Am I the only woman in my mid thirties who has 2 dc and doesn’t have that nagging feeling for another?

I’m 35. Mine are just turned 6 and 2.5, so possibly I’m still in the thick of it all with 2 of them being young, but I know already when they’re a bit older I’m still not going to long for a 3rd. I swear everyone I know says they wish they could have another as it’s their last chance type thing, nope not me! Anyone else?

I had mine at 33 and 36. They are both well into primary school now and there hasn't been a single day when I've wanted a third (though DH did for a while).

ReignOfError · 06/01/2026 20:46

I was sterilised a few days before my 32nd birthday, when mine were 9 and 7. Almost everyone I know has one or two children.

I think a lot of the time it’s not exactly a real longing, but as the door closes on the baby and toddler stage that’s it, it’s the end to a chapter in your life. No more maternity leave or toddler groups or cots or potties. Even if you hated it, it can be hard letting go.

I don’t want a third. My youngest turns two and a half this month, but it did surprise me when I realised I only have one more Christmas with her at nursery. The nursery has been in my life since 2021; six years is a long time and it will be strange when I’m no longer going to it two / three times a week.

DH got a vascetomy when DC2 was 1.5. I'm now 38 and very happy with 2!

Occasionally I hold a newborn and think, oh this would be lovely to do again. But I'm not sure I could do the sleep deprivation!

Luckyforsome23 · 06/01/2026 21:15

I had 3 and am totally done. I can imagine someone else getting to the same point with 2. Most families we know have two.

FairFuming · 06/01/2026 21:26

I'm about to be 35 and absolutely don't want to have another one 😂

Buttons0522 · 06/01/2026 21:33

I was totally done with two up until recently… mine are 8 and 5 and I know I’d be mad to go back to starting over but it’s that nagging feeling you describe… but it’s not as strong as the absolute pining I had for my first baby…

I was you. When my DC were a little older than yours are now I went to university and developed a new career. I loved my DC and still do, but having little ones is a phase and there is more to life. Don’t feel guilty. Make your own life.

Elmo230885 · 06/01/2026 21:56

Nope. Wanted two, had two. They are now 6 & 8, im 40. Not once have I had pangs for a third.

Hallywally · 06/01/2026 21:58

No I know loads of women/families with two kids or even one.

I mean, you’re right, but I think some people tell themselves that we would all be having more than two if only we could, or if we dared, or if we were goddessy enough, or something.

It is permissible to ignore clear idiots. Most of my friends, relatives, colleagues etc have 2 kids. Some have 3, some more, some 1, some zero. Not had any experience of people saying everyone wants 3 kids.

ListenLinda · 06/01/2026 22:10

I’m 35 with two. DD is nearly 9 & DS nearly 7 and I would rather eat rusty nails than do it all again.

IndigoIsMyFavouriteColour · 06/01/2026 22:12

We had a stillborn daughter inbetween two sons. If that hadn’t happened we would have been content with two, but very grateful for our third (a little girl) 5 years later

ResusciAnnie · 06/01/2026 22:13

Er, no. Most of my friends have zero kids, others 1 or 2. I have 3 but are massively in the minority.

Tiedbutchorestodo · 06/01/2026 22:16

Have never had any desire to have a third - even the thought of it fills me with dread - I love my children to bits and have no regrets having them but two is plenty for me and I’d have stopped at one if it wasn’t for having a second marriage.

I agree OP, what idiot would want a third! I had four instead🤣🤪

I've got three and would love another. My body would not appreciate it though 🤣
She says as she's clearing out baby stuff 😭

BigBadBarrie · 06/01/2026 23:46

Nope. 34 with a 12 and 6 year old. Had my 2yr old nephew sleep over a few times, im definitely done, as much as I like the idea, it would not be a good reality!

Swissmeringue · 06/01/2026 23:59

You've totally just described me. I'm 39, my kids are 7 and 3 and I want another one. My DH isn't for turning though, he's a few years older and feels like he's too old to have another which is fair enough.

I'm in the minority though, most of my friends have 2 kids and look at you like you've grown a second head if you mention intentionally having a third. All the third kids I know have been surprises. 😂

ByKeenBlueHelper · 07/01/2026 00:55

Hell no I have 2 under 10 and in my late ,30s no way do I want another
