NYE - PITA

Not a serious thread but is anyone else not doing anything for NYE.

AIBU to think that NYE is a PITA and staying in is the new going out.

I haven’t been out for NYE since the millennium. I cannot be arsed with it. I’m in London, can see the fireworks from my window if I’m still awake. I’m just totally not be bothered with it.

myhaggisblewup · 31/12/2025 15:33

As pagans we celebrate our new year on oct 31st so already 2 months into new starts 😀
Therefore today isn't anything to us, but wouldn't bother celebrating anyway.

devildeepbluesea · 31/12/2025 15:33

I love going out, really enjoy socialising but NYE can get in the bin. I’ll be in bed by 9pm and I’d have it no other way.

Lulu1919 · 31/12/2025 15:36

Not going out
Not entertaining
Not staying up

Lol

Rocketpants50 · 31/12/2025 15:37

Am quite looking forward to reading my book, probably will fall asleep by midnight. Though will be required at some point to go out and pick up teens who will be enjoying NY. Am quite glad I dont have to go and 'enjoy' NY.

travelforthesoul · 31/12/2025 15:37

we are going to a friends house who host a NYE paty - but we leave after the bells and are home for 1ish. Its good fun, starts early, finishes early and im ok for the next day (mostly). Also in Scotland - but many NYE have been quiet and we have gone to bed early.

Sharpzebra · 31/12/2025 15:38

Haven't been out for nye in many years now and can't be bothered either sofa at home couple of glasses of wine 🍷 and watch some TV then bed I will probably hear the fireworks because their always relentless here and will start about 11pm and go on until 1am like usual

Owly11 · 31/12/2025 15:38

Haven't enjoyed NYE since i was 17. I always like to be up early and out somewhere on New Year's day, starting the new year feeling full of energy.

EveryKneeShallBow · 31/12/2025 15:51

Haven’t celebrated NYE since 1996. No plans to change that this year.

Tana433 · 31/12/2025 16:07

Staying in and having a beige buffet! Daughters here for a few days and is wanting to watch Mrs Brown's Boys later so i will be making sure i have enough vodka to get through that (probably not enough vodka in the world quite honestly!) will probably stick my headphones on and listen to an audiobook whilst she watches that and then Ronan is on later for the New Year Eve celebrations so i'll definitely stay up for that!

I gave up the faux jollity years ago. Much less aggro to stay indoors.👍

Maryberrysbouffant · 31/12/2025 16:17

Can’t remember the last time we went out in the evening on NYE.

We started going out for a good walk and pub lunch in the afternoon on NYE then staying in on the night for cheese and wine and it’s become a bit of a tradition.

InMyOpenOnion · 31/12/2025 16:19

I don't do New Year's Eve. I host a lot over Christmas and just never fancy going out a couple of days after all the mayhem has died down. We stay up but that's only because the fireworks round here wake us up anyway and I like to calm my cats during all the noise.

Odiebay · 31/12/2025 16:20

Can't stand new year. My plan was face masks, hot choc, everything shower and in bed by 10.30 reading my book but in-laws have decided to come 🙃 so il do the performative stuff and at 12.10 il be going to bed.

jemim · 31/12/2025 16:22

I felt a bit guilty/FOMO that we had no plans, until basically everyone I have spoken to (maybe 10 or so) in the past couple of days have all said they don’t care and will be asleep by 10pm. Which makes me feel better that I will also.

We had an afternoon stroll along the harbour and saw loads of people heading out for the night. I felt relieved to be heading back home to joggers and chocolate in front of the tv.

Ginmonkeyagain · 31/12/2025 16:24

My friend, I NEVER go out on amateurs night, the very thought!

77Fee · 31/12/2025 16:31

I'm in Edinburgh so looked at the price for a ticket to the Princes Street concert (wet leg if anyone's interested). £72 a ticket for standing room only. Tickets still available .... not a surprise at that price.

I was not tempted.

SearchingFirst · 31/12/2025 16:34

NYE is a fantastic community time in the small city where I am.

Indie pubs and restaurants to wander an event in a tipi and fireworks over the market square. Children included. We all head off home on foot afterwards, chatting as we walk.

Love the togetherness.

Glittertwins · 31/12/2025 16:34

I don’t really bother with it, never have. I doubt I’ll even still be awake at midnight!

Judellie · 31/12/2025 16:35

For the first time in YEARS I am planning to be asleep at midnight as my daughter is staying over at her friend's house and I don't have to pick her up til tomorrow morning.
This is a fab birthday present to myself as I have the misfortune of having my birthday on 31 December.

MoonWoman69 · 31/12/2025 16:37

I have left my husband with the cats and come over to stay with my bestie, armed with 2 bottles of champagne and a Morello cherry pie and cream. She's made lasagne and garlic bread. We shall find a film to watch till Jools starts and see the New Year in together! It was either that or sit downstairs on my own, while he watches shite westerns on TV upstairs! Happy New Year all 🎉🎊🍾🥂

Hankunamatata · 31/12/2025 16:38

Usually do nothing but kids are teens now and want to make fun for them

Luckyingame · 31/12/2025 16:46

MildlyAnnoyed · 31/12/2025 14:53

I’m not going out & haven’t for about 20 years. I can’t think of anything worse than strangers wanting to make some sort of contact in the way of saying ‘happy new year’ 🙄

Doing nothing and very satisfied! 😁

Snoken · 31/12/2025 16:49

I went for a late wine-filled lunch with some friends, now I will stay in and hold my dog's paw for the evening. It's just what suited me the best this year.
