I’m guessing WLI
I imagine they’ve massively improved their health and energy levels in so many ways
but…

he looked a little gaunt
and she looked so gaunt it was unreal. Also her hair…. Well her hair had been her crowning glory but it looked so lacklustre

It was such a shock. I really see now how these WLI are no golden bullet like sometimes the media would have us believe.

OP posts:

Huh?

They will have likely exponentially improved their energy levels and health

How's that work then?

What's the 'AIBU' here?

"AIBU to create a thread to criticize weight loss injections under the guise of gossiping about my neighbors?"

Pickledpoppetpickle · 20/01/2026 15:14

For perspective...I had 10 stone to lose. I've lost 3 in 6 months. Someone told me yesterday that I was looking 'gaunt'. Seriously.

Junction6 · 20/01/2026 15:21

Fat - disgusting, idle, unhealthy, burden on the state, weak, ill disciplined.

Lose weight - too thin, gaunt, look old, unhealthy, lazy weight loss injection cheats.

It almost like people can’t win, or something?

14 Stone in a day

I actually said that out loud in the exact way Peter did it. Hadn't thought about it in years. Fab comment.

How's that work then?

You don’t understand the impacts of obesity and how people’s health improves when they reduce weight?

SurferRona · 20/01/2026 15:26

@ThatZippyFinch how have you not seen your neighbours in six months?! That doesn’t sound terribly…. neighbourly ? But from the tone of your posts, I can’t imagine you are the type of neighbour I’d have any interest in keeping in with.

henlake7 · 20/01/2026 15:27

Im surprised the OP still recognised them. Ive lost tons of weight and at least 2 of my neighbours think Im actually a different person!LOL😂

Yeah but as long as they’ve shiny hair it’s all good..

So true. Only the Always Skinny seem to count for some folk.

slashlover · 20/01/2026 15:30

I've lost 9 stones in a year through diet and exercise, spent money on a nutritionist and personal coach. I've been told I look gaunt, I'm too thin, asked if there's something medically wrong, told that I've gone too far.

I'm currently 5ft 10 and about 15 stones.

Needspaceforlego · 20/01/2026 15:43

fatwomangettingthin · 20/01/2026 14:00

I’ve lost five stone with Mounjaro.

I have a couple of people who are obsessed with it and one especially keeps telling me I look gaunt. I don’t! I’m 11 stone and 5’2; my BMI is 28!

They are just used to seeing me at sixteen stone 🤢

Go you!
Are you planning to keep going?
Im same height and struggling to get under 11st 7.

I understand that, but what is the effect of drugs with no long term safety data?

MrsTigerface · 20/01/2026 15:55

About 15 years ago, the couple living
next door to us did just this. I hadn’t happened to see them (to get a good look at, anyway) for a couple of months or so and goodness! They had both shrunk so much. They looked great. Turned out that they were getting married soon and had been to WW together to look trim for the occasion.

This being 15 ish years ago, WLI was not an available conclusion for me to jump to. People do lose weight without them, you know.

I'm fascinated by how interested people who aren't taking this specific medication are about how safe it is. If I hear about an advancement in say dementia meds or laser eye surgery my though is just wow that's great news. But medication that's actually helping people with obesity, which we know is impacting on people's health and is a huge concern in most developed countries, is met with such odd responses. But what about the side effects/ long term data/ looking like Sharon Osbourne/ potentially gaining weight if you come off the medication...

Yes - it’s weird, I always said I’d be OK once I got to 11’7 but Mounjaro has altered my whole perception. I still feel pretty big to be honest even though I’m skinner than I’ve been in nearly two decades!

They’ve been in use for around 20 years, how many years of data are needed before we can call it long-term?

They aren’t really concerned they are just trying to find a way to be negative. It’s pure jealousy. If the global health authorities are comfortable so am I,

no one likes being fat and it’s v difficult that many can’t afford them, but being negative doesn’t hide it. Or of course we have the ones who think they are superior as they can control their weight and are now pissed so can others without the effort. In their eyes. They need to put in.

there is almost daily threads on here with women furious about these injections.

SiberFox · 20/01/2026 19:02

As someone with a very round face who’s managing to finally drop some weight, I’m loving the more ‘gaunt’ look on my face. It gets really plump when I put on extra weight. A perfect circle. Love some definition that is showing up now that fat is leaving it. Fuck it if it makes me look older, it certainly makes me look better.

For some reason, there are a significant amount of very insecure people who seem to hate other people losing weight. It's baffling.

Superhansrantowindsor · 20/01/2026 19:17

If I walked out my house and thought my neighbour looked ill or different the very, very last thing I’d do would be start a thread on MN about it.

CarminaBiryani · 20/01/2026 19:19

Is it absolutely necessary that the WLI loss is so fast? I understand in terms of morbid obesity then there's an urgency, but why otherwise? Is it because you can't be on them for too long?

Fast weigh loss causes loss of muscle mass, often you see that around the neck which is a muscle contributing to the gaunt look.

The only reason I care is it is catastrophic for later life to have less muscle mass.

I am very worried about frail 70 year olds, but as always its profit (WLI companies) first.

I don’t think that’s the case. I think people are genuinely worried about people’s health. Anyone over 40 losing a huge amount of weight quickly are likely to look unwell because your skin looks loose which can make you look older and unwell. I know people in here seem to think weight loss injections are amazing but is it really healthy to lose weight that quickly? Your skin obviously doesn’t think so 😬.

No it’s not. Educated users take it slowly and focus on retaining/ building muscle whilst losing fat.

NoSoupForU · 20/01/2026 20:03

I always find it quite incredible that when someone's done something that's undoubtedly great for them there will always be someone like you who'll still find something to be bitchy about.
