AIBU to think donut in face is not funny

We were out for DD birthday meal. She received a free donut for her bday with whipped cream and sprinkles on top. As she took her first bite, husband decided to shove it in her face. Donut fell out of her hand - cream all over her dress, me, the chair....
I did not find this at all funny. Am I being a miserable cow? I just can't see why anyone would do that in a restaurant for your child's birthday

No it's stupid - some people love pranks, some don't. I don't, but I also think that those who do don't know where to draw the line very often.

Seeingadistance · 27/12/2025 19:36

It's a horrible thing to do. And if he did it to another customer in the restaurant I'd expect them to call the police and for him to be charged with assault.

174ghxt · 27/12/2025 19:36

How did your child react?

RaininSummer · 27/12/2025 19:38

Poor girl. That was really horrible thing to do.

pictoosh · 27/12/2025 19:38

There are loads of tiktoks of men shoving women's faces into cakes atm.
Perhaps he's easily led.

plinkyplonk123 · 27/12/2025 19:38

I hate this. Tik Tok is full of videos of kids getting their faces shoved in their birthday cakes for likes and content. The kid in question is usually in tears as well. I would have been tempted to shove it up his arse

PInkyStarfish · 27/12/2025 19:38

That’s horrendous.

Fine if he did it to an adult (Keir Starmer cough cough) who could punch him in the face but to do it to a defenceless child it is a downright nasty thing to do.

The Keir Starmer bit was a joke, I don’t support the smoshing of food in anyone’s face.

MyLimeGuide · 27/12/2025 19:39

Had he been drinking?

BlusteryLake · 27/12/2025 19:40

Your husband sounds like an insufferable twat. I would be livid if some pillock did that to me.

LikeWhoUsesTypewritersAnyway · 27/12/2025 19:41

What a ridiculous, childish, cunty, horrible thing to do. I would have found anything I could that was wet and sticky, and rubbed it in his fucking face.

What a dickhead. What did your daughter think? I imagine she was not happy?!

WiddlinDiddlin · 27/12/2025 19:43

No, YANBU and that is a fucking horrible cunty thing to do.

HE found it funny and you have to ask him WHY he thought it was funny to shock, to humiliate, to ruin her birthday treat - why would he want to do that to someone he supposedly loves?

Also I would dump his dinner over his head at the earliest opportunity, which may not be sensible but sometimes morons need to experience humiliation first hand to understand why its fucking horrible.

You didn't need to edit that! Most people would agree doing it to Keir Starmer would be acceptable. 😆

Not a little 7 year old child on their birthday though. What kind of father does that to their daughter?! I'd have gone postal on him!

Moonnstarz · 27/12/2025 19:44

I would have been really cross at this. How old is DD and what did she think? I would be annoyed at the mess, on her that would need cleaning but also for the restaurant staff who will need to clean up after him. I hope he left a substantial tip.

BauhausOfEliott · 27/12/2025 19:44

How old is your daughter? Did she find it funny?

I hate that kind of thing myself. But if that’s the sort of thing she and your husband laugh at together, it’s fair enough I suppose. Restaurants that give you a free doughnut on your birthday aren’t typically the kind of restaurants where a prank like that would be frowned upon. In a Hard Rock Cafe or TGI Friday’s or Frankie & Benny’s it’s not going to be a problem.

If you were at eg Claridge’s, it was colossally inappropriate.

If your daughter didn’t find it funny, then your husband is a complete cunt.

CosyMintFish · 27/12/2025 19:46

How cruel. I guess I don’t see the funny side at all. I hope he cleaned things up afterwards.

NoSoupForU · 27/12/2025 19:47

No mention of whether your daughter was upset by it or found it funny? Only how you felt? Given it was her birthday and it happened to her, surely her feelings on it are the only ones that matter here?

MuffWat · 27/12/2025 19:51

My DD just turned 11. I think she was in shock but didn't get upset
My other DD (15) Found it hilarious
He only had half a pint as he was driving
He doesn't have tiktok so can't be coz of that - he just has a stupid sense of humour. Maybe after 20 odd years of being together it's got on my nerves too much

Mumtobabyhavoc · 27/12/2025 19:56

Eleven years old? Was likely feeling happy and special with the birthday donut. Pretty dress. Not funny. Mean.

DH needs to apologize to his daughter, tell her he acted stupidly and give her a special treat as a replacement.

Seeingadistance · 27/12/2025 20:01

Ok, setting aside the TikTok thing as it seems he didn't get the idea from there - why the fuck would anyone think pushing a cake in someone's face is in any way a reasonable thing to do?

And why, as a pp has suggested, would anyone think that a restaurant that gives someone a free cake on their birthday expect that the cake might be shoved in the birthday-haver's face?!

It's assault. It's demeaning, humiliating and violent.

Pranksters · 27/12/2025 20:16

‘The divorce came out of nowhere…’.

MissyB1 · 27/12/2025 20:25

I would never be with a nasty immature prick like that.

UtterlyOtterly · 27/12/2025 20:36

Which day is he taking her to choose a new dress? Even if the first one is washable he needs to apologise and replace it at the earliest opportunity.

Marylou2 · 27/12/2025 20:41

OMG your poor daughter and you too! What a complete horror he is. Has he apologised?

Vaxtable · 27/12/2025 20:41

Poor child having a complete twatfor a father. Why on earth would he do something so cruel

I totally agree and I can’t stand ‘pranks’. I had a twat of a boyfriend like this once. Absolutely unfunny and unsexy too. Reminded me of Jimmy crankie with his try hard antics.

op I hope your husband apologises to your daughter for being such an attention seeking idiot on her birthday and he can go and buy her a dozen doughnuts to make up for his foolishness
