To be annoyed at Aldi cashier?

Kate8889 · 05/01/2026 21:01

I have a bad habit of starting/reading a recipe and then realizing I don't have an ingredient, so I run to Aldi and get it, super quick and convenient.

I was there on Dec 29th and the cashier asked if I thought I'd be back before 2026, and said "Let's try not to".

I'm paying for the service right? I'm usually there once a week or so.

eh?

TY78910 · 05/01/2026 21:05

It depends… did they have a queue of people behind you?

RubyFatball · 05/01/2026 21:05

I think people just say the first thing that comes to mind.

Upthenorth · 05/01/2026 21:06

I don’t think it was meant as an affront. Sounds like general chit chat to me.

Lots of people say they’re trying to avoid the shops etc.

ClearFruit · 05/01/2026 21:06

What?

ChocolateSqueezyyogurts · 05/01/2026 21:06

Sounds like a light hearted joke to me.

Toottooot · 05/01/2026 21:07

REPORT REPORT REPORT 🙄

grumpygrape · 05/01/2026 21:09

You’ve been stewing on this for a week ?

Tulcan · 05/01/2026 21:15

Goodness.

DeathStare · 05/01/2026 21:15

Just before Christmas I did a supermarket shop and as things are going through the till and im packing the cashier asks me if I think I've got everything I need or if I might need to come out again before Christmas. I reply that I think I'm done but you never know. She said "fingers crossed you don't have to come back" and we both laughed.

I didn't give it another thought until I read this post. It was a lighthearted quip about the misery of supermarket shopping particularly at this time of year. If any thing, she was wishing me well.

Is that not pretty much the same as what happened to you?

GreggWallace · 05/01/2026 21:16

You're still thinking about this now you need to get a life.

ColdAsAWitches · 05/01/2026 21:22

Some people will get offended at anything! Do you ever have an argument in an empty room OP?

ilovesooty · 05/01/2026 21:23

Just small talk isn't it?

FOJN · 05/01/2026 21:31

Write a sternly worded complaint insisting that she undergoes additional training and take some duck tape in to put over her mouth in the meantime. I can scarcely believe supermarket staff have the cheek to make small talk, don't they know that carries the risk of offending someone.

I won't have a word said against Aldi staff, the team at my local store are really friendly and helpful.

Zov · 05/01/2026 21:33

Log it with 101.

No, actually, 999 would be better.

Forgotwhatimdoing · 05/01/2026 21:34

That’s a pretty standard line of chat from a cashier. I got the same twice before Christmas.

I think you’re taking it personally because you’re self conscious about your shopping habits. And really you don’t need to be. It’s so easy to internalise the feeling that we should be perfectly organised superwomen, but that’s actually internalised misogyny.

Notashamed13 · 05/01/2026 21:34

Um Bongo!

Eyeshadow · 05/01/2026 21:36

He was being nice - surely you would hope that you haven’t forgotten anything and need to go shopping again!

Stop overthinking things that don’t need a second thought.

smallsilvercloud · 05/01/2026 21:41

Had you already been to the shop to the same cashier that day? out of breath from your run to get there, they may of been slightly bemused at seeing you again and just making small talk. They have to be there anyway so not sure why they would be annoyed. I quite often go back to the shop because I’ve forgotten something, I don’t care what they think.

BriefEncountersOfTheThirdKind · 05/01/2026 21:41

Are you actually the same poster who thought the pizza lady was being rude asking her how many pizzas she wanted?

Waterbaby41 · 05/01/2026 21:42

FFS - she was making small talk. Get a life.

😂😂😂😂😂😂

second time I’ve had to re read something today! OP, cheer up!

didntlikeanyofthesuggestions · 05/01/2026 21:43

Sickening. I'd write to the CEO or your local MP. She should be sacked immediately.

reversingdumptruckwithnotyreson · 05/01/2026 21:44

After such mortal offence i fear the only solution is to bring back the guillotine 🥀

Kitterkitkat · 05/01/2026 21:47

Aldi have self service? Or at least ours does.

Most of us realise we've forgotten something, it's not important.
