To wonder what US Trump voters think now

Indiependant · 04/01/2026 08:55

Their country's reputation trashed. The man they voted for heavily implicated in the Epstein scandal. Contempt shown to them abroad.
About to completely shift Ukraine. Enabling Netanyahu to commit mass murder of children with their tax dollars. No roaring economy. The environment fucked probbaky beyond saving due to their inaction.
What, in all honesty, do the 75 million who have caused this catastrophe think?

I'm the opposite. I'm American and live in the UK but spend lots of time in NY, Massachusetts, Maine, Vermont and California and people are out of their minds with despair.

I do wonder how your American acquaintances are going to feel when their Obama-era healthcare subsidies expire this week.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c98n8lrj7y6o

@user233675892 is spot on. Many Trump voters don't care about what he's doing in Venezuela.

They're going to care a lot about their rocketing insurance costs this week.🫣

I think Americans weren’t given much of a choice. It was either Trump and Vance or the frankly horrible option of having President Kamala Harris (anybody remember anything she actually did in four years as Vice President. All I can recall is her repeating the same soundbites over and over and laughing out loud) and her running mate, the possible Vice President Tim Walz, the current governor of Minnesota, who now appears to have allowed millions and millions of dollars in fraud to take place over several years. I think many voters are relieved that they voted for Trump. Would you really have preferred Harris and Walz?

Edited

I'd have preferred the Chuckle Brothers over Trump and Vance.

DdraigGoch · 05/01/2026 01:28

@SuperbMum1 Also some may think Kamala Harris is a very capable woman, but can you honestly picture her negotiating on the telephone with Putin?

Well she's not going to cave in to Putin's every demand, is she? Witkoff didn't even bring an interpreter along, he relied on the one provided by the Kremlin.

Did Putin fund her campaign like he funded MAGA?

Trump arrangement syndrome I suggest you go away and have a look at the history of Caracas and what's going on there this was a precision Targeted incident in Caracas because he is trying to protect the USA from crime and drug trafficking do not comment until you know more about what has gone on in Caracas over decades with the corruption, fixed elections you name it - do some homework Before your ignorance blinds you completely

No, wrong! He’s itching to get his greedy little fingers on OIL. He doesn’t give a rat’s ass about protecting anyone.

Objectively It was an impressive military operation and a show of strength. So whatever you think about the legal and moral implications, I imagine his supporters are whooping and hollering with approval.

There's not that many developed countries that could have done that. I know we rightly crap on British management of armed forces and how they sre underfunded massively. But we could have done that easily, about the only thing it wasn't is a show of force that means something.

Of course their forces are huge that's not a comparison I am making. Just that this attack and operation didn't require that huge force, or anything special.

The new presidential "biographies" that have been put up under the portraits in the White House are absolutely hilarious .......👏👏👏👏😂😂😂😂. The next POTUS can change them. I absolutely loved them especially the photo of the Auto pen for Biden.......so so funny. What's wrong with a sense of humour?????? Starmer could do with a sense of humour ..... he is like some boring robot!

Edited

Except they're not funny. They're slanderous and deranged, and only a narcissist with the personality of a toddler would put them up and think anyone would still take him seriously.

Not even you find them funny. You're just trying to stick up for this bizarre man and clutching at straws in doing so.

Brits should really be more concerned what's happening to the UK. It's what's happening in Europe and the UK, is why I support Trump.

BTW; the BBC has been telling a lot fibs.

MobyTick · 05/01/2026 04:38

Jumpingthruhoops · 04/01/2026 23:43

Came on to say this. Quite an oddly timed OP given his recent action in bringing down an actual dictator...

Obama’s Libya operation was led by NATO and, significantly, didn’t have the capture of earth resources as a key goal. It was not cavalier and war-lordish in character, unlike the Trump Venezuelan one and his further planned acquisitions - Greenland, Cuba, and Colombia. (Look it up - he has actually said so in the last few hours.) Does Greenland have a dictator that I’m unaware of?

This Is a discussion thread. What Trump is doing concerns everyone as it has the capacity to affect countries across the globe.
Where do you resource your news from?

FourCatMama · 05/01/2026 05:24

I'm a US citizen and DID NOT vote for Dump. To be honest I think the people who did are just too stupid to realize how HORRIBLE he actually is.

GeneralPeter · 05/01/2026 06:10

Your list is unlikely to be one they recognise as either true or as the most important things.

Possible exception of the economy (but remember the US markets are going great and the US has much higher rates of share ownership than we do), and Epstein amongst a portion (but how many really chose their vote on that issue).

This feels like a mirror of those US right wingers who think the UK must be on the brink of civil war becuase London is a shithole, Muslims are taking over the country, and people get arrested for posting on X. People who voted for Starmer are highly unlikely to either agree with the premises or see these as the defining questions. Asking “what do Starmer voters think now” just misses the mark.

I get the impression there are no circumstances in which the 77 million will vote for anyone other than Trump/Vance. So whats the solution? The 75.million who didnt.vote for him plus like minded non voters emigrate and take their businesses and capital with them?
Europe/Asia etc could cope with proportionately spread.nunbers of this.magbiturde.
Or perhaps they need to actually go down. Recession. Dow Jomes tanks. Deeper recession. Sanctions on US goods. Public sector workers stage a mass walkout. Massive demonstrations. Mass civil unrest. Social breakdown. Law and order breakdown. Shops looted. Private militias. Tourist revenue disappears. Malnutrition and hunger. Eventually war and massive loss of life. The end of America, of capitalism, perhaps of this species which has trashed the planet and itself.

Are you in the US?

Radyward · 05/01/2026 07:55

Venezuelans are ecstatic
Oil. Im sorry Russia and China were there for 1 reason only
Its about preserving the dollar and bolstering the US economy.
It was incredible what the US military did. He was in a fortress .one of the most protected men in latin america if not the world. It waw unbelievably audacious and " took out a vicious dictator '
Trump is unpredictable for sure. Unscripted. Accessible to the public as talks ad hoc to the media
He is reassuringly ad hoc. No scripts ( air force 1 )
What a change.
I know one thing the ioc would still have men in womens sports only for him pushing this sea change. I bet Aberdeen and the laid off workers of the North Sea are praying for change in strategy here.
The world narrative is changing because of him. Gender reassignment of kids etc etc which He is totally against. Climate emergency etc etc etc.
Trump has brought a lot of good to the entire world and what it us is common sense as opposed to the emporers new clothes from Biden et al

Do you think Starmer voters feel any better unemployment up over 5 percent. Pensioners had wfa taken away from them. He gave away the Chargos Islands to Mauritius over 1600 miles away who had never owned it before, then spent billions leading it back from them. He's really glad he welcomed ael Fattah Egyptian man who threatened to kill Jews and police in the UK back to our country. He has cancelled local elections up and down the country like a dictator because he's afraid Reform might win them. He's broken promise he made in manifesto not to put up taxes. He won't sack the woman who he made Chancellor despite it being proven she is a compulsive liar. We have got so much to worry about in our own country as well as Starmer supporting Hamas.

Radyward · 05/01/2026 08:14

Starmer having no jury trials...... very fair as per our Keir

Yes. Yes I do think Labour voters feel better.

Looking at Breitbart News today, Trumpsters are overjoyed.

Their AR15 toting Jesus is still on his march to rid the world of commies, pinks, and anyone who they think hates their FREEDUMB. And that's anyone that ain't one of them.

And when I say Jesus, I mean the actual Jesus, not Trump.

About 30% of Americans believe in the literal " 6 days of creation. About 70% believe God played a part in creation.

And if one reads US American creationist websites, or watches the vids, it's easy to see why that 30% of the population are the same people as Trumps core. Because the mental gymnastics needed to maintain that 6 day creation thing is astounding. They are trained by their Pastors that what their eyes see is fake, that what they hear is lies, "IT'S SATAN TEMPTING YOU"

It's not a case of Truth. There is only one truth for them. That God did it in 6 days.

When that is the foundation of your world view, covering your eyes and yelling " LA LA LA LA " is not only easy, it's essential.

Guns, God an Abortion. The Holy Trinity of US politics. And Trump cracked it.

The number of people losing their minds about Trump, still listen to The Rest is Politics as if one of them isn't a war criminal, had and have nothing to say about Obama in Libya in 2011 or illegal drone strikes. But orange man bad. Its all bad, but it's just the double standards which expose just how effective propaganda actually is.

I've heard the Venezuelans are relieved someone is finally helping them

If he is helping them why is he not restoring their democratic rights and allowing them to choose their own government?

No, the whole country is reaping what part of it has sowed, just like the whole UK (and Europe) is reaping what the Leavers sowed. Some of us do vote for gun control, abortion rights, healthcare benefits, vaccines and candidates like Mamdani. Unfortunately, between gerrymandering, an antiquated electoral system, a judiciously stacked Supreme Court and a media ecosystem now almost wholly owned by billionaires, we now have a system where a minority of the country has a disproportionate amount of power over the majority. Plus the fact that the Republican controlled house and senate have decided to cede their roles of acting as a check on presidential authority. This republican congress has the ability to stop almost everything this White House is doing, should they choose to exercise their constitutional power. They choose not to.

I don't think the candidates are necessarily dire, but I do think the Democrats rig the system in a way that rewards establishment candidates and doesn't necessarily foster great young political talent, and there should be some serious reform. There are some interesting people to watch out for in 2028 - Wes Moore, Chris Murphy, Mark Kelly, Josh Shapiro, AOC. It's not like we're swimming in great choices here in the UK - Starmer, Badenoch, Davey, Farage, not exactly inspiring. I like Polanski, but don't think the Greens are serious contenders.

And, yes, I agree about what he's doing to the rest of the world.

Edited

No you are reaping what you sow. There arent enough of you that care enough about the things I mention to prioritise them. And you've mentioned even more things (eg rigged judicial system). Not enough of you care enough to stop it happening and we all suffer as a result
Yes the UK is in danger of going the same way

Boomer55 · 05/01/2026 09:11

He’s talking about taking over Greenland now, using troops, just because he wants it. 🤷‍♀️
