Skeletal model used in Boden mailshot

Has anyone else noticed the model in the recent Boden mailshot? She looks unhealthily thin. I thought we were moving away from 'heroin chic,' but it seems to be creeping back into mainstream marketing. It feels irresponsible for a brand like Boden to promote such a frail aesthetic as 'aspirational.'

Boden have always used really really skinny models imo.

Yeah this did come crumbling down really quickly when it became “easier” to lose weight. Most of the “I love my obese body” brigade were surprisingly willing to inject themselves with drugs that have potential side effects and health implications to change that body shape that they loved so much…

More that people on the internet were unsurprisingly eager to tell them that they were still terrible people and had no business liking themselves or being seen as thinking they had worth beyond the volume of air they took up.

Sleepasaurus · 12/01/2026 11:27

The model is blowing a kiss which has hollowed her cheeks. Shes wearing a striped top which has an effect on her torso.

It’s actually quite shitty to refer to people’s body types as skeletal or heroin chic.

Imagine the opposite of this.

She looks fine and healthy!

Skinny is back in fashion... as is ultra masculinity. I read that in times of economic uncertainty women dress sexier and men dress more 'manly'. Have a look at recent awards red carpets.. all the gender neutrality has gone.

It's not just the result of skinny jabs - it's a reaction to global economics.

DizziLizzy · 12/01/2026 11:30

My sister looks like that and she eats well! She's sporty and on the go 24/7 but she can pack away her meals. Im slightly bigger and can put weight on easily if Im not careful. We are just different. My sister and the Boden model still have normal bodies but slim and athletic. We've also got to remember the term curvy was once associated with a slim hourglass figure but now seems to refer to obesity. Plus size yes but not curvy.

I agree she looks much healthier in this image @Villanellesproudmum

Yes I think she has been stretched. Most models have long legs relative to their body. Her legs look short and as I said huge feet.

Oh yeah the feet! Lol. Yeah she's just been bent out of proportion hasn't she?

RosesAndHellebores · 12/01/2026 11:31

I'd like to see her without any clothes on. Not in that way but it would demonstrate whether she's skeletal and I suspect she is.

I also remember when Boden used to use real people who werwn't models in their catalogue. When it was a niche and fabulous brand.

Toast is horrendous vis a vis models afaiac. Everyone I know who wears toast is a bit quirky and my size. A bit overweight but not obese. I don't think their lanky, skinny models show the clothes off well.

MrsBridgetMcClusky · 12/01/2026 11:32

I'm not commenting on the model's body, but it does seem to be an unusual image to pick in terms of distortions.

mcmuffin22 · 12/01/2026 11:35

KimberleyClark · 12/01/2026 11:13

The model’s feet look out of proportion to the rest of her and I don’t think it’s just the camera angle.

Her feet do look massive and her body looks elongated. Who knows what is real these days?

A lot of it also has to do with getting older and the effects of obesity starts to take it's toll on your body and your health.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 12/01/2026 11:38

I don’t see how you can tell if anyone’s skeletal, when they’re fully clothed, like this model. Modelling the likes of swim- or underwear would be a different matter.

Merely tall and very slim - 5’ 9” or 10” and a size 8 - is pretty standard for a lot of models - notably the ones wearing something I really like the look of - that alas would look rather different on me!

Heartbreaksally · 12/01/2026 11:39

I look similar frame wise to this model, and I can assure you I eat and am a healthy weight with a healthy BMI.

And take great offence at "lanky," "skeletal," and "heroine chic" used throughout the post and comments.

I wouldnt in any circumstance use derogatory language speaking about anyone overweight or obese. In fact, I wouldnt actually make a point of commenting on anyone's body size. Awful post.

'Great offence' is a bit much

EasternStandard · 12/01/2026 11:44

That image is at an angle. If you look up Boden model on a bike another pic of her comes to, she looks slim but normal

Redpeach · 12/01/2026 11:42

'Great offence' is a bit much

Of course its not a bit much. Being likened to a skeleton or a drug user is definitely offensive!

Brightlittlecanary · 12/01/2026 11:46

That’s just a healthy weight model sucking her cheeks in and I suspect you knew that on the latter but picked the image that suited your narrative.

if you think that woman is skeletal, and you must have seen the other images of her at the same time, then your perception is way way off.

Redpeach · 12/01/2026 11:42

'Great offence' is a bit much

Would you say it's a bit much if an overweight person took great offence to being referred to as tubby or porky etc?

ElegantFowl · 12/01/2026 11:47

She looks a perfectly healthy weight to me.

vanillalattes · 12/01/2026 11:47

In what world is she skeletal? 🫣

godmum56 · 12/01/2026 11:47

I agree with others that either she is of extremely gracile build or the image has been (badly) edited or both.

Brightlittlecanary · 12/01/2026 11:48

Redpeach · 12/01/2026 11:42

'Great offence' is a bit much

She picked an image where the woman was pouting and said she looked skeletal and like she was addicted to heroin. If she’d picked an over weight woman and said she looked morbidly obese and a pie addict then I’m fairly sure you’d see the offence. It works both ways.

boobashka · 12/01/2026 11:48

@Heartbreaksally I'm sorry if I caused any offence; that certainly wasn't my intention. I think perhaps I was just reacting to what looks like AI manipulation or digital editing, which makes the proportions in the image look a bit off.

Agree, for some people slim is fair game. But they won’t tolerate it for overweight, it’s ridiculous. When will women stop attacking other women for their appearance.
