Anyone who thinks this is going to work out well, just hasn’t learnt from history. America is very good at starting things, not so good at seeing them through or finishing them well.

Absolutely. They get what they want and then leave!

Say what you want about Trump, but he certainly gets stuff done. He doesn't just talk vaguely about how how something needs to be done, he sends the military in and does it. Our own PM could learn something from that, but won't.

Just like murderous dictators always do. And that’s good how? Trump has now greenlighted every other dictator who wants to do the same.

I don’t get my sense of self worth from debating random middle aged women on MN. I don’t know enough about geopolitical situation in Venezuela to make educated comment (nor do most) however I was pointing out that a cursory glance at the reaction of the people of Venezuela should hopefully be a simple enough indication that your bitter and twisted hate for Trump is clouding your judgement re a very obvious fact this was a fantastic move. Zero civilian lives lost all USA military personnel unharmed it was a fantastic operation.

He will be murdered eventually, or end his days in prison (hopefully a Mexican or Venezuelan one), and though I'm not a violent person, I will celebrate his death and/or demise. He's a dangerous idiot.

Wow 😮

Getting rid of a tyrant is no good unless he is replaced - quickly - with someone better. Which requires the people taking over to be intelligent, well-intentioned and well-organised.

Yes. And the people of Iraq would probably agree with you too.

It is not about Venezuela. A country whichTrump cares not a jot for. The issue here is that the most powerful country in the world has illegally invaded a sovereign nation and kidnapped its leader.

The post WW2 rules based order is now over.

Anyone cheering that is as stupid as it is possible to be

The most powerful country in the world helped Venezuela people yesterday get rid of their illegitimate president. It also happens that Maduro sent terrorists and criminals to the US like train de Aragua that made a lot of trouble and also trafficking of drugs. Venezuelan people inside and outside Venezuela are welcoming this. This is also to do as how Venezuela was harbouring terrorists organisations inside Venezuela. The US will help with the transition to ensure they are all out. Of course there is interest in oil. The regime members got very rich since Chavez got to power. Everything was stolen and not re distributed. As per socialism ideals. The only people making millions were the ones siding with the regime. Good riddance to Maduro.

dottiehens · 04/01/2026 08:58

Maduro had only 30 percent of the support in the last elections. He kidnapped Venezuela as a country, killed people either by starvation or oppression while siding with the worse regimes in the world.

It doesn't matter if Trump didn't do it for the good of Venezuelans. If it will be good for the people of Venezuela it will good for them, Regardless of the reasons "why".

Why then is Colombia strengthening security along its border with VZ in anticipation of an influx of refugees?

Given your assumption that you know the age of other posters, I suspect that this statement could be expanded beyond Venezuela.

Yes, you are on and on about this. Trump has clarified in the press conference that Delcy R following the law I’d the interim president. The US will be collaborating with the transition. Delcy Rodriguez probably will get amnesty and will live abroad as well as other bad actors of the regime. She probably sold Maduro. Who knows?. Maduro had 50 Millions for his capture on him. Details will come up during the transition. Maria Corina and Edmundo have welcome the news. I feel it would have been worse if they killed all of them. Maduro will come forward to incriminate the rest of them. It is not an easy situation to untangled after 27 years of being in power.

Please don’t tell me you’ve fallen for the Tren de Aragua line. Let’s look at the facts.

Tren de Aragua - 7,000 members, from a country that is not supplying most of the drugs to the US

Los Zetas - 20k to 50K members, supplying fentanyl which Trump claims to be SO against, and is the leading cause of drug death in the US.

So Trump invaded Mexico, right?

(sources: Wikipedia pages on each)

And we can’t really trust any source on Tren de Aragua members. The US claimed a man’s autism tattoo was a gang tattoo and sent him to CECOT in El Salvador. He actually survived and made it home. How many more innocent men didn’t?

If you support Trump, you support illegal military action, kidnapping, and murder. That’s all there is to it. All this so the Epstein files won’t come out, and America can have oil.

Fine you are entitled to your opinion. May be you should check the facts yourself. Mexico is not under a dictatorship afaik. This is about liberating Venezuela,

You edited after I replied and added the part about Mexico and Venezuela. Tell me, if it’s about “liberating” Venezuela, why is Trump installing Maduro’s second-in-command in power? Doesn’t sound like liberation to me. AND he’s denying the opposition leader, who has a 72% approval rating.
For sources, see my last several comments. I’m getting sick to death of people “arguing” from a base of either lies or nothing, so maybe enough MN for me today.

EDIT: I haven’t seen such a bad faith, goal changing argument in a while though. You: “You should check the facts!” Me: “I gave you sources for the facts.” You: “… get out of the MN echo chamber!” Way to argue against those facts. No point in arguing with someone who is posting in bad faith.

What part of transition you do not get. Plus, how do think Venezuelans could have been liberated. Do you even care? I think you just do not.

Petro is left wing and not a Maduro supporter or ally. I am aware that he has been accused of being pro Maduro (which he has denied). He has chosen to take a nuanced, non-confrontionalist approach.

We will still need oil and natural gas.

And Trump et al will definitely curate the reserves mindfully with climate harm reduction in mind 🤔
