But how do you clean your sofa?

We have a dark cream ish sofa that i’m finding i’m having to take all the covers off the whole thing and wash on a regular basis and it’s a pain in the arse.
Arm rests parts get a bit dirty/grubby and seat covers have water stains etc
Have a dog and young Dc, chuck lots of throws over, but still no good

What fabric is it? I use a steam cleaner on mine

TeenToTwenties · 03/01/2026 17:02

I have a sensible colour and occasionally hoover it.

Not sure, like a linen sort of?

It’s not white or cream cream, so fairly sensible, hoovering wouldn’t do it

Put throws on it. They are much easier to wash

itsthetea · 03/01/2026 17:39

Leather is easier , darker colours are easier , not letting people eat or drink on the sofa might help , as would taking your glasses off when you look at it because pets and small kids and cream don’t go

Safxxx · 03/01/2026 17:40

We got dark brown leather sofas, i use warm water and soap to wipe them down then use some leather cleaner to polish it up. In winter I use throws over them.

raspberrieswithchocolate · 03/01/2026 18:40

I have a similar colour sofa, it's sort of a beige fabric. My dog is always on it and children. Despite that it looks new because I always have throws on it and wash them weekly. So much easier than trying to clean the sofa.

3luckystars · 03/01/2026 18:42

Sensible 😂

TheGoodOnesAreAllGone · 03/01/2026 18:42

I've had ours professionally cleaned when we had our carpets cleaned as it's a fabric sofa

raspberrieswithchocolate · 03/01/2026 18:51

Sorry OP, have just seen that you use throws but they're not working, why don't they work? I tuck mine in a bit so they stay in place and don't get pulled off easily.

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 03/01/2026 18:52

Yes and have also got it professionally done.

But dark cream is a recipe for trouble so I'd change that.

I previously had a large dark brown/black leather sofa but it’s so outdated, it’s not exactly cream, can’t really explain the colour, not super light, these stains would show on any aside from black probably

A highly energetic dd and dog 😂

Dr Beckmann and a steam cleaner! Works wonders, 2 kids a dog & a cat and they look brand new. We don’t use throws (the dog isn’t allowed on the sofa to be fair though) but we do also take the covers off for a proper wash at least every few months

😁Sorry, I'm not sure what to suggest then!
My dog used to love digging up the throws but she's older now and has calmed down a lot.

Think the clue here is dog and Dc ?

Potatoelephant · 03/01/2026 19:48

Throws never worked for us either. I got elastic cushion covers from Amazon. Stay in place and take them off once a week to wash

Should I get rid of them 😅

Leather sofas are timeless tbh . Not
sure why you think they’re dated . And also very easy to clean !

Of course not, but maybe monitor them a bit better ?

StCuntyMcCunterson · 03/01/2026 22:09

I’ve given up. I’ve used sprays, mouses, pink stuff, soap and water. I just have a throw over the arms and bottoms. I wash them very often and the arms are disgusting underneath.

What? Spills and dirt happen in houses with people living there, I’m not going to monitor people just living, it’s natural

Same, nothing really works aside from taking the whole thing off-bottom section with arm rest parts, cushion covers etc, it’s just such a faff
