Crackers always seem to crack in the wrong place dont they?

A smidgen of cherry tomato, a bit of chutney, a nice bit of cheese, perhaps a slice of olive or so, perhaps a sliver of smoked salmon.... all down my front, every time

Why cant a cracker just crack where I put my teeth in it?

Perhaps there should be national standards to cracker recipes to avoid disasters like this?

Totally agree, and this has been one of our biggest dilemma’s this Christmas as our toddler simply will not eat one if it’s cracked incorrectly and requires a new one each time. I’ll sign the petition!

Arlanymor · 01/01/2026 14:18

It wouldn't kill them to put perforation marks in would it - so as to undermine the structure of the cracker so that it cracked in the correct places? Also if they made them visible you could put the toppings on accordingly - maybe a big cross and then you could put four toppings (ooh pizza meets cracker!) into the designated areas? I am totally with you on this. Plus I am pleasingly endowed with a 'chest shelf' so when toppings drop it practically takes an archaeology degree to retrieve them...

Brilliant practical suggestions here.

I have noted these down and this will go in my manifesto.

I sometimes score them with a knife and then they do break along the line.

A long time ago Co-op crackers used to have perforations to break them into four. However I don't expect that feature will be reintroduced today, as some woke group will say it too divisive.

Did they? I never knew this. But as my local Co-Op is so expensive I only ever go there when I've run out of wine and it's the only place open.

JustWantsSomeSleep · 01/01/2026 14:43

Buy smaller crackers.

4babiesforever · 01/01/2026 14:56

Yeh this is why I like to buy the mini ritz. :)

Right?! Plus it's victim-blaming...

TheNightingalesStarling · 01/01/2026 15:02

Please tell me I wasn't the only expecting this to be about the crackers you pull not the ones you eat.

I can start a thread about that if you like. I have lots of gripes in life.

No, no, no, no, no. Proper crackers aren't pretend-cheese flavoured, it's the toppings that bring them alive. Do not pass Go. Do not collect £200. Do not buy claggy, crappy Ritz! My lovely ex had a massive thing for Cheez Its - I never understood it, I may have unresolved cheese-flavoured cracker issues.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 01/01/2026 15:04

YANBU. Crackers always break in the wrong bloody place leaving you with a morsel or a gobful.

The only solution is to break them up THEN put whatever topping on them, because the buggers just can’t be trusted to break evenly.

Cornish Wafers have perforations, but they are so yummy I don't bother with toppings. I love trying to bite along the lines.

I think I would like to bunny-rabbit nibble along lines too!

Hosoan · 01/01/2026 15:29

Yes! I love me a cream cracker or four with a nice tasty cheddar and some chutney but those invisible fault lines are buggers

soupyspoon · 01/01/2026 16:05

Well so far in the voting several people think Im being unreasonable

They will be subject to the cracker inquisition. They wont be expecting it.

The selection box of crackers did not have butter puffs. Despite a picture of a butter puff. I was very disappointed.

Our weapons are fear, surprise, ruthless efficiency and onion chutney.

rightoguvnor · 01/01/2026 16:16

At first I thought you were talking about Xmas crackers, the pulling sort. I was coming on to say yes they were rubbish this year despite saying luxury on the box.
But now I see you are discussing crackery crackers and I still have an opinion to give. They are not as crackery as they used to be, more snappery and also the Cornish water wafers are not quite right anymore.
