What's it like abroad ? Never been before, so want to make the effort this year to go abroad. What's it like ?

It is going to depend on where you go. Some places will seem pretty similar to the UK and others will be wildly different. Where do you want to travel to?

PhantomAfternoonTea · 02/01/2026 13:42

It's full of dragons. Stay at home.

didntlikeanyofthesuggestions · 02/01/2026 13:42

Magical. Abroad people are all friendly, abroad food is all delicious and abroad is lovely and safe. Some of my happiest memories have been abroad.

Overthebow · 02/01/2026 13:43

Depends where you go, there’s so many places you could choose and they’re all different.

Thought they were all the same ?

Sorry I don’t mean to be flippant but it all depends on where you want to go and what type of holiday you’re looking for. Some places are lively, some are very quiet. If you can be a bit more specific you’ll get better advice.

Branleuse · 02/01/2026 13:44

It's brilliant abroad. You'll love it. They do speak funny though and the food is obviously weird.

Shouldn't you be getting your uniform ready for back to school on Monday, OP?

VickyEadieofThigh · 02/01/2026 13:48

Edit. Double post.

Can you get chips ?

Sadly no. Chips are only available in the UK. Most Brits put some in their suitcase when they travel to Abroad.

Justlostmybagel · 02/01/2026 13:49

I think you'd suit benidorm, op.

Chips with mayonnaise is the best thing about abroad!

joeninetey · 02/01/2026 13:47

Can you get chips ?

Yes but you have to ask for them in English, very slowly and extremely loudly.

youalright · 02/01/2026 13:52

Book a flight to benidorm its currently there summer now you will have a great time and pack a few bags of frozen chips and they will cook them for you

vodkaredbullgirl · 02/01/2026 13:54

Personally I make sure to pack the deep fat fryer in our hand luggage. That way I can get it out on the plane and start cooking chips again. Really calms my nerves.

OP- if you wish to do this, remember that the British socket only works to the edge of our airspace. You then need to plug your deep fat fryer into the abroad socket. You will need an abroad adapter for this- I can't stress that enough.

I forgot once and had to tip all the hot fat out of the window of the aeroplane. What a waste, plus it hit a seagull!
