What beloved TV show could do with a reboot? Would it work in today's age?

Mine is The Bill

Its started from 1984(!) on U&Drama so i'm starting it on the app

I think we could do with a new long running series, and The Bill could be it! There's obviously crime series like Line of Duty etc, but this, imo, would be long running like Casualty

Dunno how it would work though without being accused of being 'woke'

Oh god Lorraine and loose women . Younger people perspective needed and a full revamp

I'd like McKenzie Crook to remake Catweazle please.

I do hope McKenzie is on MN.

I would like a modern remake of The Good Life. The original was fantastic but there's probably an equally good modern take to be had

InveterateWineDrinker · 29/12/2025 15:35

Given how different the industry is now, not to mention the ships themselves, I think The Love Boat could be interesting remade as a sitcom or mockumentary-style show.

You could have gay cruises, ones with norovirus outbreaks, and those Daily Mail ones where loads of chavs on last-minute bargains end up in fistfights. And maybe a piracy one for good measure.

TheNightingalesStarling · 29/12/2025 15:40

I saw the title and thought The Bill.

Also think the Army Reserve could be a great setting for a Sitcom, a bit like Dad's Army.

season 11 everybody say love GIF by RuPaul's Drag Race

My post got deleted but was basically saying how sad I am that Lorraine has had her show cut right back, in (imo) an attempt to get rid of her.

It stinks of sexism imo - so what if she doesnt host her own show on Fridays and school holidays?! 😄

Ben Shepherd, cat deeley, Phil and Holly, piers Morgan and Suzanne didnt host the shows during those times and nobody cared!

I agree that daytime telly needs younger people, i reckon sian welby will be the next this morning host, this or next year, when ben and cat go (i want them to go, too dull, sorry)

Loose women needs adapting too, but dont know how. Just needs a refresh! I dont want their shows to be cut down though! They are trying though, having Olivia from love island on there. But the atmosphere ia awkward and unrelaxed

Nb, I wouldnt be me without gay creatives in the media 😌

Murder she wrote and columbo, something clever but not too complex or gory, likeable characters, easy to watch.

FeliciaFancybottom · 29/12/2025 16:21

Space 1999, it would be epic with today's special effects.

Twinktoes · 29/12/2025 16:26

Crossroads. But set in a hotel used by mostly corporate clients with the odd long term guest like Alan partridge. Would work I think!

We need more lighthearted corporate shows 😄

Less Succession, more The Split mixed with Motherland 🤷‍♀️

They did an okay job of a Darling Buds of May reboot except Bradley / average but bloody Walsh was in it.

Motherland. Failing that, more co star cameos in Amandaland.

Motherland being ended was a national travesty.

They did try and bring it back in early 00,s ( I think) but it didnt last long.

How Clean Is Your House? I know Kim is no longer with us but I'm sure they could find someone to fill her shoes. I loved that show.

Snowdropsaremyfavourite · 29/12/2025 16:33

Blind Date. I can't think of who should present it but I definitely think people would watch it. I know I would.

I think there is a film of Murder She Wrote in the works, starring Jamie Lee Curtis!

There was a comedy series about the TAVR back in the 90's.
All Quiet On The Preston Front.
Not long running (don't know if they made a second series even) but I liked it at the time.

Loved The Bill back in the day but it veered into soap opera territory with more & more unlikely storylines & characters, gave up on it in during the last few years.
I think that is the problem, program makers want to keep "developing" characters so in the end they take precedence over the storylines.

HollyhockDays · 29/12/2025 16:39

Tenko. I loved watching it!

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 29/12/2025 16:39

Knjghtmare - with the advances in tech these days it could be amazing. Enter, Stranger!

TooTiredToType77 · 29/12/2025 16:41

Kick-start!

MrsMoastyToasty · 29/12/2025 16:44

Brookside (the Brookside-Hollyoaks mash up didn't hit the spot).
Soldier, Soldier.
