I'd go for a lemon meringue or some form of pavlova

umberellaonesie · 29/12/2025 20:18

Waffle berry pudding

For a similar hosting situation I recently made two Nigella London cheesecakes - with rhe advantage of making them the day before. Alternatively, a big batch of homemade brownies, warmed through and served with ice cream.

IwishIwasapigeon · 29/12/2025 20:19

Thanks. Do you have a recipe for these please?

Lemon drizzle cake? Take blueberries to go with it maybe

Take a look! 📌 https://pin.it/7pUf4xVBG

Sticky toffee pud with toffee sauce.

Pre bake the cake part and make the sauce, then in a medium oven for 20-25 mins once you get there with a bit of sauce on top and reheat rest of the sauce,

My favourite recipe is Nigel Slater's one with the sauce from Jamie Oliver's

Biscoff Cheesecake

This impressive Biscoff Cheesecake recipe is creamy and delicious, but needs NO BAKING. A simple and indulgent dessert.

There’s a reason trifle is so popular, very easy to make and tasty! Make it in a giant bowl so you have leftovers!

Fends · 29/12/2025 20:22

Pavlova or trifle

Tigerbalmshark · 29/12/2025 20:22

Trifle, brownies, sponge cake, cheesecake.

JillyGiraffe · 29/12/2025 20:22

This is delicious and very easy!
I only finely grate the lemon for decoration on top of a thicker layer of lemon curd, and use half ginger nuts, half digestives.

Apple crumble / berry crumble with custard and ice cream

If you think pavlova, you could do mini pavs and arrange in a wreath. Decorate with cream and fruit.

Some people like trifle

My Younger Children made this for a Family Christmas event this other year. It was straight-forward and transportable.

Portable pavlova - either make enough small meringues to have two or three each per person or buy meringue nests, take along a decent sized tub of whipped cream (at least a couple of 400ml cartons of cream, whipped to soft peaks, for that many) with a little vanilla and icing sugar whipped into it, macerate some strawberries (slice or chop and sprinkle with a little sugar the day before) and mix in some raspberries and blueberries, plus some flaked almonds (toast them lightly in a dry pan if you have time) and grated chocolate. Compile when you get there.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 29/12/2025 20:27

This Apple tart is nice.

line a baking tray with puff pastry spread over apricot jam and finely sliced apples. Add flaked almonds and bake at 180 degrees for 20 mins. Serve with creme fraiche or ice cream.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 29/12/2025 20:28

Another one. Soak ginger biscuits in liqueur and arrange in a line then whip double cream and spread over whole lot. Slice diagonally.

I would agree with sticky toffee pudding. I use this recipe https://www.nigella.com/recipes/sticky-toffee-pudding It's really easy, can be made the day before and travels well. Just need to warm the sauce before serving.

You could also do a bread and butter pudding using brioche and/or adding chocolate chips to give it more of a party vibe.

Sticky Toffee Pudding

There is very little that can compare with the glory of a sticky toffee pudding. My STP is altogether deeper and darker than the original version: it is still sweet, but the muscovado sugar and black treacle give it an almost savage intensity. It shou...

Mary Berry’s chocolate brownies ( the one with Bourneville/ dark chocolate) decorate with drizzled white chocolate and freeze dried or fresh raspberries.

Jamie Oliver does a delicious bread and butter pudding with Baileys that I’ve had before.

Semifreddo al chocolato.... 6 egg whites, whisked to stiff peaks, 600ml cream also whisked fairly stiff with about 120-30 grams of icing sugar whisked in, plus 200g of grated dark chocolate (milk chocolate doesn't have enough taste) all folded together and frozen in a big loaf tin. It pleases everyone. And you use the egg yolks leftover with more cream (sorry) to make six or seven cremes brulee. My DM's dinner party staple.

pottydimley · 29/12/2025 20:53

Take two (or three if you’ve got greedy guests) Mcvitie Jamaican ginger cakes. Cut them into three layers, take two tins of mandarin oranges and plenty of whipped cream. Lay the cream and fruit between the cake layers, and top the cake with a large drizzle of mandarin syrup, cream and fruit. Very retro but delicious. Don’t stint on the syrup on top!

RosesAndHellebores · 29/12/2025 20:54

Cheats raspberry brulee

Two packs raspberries - spread ovwr the base of a large shallow dish, preferably glass.

Pint of double cream - whipped until quite firm
Fold in 4 good quality raspberry yoghurts.
Refrigerate overnight
Sprinkle with brown sugar

Very simple and always pleases.
A little of itngoes nicely with warm chocolate pudding - a sainsburys staple.

That sounds lovely and perfect as an adult dessert. I'm going to have to look that one up.
