To me it signals back to work. Another year over.

It’s a bank holiday so not back to work for most people.

Time to reflect, time to renew. Another year over- his are you going to make the next one better, healthier, more interesting? It’s a new diary to fill.

ManyPigeons · 01/01/2026 00:04

NYD isn’t generally a big deal… New Years Eve is the big day and NYD is hangover day for anyone who went big and just a nice day off for everyone else.

We always celebrate New Year’s Day- round off Xmas and the start of a new year. I find it quite refreshing and positive.

I struggle with Xmas tho so not sure if it’s relief that I’ve survived another one!

tattime · 01/01/2026 01:45

parkrun for us 🙂

Vivisays · 01/01/2026 01:49

Make of it what you will. You’re not a sheep. Make your own traditions.

Ihad2Strokes · 01/01/2026 01:54

I had the strokes early January 2025, so I'll be glad to get past that date, surviving the first year without another stroke feels significant (& scary until it's past the date).

previously I'd have been enjoying the day. Something so nice & fresh about a New Year.

this year just feels like 'oh fuck. Another year if this shit'

make the most of your health & your 'ability' it really can all just change overnight

Ohdearinthedoghouseagain · 01/01/2026 01:55

Try it being your birthday too! Really is meh!

oh that sucks. I'm glad I escaped by 4 pm the day before!! was due Xmas day and always wished I was the first baby os 1982 (the new babies always used to go on telly the next year) but in hindsight I'm glad I didnt

feathers7 · 01/01/2026 02:14

I have only ever thought of new year as a new year, never as another year done.

Happy Birthday!! 🎂 ✨🥳🙆‍♀️!! Hope you have a non- Meh Day to kick the year off!!

IndigoIsMyFavouriteColour · 01/01/2026 02:22

We had a really nice New Year’s Eve so looking forward to a chilled day tomorrow and a beef roast which husband is cooking! I like New Year’s Day

Rocknrollstar · 01/01/2026 06:22

Family is coming over for a buffet lunch. A time to be together. We’ve done quite a lot of socialising over the last two weeks so time with just close family will be good.

DemonsandMosquitoes · 01/01/2026 07:42

The darts is usually really good by this point. Tree stays up until after the final. Some good matches today!

EleanorReally · 01/01/2026 07:46

i went to bed far too late and was woken up after 4 hours
cleaned up dog's poo in the house
meh indeed
and it is cold
i am not keen on my new tea bags which is very disappointing.
looking forward to a nice coffee now

HowAboutNowJane · 01/01/2026 07:52

Call me tragic but I have plans for spring cleaning today, now the last of the relatives have left and before I have to go back to work.

PersephoneParlormaid · 01/01/2026 07:54

It’s just a boring day to get through for me, although I’ll be taking any left over decorations down. I’ve never seen the attraction of NYE.

X123x321X · 01/01/2026 07:58

I usually ignore it. This year I feel relieved that all the Christmas stuff is done and I can get back to normal. I look forward to the longer days and springtime.

Edit: I'm also looking forward to turning 60. I'm going to embrace it.

stolenpromises · 01/01/2026 08:00

I am not a new year fan at all. I am in bed currently with a coffee and will try and enjoy today and tomorrow (we are in Scotland so get an extra bank holiday) and then through the eleventybillion days that are January. Decorations came down a few days ago so really we are just back to the usual routine.

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 01/01/2026 08:00

For most Scottish people it’s a day with family and friends eating homemade steak pie and mushy peas.

and edit to say homemade Scottish broth.

piscofrisco · 01/01/2026 08:02

Nice to have a nice dinner in New Year’s Day I always think. Then it really is back to it. But there is zero pressure to do anything at all really.
