What do you wear on a long flight?

Do you dress up for a flight somewhere? I've heard it's bad form to wear a tracksuit (like I do). Quite honestly if I'm flying for hours on end then everything I'm wearing is going to be elasticated.
I'm not going to sit there in a suit with high heels on.

DS is a frequent flyer for work. He always wears a suit and often gets upgraded. He recently broke his foot and flew in joggers and a foot brace. Not upgraded this time, despte actually needing the extra leg room. So it can still happen (though I have tried and it doesn't happen for me Grin

It's his status that's getting him upgraded.

I dress nicely but comfortably. I always want to look stylish, especially when I’m arriving at a hotel for the start of a holiday.

I would never wear a tracksuit in public unless I’m going to the gym. Looking great and being comfortable are not mutually exclusive.

It amazes me when I see people in very short shorts on a long haul flight. I just can’t imagine standing around in an airport dressed like that.

Long haul you’ve got to blend between comfort, and nothing too long or loose to avoid touching the toilet floor when visiting the loo! (Made the mistake of long cardigan and very wide leg pants once)

I think the penny drops for some about choice of clothing when they disembark at somewhere like London at 5AM on a January morning.....

I went to an Asian Pac country half a dozen times in the past 18 months in Business each time. Everyone was wearing yoga trousers, trainers and hoodies/ sweatshirts. I usually run hot on planes so prefer a short sleeved t shirt and a light cardigan on my top half.

Joggers t shirt and sweatshirt. Just got off a 10 hour flight.

Depends where you’re going, what you are doing straight from the airport and the temperature at home at time of travel. Typically for long haul it’s cold at home and warm at destination so I’ll wear a thin ish cotton knit dress with leggings underneath, socks, trainers then remove my leggings before landing, plus a cardigan (plus coat, scarf and hat as required by home conditions). Nice and comfortable but not informal either, mid range.

This is exactly my plan for later this month when we fly to the Caribbean. It will be freezing and possibly snowy here when we depart and then arrive back. Whereas in the Carribbean it will be 28+.

Layers all the way. Plus very unglamorous compression socks.

I've only ever been upgraded on a flight once. DH and I were flying to the States with DC when they were about 6 and 8. Whatever the reason they singled us out for the upgrade, it certainly wasn't our clothes!

Always leggings, tshirt and layers over the top whether short or long haul.
if flying to a hot destination it’s usually aircon in the airport and in the transfer direct to the hotel which also has aircon. I can cope with being warm for the max 5 minute walk from the terminal to the transport. Or just take my jumper off if required.
We tend to do an early morning flight from the U.K., it’s always cold at 5am so I’m appropriately dressed.
