NYE - PITA

sashaymashay · 31/12/2025 14:42

Not a serious thread but is anyone else not doing anything for NYE.

AIBU to think that NYE is a PITA and staying in is the new going out.

I've worked today & chock full of cold so didn't sleep well. So remains to be seen if I make it to the bells.

I've seen 45 new years, I dont mind sleeping through a few.

For the first time in YEARS I am planning to be asleep at midnight as my daughter is staying over at her friend's house and I don't have to pick her up til tomorrow morning.
This is a fab birthday present to myself as I have the misfortune of having my birthday on 31 December.

Happy birthday!!! Enjoy the peace and quiet x

I’ve actually had to take myself to bed as I’m spiralling. We are due to go to friends later and I just can’t face it, we are living with cancer, a child with special needs and usual life stresses and it just makes me want to curl in a ball and hide.
I hate the expectations of New Year, the anxiety around what’s to come. It’s a very lonely feeling as you know you are unreasonable, tomorrow will dawn exactly the same way it would have done in 2025 and we will get through each trial and celebrate each success but something about NYE just causes absolute overwhelm for me.

I am staying in tonight with no FOMO at all. £35 uber each way (plus surge pricing), everywhere overcrowded, full of teens and people getting aggy because they’ve drunk too much. I used to like it in my 20s but a hot chocolate and book is calling me. I am hoping for 2026 to be a calm and positive year so I will meditate at midnight (never ever thought I would be this person!!)

I never really do anything and am often in bed for the bells.

Staying up to watch Stranger Things tonight though.

Staying up for the bells but then getting up to watch Stranger Things first thing NYD.

WonderfulSmith · 31/12/2025 17:11

We aren’t nothing this year. Usually we go to friends but I’m just not feeling it this year. The poor cat hates fireworks and it’s like a recreation of the Somme at midnight.

canuckup · 31/12/2025 17:11

Total waste of time

CharlotteStreetW1 · 31/12/2025 17:12

I'm not anti-celebrating NYE but we're staying in with a nice dinner and a bottle of cava. I will feel smug waking up with a relatively clear head tomorrow. I'm done with pubs on NYE. You're clock-watching from about 10.30, midnight comes and it's a mass snog and then home. But I'd love to go to a big glitzy dinner-dance affair just once. Or next year, maybe we'll host a get-together...

Andsoitbeganagain · 31/12/2025 17:28

Not doing anything and delighted about it. I might be up at the bells or I might be fast asleep. Judging by the TV offerings, almost certainly the latter but I've never liked new years eve. Tomorrow is a different kettle of fish though. I love the newness of 1 January. Roll on 2026.

Newyearawaits · 31/12/2025 14:45

100pc agree and I am not going to stay up especially to see the NY in.
People can call me a killjoy but I am dealing with so much emotional pain that sleep is the only way to block it off

I agree with you. 1st time in 29 years with out my DH and 1st time in 14 without my lovely dog. Treating it as just another night just to get through.

Londonrach1 · 31/12/2025 17:33

No one I know has doing anything if you believe what everyone is doing on what app. I'm looking forward to some cava, smoked salmon little things (was half price in tesco) and an early bed...with inlaws and family and we all plan to be in bed early. I'm sure people in that teens and twenty's are doing something.

I’ve always stayed up as my bday is just after midnight x

RaraRachael · 31/12/2025 17:40

Can't be arsed with it at all. Don't drink and hate socialising. Plus neighbours let off fireworks that sound like mortars going off and terrify the cat.

Mikart · 31/12/2025 17:41

We've had 2 bottles of cremant this afternoon and will be in bed by 9

EmeraldDreams73 · 31/12/2025 17:41

I'm doing nothing at all, my dds are unusually in with me this evening and have no "better offers" for socialising. They're sadder about it than I am but intend to stay up for Stranger Things.

Dh is working this eve, will be home about 10.30 but has to be up at 6 tomorrow for work so won't be staying up to midnight. I'm a night owl so will prob be awake but definitely in bed soon after.

All a big load of nothing to me, glad to see the back of this year. Although I've been saying that every year for about 15 years which is sad. Hoping for a better 2026.

Chinsupmeloves · 31/12/2025 17:43

I've been to many places over the years, in UK and abroad, and usually found NYE a bit of let down. Once you've been in squares shouting and dancing a few times, all fun, it then feels a bit flat. I enjoyed it, especially with family and friends, but now in my 50s and after the mad festivities I prefer to stay home, have a fire in the garden, celebrate the NY then not have to wait for a taxi.

Vargas · 31/12/2025 17:43

Went out for a lovely lunch, now ensconced happily on the sofa with a fire. Will watch a film later while all my dcs head out to various parties and gatherings. Bliss.

NoodleHorses · 31/12/2025 17:44

Midsomer Murders and an early night for me. I already have my phone on Do Not Disturb.

muddyford · 31/12/2025 17:48

WhatsApped my best friend in Sydney at 13.01, so 00.01 in Sydney. That's it for me. So knackered I'll be in bed shortly after 9.00p.m.

Ilovegolf · 31/12/2025 17:48

We are doing nothing. Had quite a busy day today, getting boring house jobs done but I am already on the sofa in my most comfy clothes, with the hounds, glass of fizz in hand, watching the tele. DH is cooking my favourite dinner, we will probably (definitely 🤣) open a second bottle and be asleep well before midnight. Lovely.

mamaduckbone · 31/12/2025 17:48

We’re going to friends’ for dinner but Dh isn’t drinking and is in a maudlin mood (with reason - it’s been a tough year), I’m knackered as I slept really badly, and I’m worrying about 16yo ds who is hoping to get into an event but might not…so yes, I’d be happy to stay at home and go to bed at 9pm this year. We’ll no doubt put our best game faces on and have a nice enough time, but not feeling it at all.

LifeOfBriony · 31/12/2025 17:49

I’ve planned an evening in on my own with the TV and a book. Now one set of neighbours has invited all on our street WhatsApp group to their house. So far, they’ve had two declines and no acceptances. I feel sorry for them now but I so don’t feel like attending.

wannanamechange · 31/12/2025 17:52

We’re having dinner with a few friends but i don’t think I’ll stay out until midnight. I’m happy to fill a hot water bottle and get into bed with a book by 11:30pm.
