NYE - PITA

sashaymashay · 31/12/2025 14:42

Not a serious thread but is anyone else not doing anything for NYE.

AIBU to think that NYE is a PITA and staying in is the new going out.

This will be my 69th New Year.I've done with all the parties, singing Auld Lang Syne with the neighbours in the middle of the street, walking miles home at 2am in the freezing cold wearing silly shoes while trying to flag down taxis etc etc....I'm off to bed at the normal time tonight. Happy New Year all.Blwyddyn Newydd Dda!😃

wordywitch · 31/12/2025 17:56

I haven’t gone out on NYE since 2017 and am feeling rather annoyed with myself that I agreed to go to a friend’s party this year. It’s a 40 minute drive, it’s fancy dress, and it’s bloody freezing out. I also don’t drink and will be the driver home. I’m having serious DOGO (dread of going out) right now.

Sortalike · 31/12/2025 17:58

DH and I are feasting on M&S Chinese, DD wanted Macaroni Cheese, None of us is feeling great, so we're all showered and in our pj's. (isn't even 6 o'clock 😳)

Dog is jumpy already - fireworks already going off so one of us will stay up with him until midnight.

The days of partying into the wee small hours are long gone for us!

grinchmcgrinchface · 31/12/2025 18:04

We’re just chilling with a chinese tonight. Smile Not a big NYE person.

TidyCyan · 31/12/2025 18:09

Once DS is in bed it'll be me, DH, a bottle of something fizzy and a Charlie Bighams curry.

UniquePinkSwan · 31/12/2025 18:11

I miss NYE in Scotland. Since moving to England it’s boring

Aparecium · 31/12/2025 18:16

DH and I are also staying in. We went to the supermarket earlier, and each chose the takeaway we fancied. We've got something nice to drink, and we will watch something on TV that we missed at the cinema this year. Question is, what shall we watch?

miamo12 · 31/12/2025 18:18

We stay local, we had 8 options within 15 minutes walk.

miamo12 · 31/12/2025 18:24

@SearchingFirst I think small town living comes into its own at this time of year. I cant imagine living somewhere you need a taxi to go out now though to be fair to the bus company there’s buses until 10pm at least

pictoosh · 31/12/2025 18:27

Yup, staying in and happy to be doing so.
Will venture out tomorrow for a New Year hike followed by a steak pie at home.

Seeing pals for a drink on the 2nd. In someone's house. Grand. Xx

Used to love Hogmanay with random people coming to the door or raking around the town, rolling home at 4am.

Far too old for that sort of shenanigans now!

MarvellousMonsters · 31/12/2025 18:29

I absolutely can’t be arsed. I never liked going out for new years even when I was younger. Happily nestled on my sofa with the dog, who luckily isn’t phased by the fireworks that have already started Angry

Littletinytarzanswingingfromanosehair · 31/12/2025 18:30

I used to love NYE as it also brings in my birthday but nowadays Im in bed for 10pm.
Restaurants do set dinners that cost the earth, so many pubs charge to get in, you need tickets for everywhere. It's £££. After the Christmas week itself its hard to justify the cost.

Nothing better now than chilling, eating tapas and feeling cosy.

Even our DC's 18, 21 & 24 have no desire to go out.
DD 18, is going to the pub for a couple and then home for a takeaway with Bf.

Maybe times are changing?

Anyhoo, happy new year all, I hope 2026 brings you all the best xx

Mermaidsarereal · 31/12/2025 18:32

We are doing nothing also - takeaway ordered, may have a few glasses of fizz but at the moment I've been nodding off on the sofa after eating too many Ferrero Rocher!

Topseyt123 · 31/12/2025 18:39

Just got back from visiting my mother for a couple of days so I am certainly not going out again.

I'm another who can't remember the last time we celebrated New Year and that's how we like it. We may watch a film or two, and have a glass of wine 🍷 but that's it. We'll be in bed soon after midnight, if I haven't actually fallen asleep in my chair beforehand anyway.

New Year is way overrated. I am not a party animal and prefer being a boring old fart.

Toastandjam16 · 31/12/2025 18:40

Judellie · 31/12/2025 16:35

For the first time in YEARS I am planning to be asleep at midnight as my daughter is staying over at her friend's house and I don't have to pick her up til tomorrow morning.
This is a fab birthday present to myself as I have the misfortune of having my birthday on 31 December.

Happy birthday @Judellie ! 🎂🥳 but also 😴

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 31/12/2025 18:44

TheeNotoriousPIG · 31/12/2025 18:49

I live miles out in the countryside. Hopefully, I won't be able to hear the fireworks from the nearest town. I need to be in bed at a reasonable hour, as I'm up early to milk the cows again in the morning!

Enjoy your nights in, everyone!

Tana433 · 31/12/2025 16:07

Staying in and having a beige buffet! Daughters here for a few days and is wanting to watch Mrs Brown's Boys later so i will be making sure i have enough vodka to get through that (probably not enough vodka in the world quite honestly!) will probably stick my headphones on and listen to an audiobook whilst she watches that and then Ronan is on later for the New Year Eve celebrations so i'll definitely stay up for that!

I think you’ll find Mrs BB’s is tomorrow as I heard Dd discussing it friends earlier before heading out

MCF86 · 31/12/2025 18:54

I used to go out to my (then) local 15-20 years ago, when I was young and carefree and a regular so knew everyone else there. Then it was a great night because everyone was guaranteed to be out and there wasn't anyone who wasn't a regular so it was a really "feel good" atmosphere, and I could walk home.

But I was also in my early 20s, and now my priorities are being warm and comfortable and not surrounded by drunk people. In fact I generally I don't want to go anywhere if I'm not guaranteed a table, and even then it's probably not going to be worth the effort of getting home 😂

DC is with dad, I'm home along with a couple of beers and a cheese board and I am not sad about it!

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 31/12/2025 18:54

As a child/young teen NYE was as much fun as Christmas. We would go to my parents' friend and her parents. My best friend and her family would also go, along with other spare people - maybe 15 people squeezed into the sitting room in a tiny cottage.

No party I have ever attended as an adult has been able to compare with those nights. They followed a strict routine - dinner around the dining table with crackers and Christmas cake. Then we children would help with the clear up followed by the trip to the toilet at the bottom of the garden, After dinner we would play games until midnight when we kids would stand in wait in the dining room watching the countdown on tv and then rush in to tell the adults the New Year had arrived.

It was so simple yet the excitement of those NYE parties are such a tough experience to beat.

Jinglejells · 31/12/2025 19:06

Definitely. Everyone I know is staying in. We are watching movies, relaxing and I wouldn’t have it any other way. No desire to go out see friends etc.

Nearlyadoctor · 31/12/2025 18:51

Thankyou, i thought that but apparently she hasnt seen the Christmas day one either so she will watch that tonight ready for the second part tomorrow!! Happy New Year to me!!

RaraRachael · 31/12/2025 19:17

Thankfully our neighbours have cancelled their fireworks so I will go to bed just after midnight and the cat won't be scared half to death.

MeinKraft · 31/12/2025 19:25

NYE makes me very nostalgic and emotional! I prefer the spring high days, valentine’s day, Easter and pancake tuesday don’t have this effect 😄
