Wolfpa · 01/01/2026 19:36

75

WouldYouRetire · 01/01/2026 19:38

80+

Chasingsquirrels · 01/01/2026 19:38

Gut says 70.

But 65+ isn't "young"

Youdontseehow · 01/01/2026 19:38

80 plus.

when prince Philip died, one of my DD’s friends posted “gone too soon” on her social media about it and she wasn’t being sarky!

Grumblies · 01/01/2026 19:39

I'd say 80+

Hagnumber4 · 01/01/2026 19:39

Id say 75

HelpMebeok · 01/01/2026 19:40

My dad died at 64 and that felt very young. I would say 80+.

RedPurpleyBlue · 01/01/2026 19:41

I had a relative pass recently at the age of 66 and that felt very young.

I would say 75+

LlynTegid · 01/01/2026 19:41

I agree with you OP with 80.

Starseeking · 01/01/2026 19:42

Anything below 80, I feel like you’ve gone before your time.

Edited

65 is not even state pension age

therewasafishinthepercolator · 01/01/2026 19:42

I'd say 80s + too. But thats subject to change.

Years ago I might have said mid 70s onwards but my mum is 72 (stage 4 lung cancer) and dad is 75. I don't see either of them as old or near 'their time'.

My dad is the most capable person I know. My go-to. Fixed my central heating yesterday.

PumpkinScarf · 01/01/2026 19:43

80

ShesTheAlbatross · 01/01/2026 19:43

75ish maybe.

Average life expectancy is 83 for women, 79 for men, so 5-10 years before average seems like where I’d put “young to die”.

MrsWOLF1 · 01/01/2026 19:44

80 plus

FFSToEverythingSince2020 · 01/01/2026 19:44

I feel like 75 is the point where people stop asking what someone has died of, and just assume it’s somehow old-age related. As for gone too soon… some people wish they could check out at 35, and some aren’t close to done at 93.

But it still isn't "young".

My late-DH was 58 when he died, that felt like dying younger than expected. But not dying young, which would be 40's and earlier to me.

Newsenmum · 01/01/2026 19:44

Probably 80.

I know 65+ isnt young but with modern medicine and good health it seems young to die. My mum is 70 and she’s extremely fit and healthy, takes no medication, exercises daily. Id be very shocked and upset if she just died. Im less healthy than her!

Sasgatchewyn · 01/01/2026 19:45

I'd say 75.

Periperi2025 · 01/01/2026 19:45

State pension age.

Cienna · 01/01/2026 19:46

60-70+

nondrinker1985 · 01/01/2026 19:46

My Dad was 46 that was so young I feel now anything below 85 is young.

Moveoverdarlin · 01/01/2026 19:46

80

Chasingsquirrels · 01/01/2026 19:46

Actually, "dying young" and "dying earlier than you'd expect" are really 2 different questions.

The OP was "dying young", but most people (and I) are probably answering "dying earlier than you'd expect".

Happytap · 01/01/2026 19:47

80 onwards I'd say, although I'd like to see my 90s please!
