Why did President Trump claim that his Scottish mother loved the Queen, when the Scottish don’t like English rule?

OP posts:
BlackCoffeeAndSugar · 05/01/2026 05:40

Never thought I'd be defending him but maybe because not every Scottish person feels the same?!

ShesTheAlbatross · 05/01/2026 05:45

It’s hardly beyond belief that she might have.

But he does have a casual relationship with the truth, so who knows. It certainly wouldn’t be his most concerning lie.

pinksheetss · 05/01/2026 05:49

Scottish and proud here… loved the Queen.

chipsticksmammy · 05/01/2026 05:49

His mother was a Macleod from Lewis.

Do your own research.

BreakingBroken · 05/01/2026 05:51

Just because you don’t like the institution does not mean you don’t like a particular person.

OwlBeThere · 05/01/2026 05:51

I know lots of Scottish people who liked the Queen.
what a strange question.

PollyBell · 05/01/2026 05:52

Is that a I cant think outside the box and think everyone one thinks the same ''Scottish" or I can engage my brain and put my thoughts together to realise "Scottish" people can think for themselves?

chipsticksmammy · 05/01/2026 05:54

It’s just a racist click bait question from someone who knows nothing of Scotland and has thrown in a hand grenade of a question.

Please don’t feed the troll.

CrackSpackle · 05/01/2026 05:54

I’ve got Scottish relatives. They loved the Queen and have no problem with “English rule”.

GeneralPeter · 05/01/2026 05:56

Nicola Sturgeon’s at it too OP:

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said Scotland “loved, respected and admired” the queen.

Your post rests on a few misconceptions. Scotland (narrowly) chose to remain part of the UK. The monarchy is more popular than UK rule is (the SNP’s plan was to keep the monarchy for example). The Queen personally was more popular than the monarchy in general. And older generations (like Trump’s mother) have the highest support levels.

Plus, the Queen was half Scottish, clearly loved the country and spent a lot of time there. She’s also descended from the Scottish line just as much as from the English one. In fact more so, as it was the English line that broke, leading to the union of the crowns.

Many Scottish nationalists would actively reject the idea that her English descent is the ‘real’ one and the Scottish one merely some secondary matter.

pinotnow · 05/01/2026 06:05

He has a casual relationship with the truth but plenty of Scots love the RF, maybe especially the Queen, who adored Scotland.

Hufflebuffs · 05/01/2026 06:13

I don’t understand. What has The Queen to do with English rule? She was the monarch of the UK?

Crocsforlife · 05/01/2026 06:23

Yeah I'm Scottish not fusssed by the royals whatsoever. My my mum, mil, gran in law etc all loved the queen had bunting etc and parties for jubilees.
My friend went into proper mourning when she died. On the other hand my husband, fil., boss etc are all for the revolution and couldn't give a shit when she died. (Did take the holiday though)

MN is littered with this shit. Can't move for Brit bash bots online.
One day.....

Why did President Trump claim that his Scottish mother loved the Queen, when the Scottish don’t like English rule?

You're talking about a man who doesn't even know the meaning of the Declaration of Independence, or, as many events have shown, the boundaries of the law. I doubt he has the faintest correct idea about anything in the UK.

randomchap · 05/01/2026 06:43

Because Trump is a bellend?

Dgll · 05/01/2026 07:10

If you are asking questions like this online, your interest in Trump might have gone a little too far. He is never going to love you back.

Mariocatgran · 05/01/2026 07:12

Im Scottish but also Proud to be British so she probably did love the queen like most of us scottish

Agreed, it’s just an argument dressed up as an opinion.

Its trying to start a fight.

For anyone who knows, the statement made in the OP is just to incite hate.

What ?

NemesisInferior · 05/01/2026 10:17

Plenty of scottish people like the monarchy and being part of the uk, the indie referendum was lost after all.

But let's be honest, Trump says whatever he thinks will benefit him regardless of the actual truth.

TooBigForMyBoots · 05/01/2026 10:21

You dont know much about the UK do you OP?

Ell099 · 05/01/2026 10:24

A lot of people in Scotland wish to remain part of the UK, which is not the same thing as “English rule.”

Frynye · 05/01/2026 10:25

I had an Irish grandmother and a Scottish one. Both were rather fond of the queen!

VickyEadieofThigh · 05/01/2026 10:26

The large numbers of people who turned out to pay their respects to the late Queen in Scotland suggests quite a few liked her...
