Skeletal model used in Boden mailshot

Has anyone else noticed the model in the recent Boden mailshot? She looks unhealthily thin. I thought we were moving away from 'heroin chic,' but it seems to be creeping back into mainstream marketing. It feels irresponsible for a brand like Boden to promote such a frail aesthetic as 'aspirational.'

Some people have naturally high metabolisms and can eat loads and stay very slim. Many in my family are like that. The attitude that it’s impossible is offensive. There seems to be an attitude from some (possibly stemming from envy) that slim people must be eating very little and that they’re unhealthy. It’s simply not true for lots of slim people.

I agree and would go further - by eating well and never dieting our bodies never needs to reduce their metabolism (as never worried about food scarcity)!

Bbq1 · 13/01/2026 14:20

She just looks normal model thin. Not unhealthily so.

SadTrend · 13/01/2026 14:43

She looks fine to me. Tall and young and above average pretty. Good for her!

LittleMG · 13/01/2026 14:48

I’m surprised so many think she looks normal I think she looks really thin!

She looks perfectly healthy - slim, but healthy.

I think threads like this show how skewed our idea of "normal" is nowadays.

Normal in the UK is overweight. She looks slim but healthy.

@Heartbreaksally I'm sorry if I caused any offence; that certainly wasn't my intention. I think perhaps I was just reacting to what looks like AI manipulation or digital editing, which makes the proportions in the image look a bit off.

You can see from her legs that she’s perfectly healthy and not at all “skeletal,” which is a nasty thing to say about someone. She’s almost certainly had buccal fat removal in her face to hollow her cheeks out, which is extremely common right now. That’s all.

I don’t think so that is a very thin body, most bodies have curves. I’m not saying SHE ost healthy but it’s not a healthy aspiration for most people

I agree with this.

Although, I will admit I'd prefer to see clothes modelled on a less thin body, if I'm honest, because think it's easier to imagine a sized up or down version. I find it difficult to imagine what clothes would look like on me when I can only see them on a very slim body without curves.

A couple of brands I buy show the same item on a size 8/10ish and a size 16/18ish body. Im a 12 and its far easier to imagine how it would look on me. Especially when they both have boobs and bums!

How can you tell whether she has curves or not? She's wearing loose-fitting clothing and is riding a bike.

According to the NHS around 64% of adults are overweight or obese, so it isn't surprising most bodies have curves.

That isn't a healthy aspiration. Maintaining a BMI between 18.5 and less than 25 is. I doubt that model's BMI is less than 18.5.

Agree, most bodies have curves as most people are over weight. And that’s not a healthy aspiration. Personal taste comes into it in terms of what you look good but a healthy aspiration should be a healthy weight.

The model’s feet look out of proportion to the rest of her and I don’t think it’s just the camera angle.

Wtf?! Some of us have big feet. Why do we all have to be what YOU think is in proportion.
Your feet may look ridiculously small to me, which would make you look fat (sad but true). But I wouldn't say so, because it's obvious it's just your feet causing it.

Have a look at beach photos from last century - almost everyone was slim/skinny. That’s how we were designed to be!

I was in Tokyo recently and most people there are slim!

We’ve normalised obesity here imo

Sorry, you’d look at someone’s feet and decide from that if you thought they were fat?

That is some speedy judgement and assessment.

My feet aren’t small because I’m fat, they’re small because I’m 5ft2. I can confirm that even when I was smaller, my feet were not.

Ah ok, so it’s not ok to judge you having small feet as you’re short but it’s ok to judge a tall woman for having big feet as she’s tall.

righto. So that’s the same as can’t judge fat women for being fat, but you can judge slim women for being slim. Basically you can judge anyone and anyone can be judged as long as they don’t like like you or the indivual.

She picked an image where the woman was pouting and said she looked skeletal and like she was addicted to heroin. If she’d picked an over weight woman and said she looked morbidly obese and a pie addict then I’m fairly sure you’d see the offence. It works both ways.

It would be nasty both ways, too.

There is a significant difference in the amount of effort it takes to inject yourself once a week vs the time and effort it takes to build visible muscle in the gym.

Your argument is ridiculous. I am a WLI user who has spent years dieting and exercising to lose weight.

I made no ‘arguement’. I simply said that losing weight with WLI takes time and effort, because your post implies it doesn’t require either. I didn’t say it took more or less effort than going to the gym, just that it does require some. Becuase it does.

Did I say it was okay to judge anyone?

I’ve already answered someone previously and said I don’t believe it’s acceptable to judge other people’s bodies - or health for that matter.

The point I was making was that judging someone’s fatness based on the size of their feet is a snap judgment, based on very little, and is equal parts ridiculous and uncalled for.

If it’s healthy for her, why wouldn’t it be a healthy aspiration for most people? Because she’s from planet Skeletor? She’s a normal person, yet you seem to be suggesting she is a bad thing for people to be looking at. This is just more body shaming dressed up in different words.

It SHOULD be everyone’s aspiration - we would be MUCH healthier as a country!

I am shocked that so many people are saying she looks fine! Shows that we are still, on the whole of the belief that skinny is normal and to be desired.
She absolutely does look skeletal. Some women are naturally lean of course, but this level of thin is not common or usual.

It IS to be desired! It’s what our bodies were designed to be and it’s much healthier!!
