low) - so she isn’t exactly the average MJ user.
