Young girls, un-consenting women and now this

@eliothiggins.bsky.social‬
Just seen Grok putting the body of the victim of the ICE shooting in Minneapolis into a bikini. Digital corpse desecration now available to the public.

So how do you tell between "nefarious" VPNs and fluffy bunny wabbit VPNs ?

You clearly don't understand the topic so stop trying to insinuate.

I am saying that people don't all use VPNs to access porn. I use one to access BBC iPlayer from abroad (so sue me) and to ensure that all my transactions online are safe.

VPN use is absolutely normal for all the companies i've ever worked for since the advent of VPNs.

Brefugee · 10/01/2026 11:48

Porn has become a) normalised and b) more extreme (see a) over the last decades.

What we need to address is that it is so normalised and so easy to access. Geoblocking, age restrictions and discussions (so many more discussions) especially with young people, are needed to push the needle back.

Pornography has always existed, but the range and availability is unprecedented nowadays.

NotTerfNorCis · 10/01/2026 11:49

I'm on Twitter and I use Grok. It's actually one of the better AI tools available. Of course I don't approve of its use to create these images, and I absolutely despise Elon Musk.

I still can't see your point ?

Seems Lord Musk will now push the narrative that nasty little women whinging about fair use porn are really secret agents of the Starmer State who are dedicated to erasing (his) free speech by banning X. Aided and abetted by the usual suspects.

Anyone care to disagree ?

Somehow this is more about Starmer and caring that he’s not disliked more and berating women on mumsnet rather than the men doing the stuff. Why not campaign at the men directly?

EasternStandard · 10/01/2026 12:03

GalaxyJam · 10/01/2026 11:45

Yes it’s people (let’s face it, men). But apparently the answer to the problem is that women change their behaviour by boycotting X.

Easy pickings, best look after men including Starmer and women must change.

what is your actual question?

SerendipityJane · 10/01/2026 12:05

Brefugee · 10/01/2026 12:04

what is your actual question?

Yes, VPNs are a thing but the really good ones are expensive, and as the BBC shows very effectively, if you have a team of devs working on it, you can usually stop VPN access quickly.

How can you tell which ones to stop and which ones to not stop ?

It's ridiculous because at the same time as OP is encouraging people to boycot x due to grok usage. She is also giving a a defense to these disgusting people doing it by blaming grok as opposed to holding people accountable for their actions. Ridiculous post altogether.

Whatifitallgoesright · 10/01/2026 12:41

We know why Starmer, Lib Dems et al have focused on X. They don't like that people get news from there not in the MSM. The stats here show porn images are much more prevalent on other platforms. If they cared about sexual abuse then the grooming gangs could have been smashed by now. They just don't like free speech.

If you're still on X are you ok with what Grok's been doing?

There are dozens of known free VPNs that the BBC (for one) is constantly battling against. These are often just dodgy data harvesting sites, or something used by people trying to access things they wouldn''t want their mum to see.

Then there are "legit" VPNs such as NordVPN who offer proper secure channels to protect your data, rather than (although they do sell it as a positive side effect) accessing geoblocked content (usually in terms of; you can set your netflix account to the USA to see geoblocked content) which is, frankly, dodgy, but not as such illegal and probably not used by illegal porn sites.

Most people don't use VPNs anyway. So geoblocking is effective, and then blocking VPNs where possible/necessary is also an option.

Pieceofpurplesky · 10/01/2026 13:58

I am on X mainly for the edutwitter community. What is happening on there is appalling and the right wing bias is scary - the outright lies that are told
with thousands of replies believing the shite and calling for Trump to take over the UK etc. What has intrigued me this week is all the usual suspects who call out the government for not protecting 'are wimmin and children' are so opposed to banning AI images of these women and children ...

I try to avoid it but it's a rabbit hole. I am
thinking of coming off but will miss the useful parts

It was you that mentioned geoblocking and the BBC. Personally I have never considered geoblocking a thing. Mainly because it isn't. It's a lame ass "only thing we can do" attempt to pretend that you can control the internet. And the internet is explicitly designed to not be controlled.

You actually think that men will stop generating porn
because uppity women are no longer on the same social media site

I have a bridge to sell you

No, I obviously don’t think that. Hence the sarcastic tone of my post.

It’s probably too soon to say but downloads of VPNs may have increased instead. Are all sites complying with the law? Has the government gone after any foreign sites flouting the requirement?

Removal of images is obviously a good thing but there’s a million other places to get porn so I’m hoping that it’s not just one site.

VPN downloads were said to have increased massively. There's lots of free ones out there.

This is not just the UK. So far the grok application is being challenged by:
India
Australia
France
Poland
The EU
Malaysia
Brazil

And they're just the ones I know have started taking action. Other countries, including the US are looking into it.

This is a real threat to all of us, stop trying to turn it into a culture war.

i really don't know how much easier i can make it for you.

The BBC is only available in the UK. If you use a VPN chances you aren't in the UK so they block it.

ETA what you think of geoblocking is neither here nor there.

It works very well in China and Turkey. If the UK is so anti what goes on on X - they can block it.
it really isn't rocket science.

If other countries follow suit, X may reconsider how they operate

Facebook and Instagram and Bluesky and Reddit and all the other sites neve did.

If you want to keep your access to twitter and he wants to keep you as users, isn’t it worth a try?

It's worth remembering the "axis of evil" that the Bush regime decided existed.

Mysteriously they were all countries that had chosen not to use the dollar to sell oil in ...

#justsayin' for when Trump suddenly declares (checks notes) India, Australia,
France, Poland, The EU, Malaysia, Brazil an "axis of evil".

Talkinpeace · 10/01/2026 16:34

Which other news / media websites are covering what is happening at the Iranian Embassy in London RIGHT NOW ?

XTwitter is where its at
grok or no grok

Valeriekat · 11/01/2026 07:07

Yes it is vile however "Grock" didn't decide to do it by itself: some terrible human did and fyi you can do exactly the same thing in photoshop and many other platforms.

exLtEveDallas · 11/01/2026 07:39

My cynical brain thinks that the whole X furore is going to end with "and that's why everyone now has have a digital ID" rather than anything to do with protecting children from CSA.

FuckRealityBringMeABook · 11/01/2026 07:52

I judge anyone still using it for voluntarily funding powerful neo-Nazis.
