The more tenuous the better.

I don’t want any of your “My mum used to clean for a famous pop star” because that turns into pages of tiresome questions and “Oh go on tell us who it is/give us a clue/no I can’t sorry”

I want such tenuous connections that nobody will bother asking follow up questions.

I’ll start.

My dog was Mr Tumble’s dog’s mum.

Someone I know from university was an extra on Dr Who.

Someone I knew from the school run was an extra on Smoggie Queens.

I went to primary shool with the singer from Scouting For Girls.

James Marriott might have mentioned my daughter in an interview that my daughter can no longer find, tenuousness at its finest.

i stepped in front of John Cleese’s Rolls Royce in Notting Hill. He glared at me.
Rick Wakeman stood on my foot in a branch of Boots in Oxford Street. He too glared at me.

This reminds me I once almost got knocked over by Alan Yentob as he was driving out of the carpark at Broadcasting House. I didn't realise cars came out of there so wasn't looking where I was going. I initially thought it was Salman Rushdie, but realised later I had gotten them mixed up!

RobertaFirmino · 11/01/2026 13:10

I once sold a television to Peter Beardsley.

LoopingStar · 11/01/2026 13:12

The English teacher of a former manager was Phillip Pullman.

Jhm88 · 11/01/2026 13:22

I spoke to Darius from Popstars on the phone like 20+ years ago. And when I used to use Instagram years ago, Chris Brown yelled at me then blocked me (thank god)

wizzbitt · 11/01/2026 13:27

Oooooh, I’ve just remembered one. An actor who used to play a teacher in Grange Hill - not one of the main characters but recognisable if you were of a certain age which I was, was my supply cover when I had a week’s leave to attend a funeral abroad. I didn’t actually meet him but he left me a lovely letter saying how grateful he was for the detailed work I had left. As someone who has since done supply teaching that was a massive compliment 😂

Watsonflannel · 11/01/2026 13:34

I’ve remembered another. I used to play netball with someone who lived opposite Paul Weller’s sister.

Friedakhalosparrot · 11/01/2026 13:40

The woman who worked in the print room at work was married to a member of showaddywaddy. She was very glamorous and wore leather trousers (in the 80’s)

Bbq1 · 11/01/2026 13:49

Appeared in Hollyoaks and Brookside.

tanstaafl · 11/01/2026 13:50

shared a lift ( as in elevator ) with Glen Hoddle.

Cairneyes · 11/01/2026 13:53

Paul Daniels hit a golf ball into my garden.

Toetouchingtitties · 11/01/2026 00:35

I trod on Debbie McGee's foot in a dark cinema, while I was leaning over her to ask Paul Daniels for his signature.

He said no.

Oh no, it only works if they tread on your foot 🤣 Alan Rickman trod on the back of my foot at a drinks reception. He was utterly charming and touched my elbow when apologising. I didn't get his autograph, just the personal touch 🤣

Cairneyes · 11/01/2026 13:57

And Rick Astley is my friend’s cousin

ghostyslovesheets · 11/01/2026 13:58

A couple of friends went on the become a music producer and an actor who was on Casualty for a couple of seasons

my favourite is having a letter read out on Tizwas!

Denim4ever · 11/01/2026 13:59

My claim to fame is that my maternal grandfather had a cousin who was a Hollywood film director. Ian Mckellan played him in a highly inaccurate bio pic.

CheltenhamLady · 11/01/2026 14:00

When 24 had just come out, and we had binge-watched it, I was walking through Venice, and Kiefer Sutherland was walking towards me. I thought I had conjured him up!!

I spent a chilled and chatty afternoon in Ireland with SJP and Matthew Broderick.

I am extremely jealous! I adore her and her husband!

Boolabus · 11/01/2026 14:02

I'm Irish where we've about 2 degrees of separation so I've a lot but my favourite is I spoke to Johnny Depp on the phone back in the 90s.

I was babysitting for people involved in film industry and he phoned when I was there (landline pre mobile phones). I was a massive 21 jump Street fan so nearly collapsed when he said (after I told him they weren't in) ok thanks can you tell them Jonny Depp called!

Cornishgirl59 · 11/01/2026 14:04

The fir cones that I use in my Christmas decorations came from Roger Taylors's (Queen drummer) garden.

Chilliandbanana · 11/01/2026 14:06

My dad went to boarding school with Robbie William’s manager.

My grandad used to work for the Krays.

Apparently my Uncle K did too. If your name begins with L, I wonder if we are related? Or maybe loads of people used to work for them? My Uncle is a really nice man so imagine it wasn't too closely, or for too long.

Mine is that I whirled out of a revolving door, circa 1990, in my first little business suit aged 21, straight into Charles Dance (then quite handsome). I said: 'oooh, Mr Dance, I'm so sorry!' He was charming. I melted.

My school friends designed that uniform 🤣

It showed!

NoWordForFluffy · 11/01/2026 14:09

I went to uni with a lad whose best mate was Tim Wheeler from Ash's younger brother. He had a pair of trainers which were given to Tim, but he didn't want them, so my friend had them instead.

About 60 years ago (see username) I rescued from a bin at our local swimming pool the greaseproof sandwich wrapping Dave Clark (as in The Dave Clark Five) had discarded, and stuck it worshipfully in my autograph album. I’ve still got it.

Not sure I could love this any more than I do!

There's a woman where I work who used to be married to one of Cast.
