Have we got nothing better to think about than Greenland??

I cannot believe this is dominating the national discussion.

The NHS is fucked
Thousands of undocumented people are entering our country (directly causing an increase in racist sentiment)
The UK is seen as being on a downward spiral in general

Let Denmark work it out.

Surely we have better things to be focusing on!

…..and racist….our massively unequal society is caused by 0.7% powerless asylum seekers 🤦‍♀️

….this is the same NHS in OPs and others minds that believed the big bus promises….a fantasy one…not the one starved of resources by lobby groups that want to privatise it and fools who think austerity is a route to healthy communities

He's already been given:

1 Serena Williams Wimbledon Ladies Single final shield
2 A brain from the Scarecrow in Wizard of Oz
3 A trophy from the dog who won Crufts
4 The last World Cup
5 President Obama's Nobel Peace Prize (so now he has two)
6 Conchita Wurst's Eurovision trophy
7 Willy Wonka's Golden Ticket

(All according to Facebook memes anyway ;) )

You forgot one!

Im not saying it’s not a concern.

Let Europe work it out.

@Mranke
We are not part of The The European Union (EU) which is an economic and political union of 27 countries, and operates an internal (or single) market . We left that as you are aware.

We ARE a European Country though when it comes to the Geography and other Alliances We are members of NATO for example. We are in a crisis currently, because a power hungry, megalomaniac apparently is unable to make any rational decisions. If things escalate, we will be in danger like everyone else. This COULD lead to ww3 - so yes, we should want to see the news about it.

Trump is blowing up things which have kept most of the Western world safe for the last almost 80 years. Of course thinking people are very concerned as to where this is all going.

Wasn't that a bit silly of you? After all those promises Britain hasn't moved one inch centimetre.

I'm in Denmark. I was being sarcastic. As I've explained uptread. Should have been clearer. But the ignorance of the post annoyed me to no end.

I'm amazed they had time tbh, I mean there must be some lampposts that still need flags on?

Or councils that need tanking

It’s huge news.

it will essentially start ww3. It will go against nato. International laws.

it’s huge.

The NHS is incredible... fuck off to American/Africa/India etc... etc... then tell me our health system is broken.

I hate to say this, but geographically speaking, the UK is part of Europe.

Don't forget the Fifa "peace award" 😂

So if it isn't about something that influences your life right now, the newspapers shouldn't write about it? All righty, then ...

Plus IT IS going to affect our lives via the tariffs affecting our selling to the US market

We've moved about 5 cm in two years.

But being on the same plate means the EU mostly moves with us. Delicious irony.

I think all of those things will pale into insignificance when we have a World War on our hands.

Everything that happens in America has a consequence for us.

I'm sure lots of people thought Archduke Ferdinands assassination was nothing to do with them in the UK.

How about Neville Chamberlain in 1938 saying "In a small country far away between people of whom we know nothing." Back then, Hitler was annexing Czechoslovakia.

But UK is part of NATO just like Denmark. ALL Nato countries have entered an agreement to "stand as one" if another Nato country is attacked. If a British isle got attacked the Nato allies would help to protect the isle.

What you don't seem to understand is that if the US attacks a Nato ally we are all in deep shit.

TessSaysYes · 19/01/2026 15:28

Your post is so irresponsable.
It's a seismic change for our place in the world. It would be the end of UK/US alliance and NATO. It could lead to invasion of Poland/Baltics by Russia.
Very thoughtless post.

Yeah, I think the President of the US apparently being an unstoppable, power mad, petty ("it's not fair you didn't give me the Nobel Prize") landgrabbing lunatic with nuclear weapons worthy of comment.

And if we have a full on war with nuclear weapons the NHS is going to be the least of your problems. I was pregnant with DS when someone on the radio said we're about 5 years away from nuclear war (I was at work and couldn't stop crying.) He's 18 months old now, and I pray it doesn't come to that (I had a nightmare about it a few months ago and it really upset me.)

It won't affect the USA though. That's the most important thing. (So I'm told anyway) and trying to reason with anyone of the standpoint that what Trump is doing is wrong is quite frankly, pointless.

More 'incredibly dumb' than thoughtless. Unless perhaps the OP simply isn't capable of thought.

Is that you, Vladimir?

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 19/01/2026 15:31

More goady bot accounts and their flying monkey handmaidens posting inflammatory, wide eyed BS threads. MN is overrun with them, same as all of the big social media platforms.

PandoraSocks · 19/01/2026 15:34

Yet posters who point that out as you have done @BalladOfBarryAndFreda are the ones that are reported and deleted on MN.

Let Europe work it out.

Erm...not sure how to break this to you but WE ARE EUROPE!

We are geographically speaking

But we have historically had - and still do have a special relationship with America - and I'm not sure we should be jeopardising that by being strongly anti the Greenland 'acquisition'

Yes we did leave the European economic zone and even when we were part of it we kept the pound, so we retained our independence. We have never seen ourselves as truly European. Hence Brexit.

We supported America in Iraq, and we support the Americans by providing intel via our British intelligence services.

If the NATO alliance ends it makes sense for us to deepen our ties to the USA not Europe.

I'm talking in the most impartial terms. I shudder at the implications.

beAsensible1 · 19/01/2026 15:37

one our closest western allies is threatening to invade a NATO country. Bizarre that you think this wouldn’t dominate headlines

it has military consequences for the entire region

smooththecat · 19/01/2026 15:38

Unreasonable. We are potentially seeing the out and out return of full on colonialism by the west. The rhetoric is right out of early colonial times, they are talking about the place as if the indigenous people don’t exist, don’t matter, don’t have any rights and don’t know what’s best for them. Absolutely disgusting. It’s a really dangerous moment. N.B. not saying colonialism ever went away, but Denmark was at least moving towards greater autonomy for Greenlanders.
