Have we got nothing better to think about than Greenland??

I cannot believe this is dominating the national discussion.

The NHS is fucked
Thousands of undocumented people are entering our country (directly causing an increase in racist sentiment)
The UK is seen as being on a downward spiral in general

Let Denmark work it out.

Surely we have better things to be focusing on!

The NHS is not fit for purpose.

It took me 18 months to get a diagnosis for something relatively straightforward.

This is totally irrelevant. If we stop talking about Greenland you won't suddenly get a diagnosis in a quicker amount of time. The hospital doctors and consultants aren't sitting there discussing foreign policy all day whilst ignoring their caseloads.

kelsaecobbles · 19/01/2026 14:33

Take your pick

We can focus on more than one thing at a time

we have decided we don’t give a fuck about the NHS because it costs and no one wants to pay

the nhs is irrelevant if we are all dead

have you any idea how many millions might be displaced - become illegal migrants - if we end up at war?

im in Scotland and apparently ( external experts not out gov) we are not in a downward spiral

Far-right parties in Europe are now abandoning Trumpism - even though parts of the Trump administration have been trying to cultivate them.

Literally this whole crisis is down to Trump being pissed off at not getting the Nobel Peace Prize.

Ha ha I’d forgotten about that. You’re right.

Read a history book.

A quarrel in a far away country, between people of whom we know nothing.

I believe it is peace for our time

Im not saying it’s not a concern.

Let Europe work it out.

We are part of Europe

We're still in Europe... just not the EU.

If you can see beyond your garden fence you'd realise how important this is.

I spent an afternoon a week last term teaching WW2 to a primary school class. We began with why it happened. The children understood that standing back and letting Hitler take over the Sudetenland was instrumental in him realising he could do what the fuck he wanted and led to the worst conflict the world had ever seen.

They also understood that it was finally ended - some time after VE day - via the first and only deployment of nuclear weapons.

The UK cannot stand back and say that this is "nothing to do with us" as you suggest. That's what we did in 1938.

Not to mention the impact of the US's isolationist stance of the 1930s in allowing Hitler's rise to power. They still had to join the war by 1941.

Two lessons learnt.

  1. Looking the other way do any stop bad things from happening, or from having an impact on you.
  1. A rogue US is dangerous even when it's not actively trying to disrupt the world order. It's influence is too great.

I love how you sound like this won't impact you. The NHS won't much matter if the global world order breaks down.

It's highly naive to think it won't affect the rest of us. He's already threatening to impose larger tariffs on the UK for one. I can't believe there are people out there who actually believe America's decisions don't affect the world.

BitOutOfPractice · 19/01/2026 14:37

If you’re still struggling OP, why not have a look at what the leader of Reform whatever party you support thinks about it.

And why do you think the news channels not reporting on Greenland would have got you a quicker diagnosis? I suggest you look up the definition of non- sequitur (clue: it’s not an alternative to garden pruners).

Yes and at that point they picked GB up and moved it to another continent…. Didn’t they?

trappedCatAsleepOnMe · 19/01/2026 14:39

I’ll give you clue. It’s between America and Denmark (EU) Which also happen to be our two biggest trading partners. Both of which have nuclear weapons. And lots And lots of guns.

I don't think Demark has Nukes does it?

France and UK do - and there are talks about how we can use what we have to potentailly cover Europe.

Offically it's US,Russia, China, UK and France - with some other countires likely having or unacknowledged- like Israel.

Putins already publically said he doens't are about Greenland - China not close by. I find it really odd though a US president doesn't seem to know where Alaska is - ie neigbours with Russia and accessible only through canada for cars/lorries. I've seen jokes that some US citizen think Alaska in a box next to hawaiian and wondering if there some truth to that now.

I don't think it will go to nuclear war - at least won't start that way if an invasion does happen - it hasn't in Ukraine yet - more drones and missiles and men on the ground.

It does seem to be more about minerals than anything else and it's looking like US is just going to try and bully their way into getting other countries minerals - it's part of a pattern.

I think it's pretty clear what party OP votes for. I'll refrain from commenting further...

You will be called ‘smug’ and ‘no wonder a lot of ordinary people support them’ it’s not smug , it’s factual, a great many have the vote but don’t understand the whole ideology - just the bit they agree with, like hating foreigners etc or not understanding why it hugely escalated ( they don’t want to believe that being out of EU is a significant part of it - French now under no EU conditions to control at their end) - Farage though is very keen on rich ones with influence who fund him- doesn’t matter where they are from..

Are you aware of NATO and our responsibilities under said treaty?

Are you really so insular and small minded that you would sit back moaning about immigrants while the USA declares war on the rest of NATO?

Are you one of these who doesn't bother with the news or current affairs?

Get a fucking grip for fucks sake.

If Trump invades Greenland these will be the least of our problems.
