If you require a site to have verified ID before allowing access (which also provides an audit trail) then it takes the heat off the platform, as long as they demonstrate they followed what was provided.

As the only country in the world to have never experience any data loss or thefts since the invention of the internet, the UK is ideally placed to implement such a system without any mistakes or risks. In fact we can be assured it will be perfect as the company that successfully provided the Post Office with it's flawless accounting system will be commissioned. I mean who apart from Fujitsu could pull off such a feat ?

The point is that while it takes skill and effort to Photoshop an image, anyone can create an AI image with a single prompt. Also, Photoshop isn't conveniently linked to a social media site allowing and encouraging people to easily propagate images.

No one is saying 'ban AI', just 'limit what AI can do'. That is certainly possible. For instance, I asked Microsoft Copilot whether it was conscious, and it came back with an answer that it wasn't allowed to respond to questions like that.

One of Adobes justifications for it's price hikes is that all the "AI" it is stuffing into it's subscription tools is able to connect to whatever social platforms you like.

The point is advice to stay out of public spaces after dark was not to punish women but to try and keep them safe until he was caught.

Having a curfew for men would not have worked as serial killers tend to skulk about in the shadows.

If we had a serial on the loose now the same advice would no doubt apply.

I was on Twitter for years but deleted it a few months ago.
Haven't missed it at all. My reason for leaving is because it was just becoming a more and more toxic hellhole so this doesn't surprise me in the slightest.

I've switched to Threads which I find is like Twitter but back in the "good old early days", before it all went to shite when Musk took over.

Tbf you choose whom you follow and it only gives you posts based on your intrests so I've no idea what the problem is.

That's not true, though. It seems to default set to a "suggested for you" feed and you get posts from people/businesses etc you don't follow. You have to actively check you're still on your "following" feed.
Also the algorithm shows more of stuff you interact with.
So say for example you comment on a news article about boat crossings/immigrations, you'll get more and more in your feed as it thinks you're "interested." It thinks you want racist shits in your feed and pushes more as some of the comments underneath are truly disgusting, and they're everywhere. Racism and inciting hatred is rife on Twitter and it's just getting worse, you can't escape it.

But you jusy swipe across at the top to 'following' rather than 'for you'. I know what you mean it is awful to see things that you find offensive but ime it is easy to control.
I quite like it for news and a cross section of opinion.

It would be brilliant if men were told not create porn and post it on X, but it seems no one on X is willing to ask Musk to stop giving men porn programing and hosting the porn made with it.

The solution to that isn’t to guilt women into boycotting.

I’ve never been on X/Twitter, but I don’t see how this is different from any other form of image manipulation, from the famous photo from newly Soviet Russia that deleted Nicholai Yezhov to a a collage of different body parts to a good illustration. This was already possible with photoshop. It’s just quicker and easier with AI. The result isn’t real. You aren’t looking at what Starmer or anyone else really looks like in a bikini.

Of course not. Some will boycott, others will not. Either way it will be their own choice.

I know I wouldn't. It'd make you feel violated/vulnerable. Even if it's "not really your body." or whatever. It'd still look like it was and have people talking about you/degrading you.
