To think that Kier Starmer shouldn't be welcoming extremists into Britain?

Twiglets1 · 27/12/2025 20:14

Reported in The Telegraph today that Sir Keir Starmer has welcomed an alleged Islamist extremist, who labelled British people “dogs and monkeys” and called for Zionists to be killed, into the UK.

The Prime Minister said he was “delighted” that Alaa Abd el-Fattah had arrived from Egypt on Friday evening after a travel ban imposed by Cairo was lifted following lobbying by ministers.

Mr Abd el-Fattah, an activist with dual British-Egyptian citizenship, previously said that it was heroic to kill Zionists “including civilians”. He urged Londoners to burn Downing Street, told his supporters to kill police and said he hated white people.

Ministers are facing calls to revoke his British citizenship, which he was granted in 2021 while imprisoned in Egypt, where campaigners described him as a “prisoner of conscience”.

Sir Keir’s tweet yesterday said how “delighted” he was that Alaa Abd El-Fattah is back in this country. Does that seem a reasonable stance to take for someone who has claimed at the same time to be committed to "eradicating antisemitism in the UK"?

I seem to have missed any statement that this man made thanking KS and previous governments for making his plight their top priority. I've noted he's pleased to be reunited with his family... but no delight in being 'back' in the UK.

If you start digging back a year or two using Google you can see that the family seem to have been very astute at gaining favourable coverage in some elements of the media, but not the sort of outlets many of us would see or read..hopefully this link isn't blocked by a paywall:

I can't read it unfortunately as behind a paywall but I get the gist.

It seems that it doesn’t matter who we vote for…the civil service, judiciary and ECHR run things- in a demented way. The people we elect to course correct for us and to make judgments, get demoralised and give up. Or, even worse, decide it’s quite nice not to be in power, that not really being responsible or accountable is quite relaxing.

bombastix · 30/12/2025 11:13

I can’t emphasize enough that British citizenship is a gift, legally. You can’t demand it. The good character guidance still operates today.

It looks to me as if there was a political decision to give him citizenship of the UK. And it was the wrong decision.

Yes, sorry I was afraid of that.

...but yes, you've probably got the idea - long piece centered on the poor hunger striking Mum plus the sisters efforts...blah blah... HMG not wishing to jeopardise economic/trade deals, and blowing smoke up the guys backside..

No mention I could see in it of him having any any views, comments or opinions that could be regarded as controversial to anybody other than the Egyptian government...

Yes of course. That was clumsy of me x

The Tories didn't start the process... they started and finished it

They clearly didn't finish it - Sunak's government was criticised in late 2023 for lack of progress in this case.

what [were] they and their advisors doing to earn their salaries??

Prioritising trade and gas deals with Egypt according to a statement made by Abd El-Fattah's family in 2023.

Robert Jenrick was not a government minister when Abd El-Fattah was granted British citizenship and he's not in government now that Abd El-Fattah has been welcomed to the UK. Unless you can come up with something else, your repeated attempts to pin this on Robert Jenrick look a bit pathetic. Personally I blame Wes Streeting Wink.

We can however definitely pin this on Chris Philp, the current Tory Shadow Home Secretary who was Immigration Minister when Abd El-Fattah was given citizenship & has been all over the airwaves describing Abd El-Fattah as a scumbag. The hypocrisy is off the scale.

Hamas leader Muhammad Qassem Sawalha was given British citizenship and subsequently bought his London home through the right to buy scheme.

I imagine if you look, you will find more.

Every single one of these people should be rounded up and thrown out of the country now 😡

Look at the ECHR ruling on this. It suggests otherwise.

More likely that as he was entitled to UK citizenship as his mother is British & born in the UK he just filled in the forms & waited for it to be granted. It was purely an administrative process with no political involvement.

I'm starting to question whether granting dual nationality should be abolished.

Yes, I have never understood why there is such a thing but it appears to be very common.

There have been suggestions that because el-Fattah's mother was born here he would have automatically have been granted citizenship. But looking at the online guidance, that wouldn't seem to be the case. It would have been if his father was British.

Dual nationality can be great, just don’t try really hard to overturn bans on men leaving. Take that as a gift.

It's a one foot in each camp that can amount to underhanded tactics. I bet he will continue his campaign against Egypt while on British soil. Whatever, he's clearly a danger to the rest of us. Well not quite all of us, just us mere infidels, Jews, gay and white people, not to mention our law enforcement.

There is still no automatic entitlement to becoming a UK citizen. Applying is one thing, but being granted it quite another.

The good character guidance still applies. This man was detained in a prison overseas. That should have prompted quite some scrutiny but it did not, I assume, or if it did, that concern was dismissed. It looks like an uncritical acceptance of the man. Why?

Read up on the ECHR ruling.

The gift thing is an odd take. Anyone who has gone through the process knows you’re just one of many. You either have the necessary documentation or you don’t.

MaturingCheeseball · 30/12/2025 11:44

The trouble is all these things are brushed under the carpet. Atrocity after atrocity, or even at a low level incomers being given golden hellos forever. But all we hear is “lessons will be learned” or “we are united in our condemnation…”

I think the problem with the next election will be the The Muslim Vote MPs - there could be a real presence in the next parliament (predictions of 30?) and holding a weighty balance of power.

OonaStubbs · 30/12/2025 11:58

He should be kicked out of the country immediately. And we should have left the ECHR at the same time as Brexit.

bombastix · 30/12/2025 12:31

Well there’s eff all chance of him being deported. As soon as he was granted citizenship that possibility disappeared. He has the same rights as anyone else in this thread assuming you are UK citizens.

I see Yvette Cooper has asked for an investigation. I imagine the eventual answer will be;

a) There was a technical entitlement to citizenship subject to the usual checks on character

b) The critical question - what was known at the point of grant

c) Whether or not he was subject to any further enquiry or pressure applied to speed up the process

d) The subsequent and intense efforts of Conservative and Labour governments to return a UK citizen to the UK

The issue is the grant and what was known. The phrase “government sources” indicating that he had an automatic right to citizenship does not seem right to me. I’d say if that were true then some immigration lawyer would have emerged to confirm it. This smells

ThatCyanCat · 30/12/2025 12:40

If Britain revokes citizenship before Egypt does, can he be deported back? My understanding is that for Britain, it's only when it would make a person stateless that it's not possible to revoke. They managed it with Begum because she was deemed to have a right to Bangladeshi citizenship, but Bangladesh refuses her entry.
