Why did President Trump claim that his Scottish mother loved the Queen, when the Scottish don’t like English rule?

Go to Scotland. One of my closest friends lives there, he travels wearing a kilt and will support any team playing the English, but in reality he loves England and the English. I visit regularly and have never had anything other than the warmest of welcomes from everyone. I can't say the same when I visit London, my own capital city.

A lot is made of the fact that his mother was Scottish.

I don’t recall the origin of his father being mentioned, but I did once read that one of his grandfathers was German.

I know Scots who are proudly British and love the Queen.
