Labour Voters. Honest question

I’m not looking to start an argument on this subject. I know it’s a very heated and emotive topic.

I have strong views on political issues. What with algorithms and biased news organisations, it’s very easy to end up only seeing information that confirms what we already believe. Because of that, you don’t often hear the other side of the political divide.

I’m honestly curious whether those who voted Labour at the last General Election, for reference I did not, would vote the same way if there were an early GE in January, purely hypothetical of course.

If so, I’d really appreciate you sharing what you feel they’ve done right so far in their term. I’m asking as I genuinely want to understand different perspectives.

YABU - I would vote labour again
YANBU - I wouldn’t vote for them again (or ever have)

Actually I am going to ask mnhq to remove my post as I don't want to give that particular insinuation any oxygen.

I am sure he does, but that doesn't stop the vicious rubbish that is spread on SM. Dislike the man and his politics, fair enough, but some of what is said is just atrocious.

I do see some nasty and silly stuff about Starmer’s private life on here and, more often, on SM.

But MN has been atrocious for obnoxious crap about Johnson and Sunak. It’s all shameful, whichever party one supports.

Was there?
Do you remember the disgusting comments when Carrie Johnson had their youngest baby? There was an entire thread about her on here.

"who would ever shag Boris. Ewww" I remember that stuff

DeepBlueDeer · 31/12/2025 17:32

I also quite like Rishi Sunak as a person, and thought he did a reasonable job as PM.

I also think May is fundamentally a decent person, but made some really problematic decisions in demonizing immigrants for political gain. To her credit, she's admitted (and says she regrets) at least one of those. Hard to assess her as a PM as the circumstances were extraordinarily difficult.

Cameron was another that I think is a decent person, but (unlike Sunak) a bad PM on the whole.

Johnson and Truss I loathe.

Yes there was.

It was horrible, as was that thread about CJ, if it is the one I am thinking of. There are horrible rumour mongers across the political spectrum. The notion that it is just people on the left is for the birds.

Sorry but the abuse directed at Sunak's wife, even now, eclipses anything directed at Lady Starmer. Much of it started from Starmer himself when Sunak was PM.

Are you excusing it?

No, not excusing anything. Racism should be called out everytime. As does the abuse directed at Starmer's family and friends.

Akshata Murty non dom status, covid businesss loans, father's business interests in the UK are valid to question. Like Sunak's green card he forgot about.

I’m pleased that Rishi and Kemi get a lot of support on other SM.

Labour used what they could to get in, on here by supporters too. It’s a bit late now to lament the level of debate.

Were you adamant Sunak would leave for the US after the GE?

All this ‘regular mn’ stuff idk who you mean but did you object to attacks on Sunak’s wife?

I am obviously not going to name the poster!

As for attacks on Sunak's wife, well I am sorry but I can't remember what I did or did not object to on MN 18 months ago. But if someone had posted similar about Sunak I would have objected.

It is good to hear they receive support especially as the far right are aiming their racism at them. Not British according to Restore Britain and some Reform councillors/candidates.

Badenoch could do with getting a grip on racism in her own party too, see Jenrick, Philps and Lam's deportation plan for example

I didn’t ask you to name anyone but I’ll take that as a no you didn’t, perhaps you contributed?

Labour set the scene on this, got in on the back of it the slurs and attacks. They can’t complain now they have the same. They created it.

Plenty of that about Starmer plus the absolutely vile personal comments about Rayner.

I didn't say it was just people on the left, just to clarify. I don't like it anywhere. Wives and families should be out of bounds imo. The awful stuff about CJ was not confined to that specific thread.

I am pointing out that many think that its fine to throw shit at Sunak and Johnson's wives, and it is rarely called out by those on the left. I've also seen it recently towards Farage's girlfriend.

I don't think it was right of Starmer to go after Sunak because of his wife's non-dom status either. He tried to make a villain of her for political gain.

Female politicians always get a lot of abuse on MN, it always surprises me from a forum for women.

Agreed. There’s a very long history of political name calling on both sides. Apparently it dates back to Roman times. It’s unedifying and childish and neither side can claim the moral high ground. It’s six of one and half dozen of the other.

Did you speak up for Truss, Braverman, Patel or more recently Badenoch?

Did you speak up for Diane Abbott or Angela Rayner? That’s rhetorical, by the way.

EasternStandard · 31/12/2025 17:52

Labour did this, mn included, they’re feeling it now. What a shame.

I criticise their policies without resorting to abuse or namecalling. I will always call out racism or sexism.

Truss was an exception with lettuce.

You? Do you speak up for female labour MP's?

EasternStandard · 31/12/2025 17:55

PandoraSocks · 31/12/2025 17:52

Idk if you feel bad about that question, maybe it makes you think what you’ve added to the debate about female politicians and how Labour are enduring similar.

How shit are labour? They've had 18 months to fix 14 years of the Tories shitting all over the country and they haven't managed it yet.

Indeed. You imagine they'd fix 14 years of corruption and waste in a year, wouldn't you 🤔

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 31/12/2025 17:56

PandoraSocks · 31/12/2025 17:44

Plenty of that about Starmer plus the absolutely vile personal comments about Rayner.

‘Personal comments’ is completely different to scurrilous lies and abuse about private lies.

If you don’t like Badenoch or Davey or Polanski, be rude. That’s fair enough. But attacking Sunak’s wife or circulating bollocks about dodgy loans is wrong.
