People who will only have Yorkshire pudding with beef

Can I ask why? Yorkshire puddings are a nice addition to any roast meat. I’ve just never understood why you would deprive yourself of Yorkshire pudding on a roast because the meat isn’t beef, what is the reasoning? Some people seem to feel quite passionately about it.

Mmm…. Love Yorkshire puddings….have them reheated next day with jam 🤤

strange25 · 27/12/2025 17:13

It’s criminal to not have a Yorkshire with a roast!

I've never heard of that

Who on earth is depriving themselves of Yorkshires with turkey/lamb/pork/duck/chicken/a good pie??

Reveal yourselves so you can be judged!

Wowzel · 27/12/2025 17:14

Bunch of miseries. They go with everything!

Wanderdust · 27/12/2025 17:14

Agreed, I also have them with chicken!

Swiftie1878 · 27/12/2025 17:15

They seem to enjoy depriving themselves 🤷🏼‍♀️
Yorkshires with EVERY roast, and of course Toad in the Hole.

Advocodo · 27/12/2025 17:15

We had them with our turkey, mostly cos of the young grandkids wanting them.

My dad would have them with syrup.. After all it's basically pretty much the same as pancake batter!

MyNattyCrow · 27/12/2025 17:16

if people want to deprive themselves of a Yorkshire pudding because its roast something other than beef, then I say we leave them to it and roll our eyes if they try to pretend this is some kind of moral high ground.

Marylou2 · 27/12/2025 17:16

Having tuna caesar salad for dinner. Sadly no yorkshire puddings but if one was offered I wouldn't refuse.

TheNightingalesStarling · 27/12/2025 17:16

The original point if Yorkshires was to full you up with something cheap so you need less expensive meat.

Ergo, they work with any meal.

What now😮

Sohelpmegod25 · 27/12/2025 17:16

We all love a Yorkshire we had them with our turkey, went down a treat!

Mithral · 27/12/2025 17:17

Weirdly I think it's seen as a bit common to have them with chicken.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 27/12/2025 17:17

Growing up we only had Yorkshire puddings with beef, my mum still refuses to have them with any other roast. We had them for Christmas dinner and she made a big deal about refusing to take one for her plate because they ‘don’t go’ with any meat but beef. I don’t understand it, they’re my favourite part of the dinner for me.

And custard 😋

NoisyViewer · 27/12/2025 17:19

I have them every Sunday but not on a Christmas dinner purple because I do about 6 sides alongside the meat & it’s just to filling especially when they’re easy to make & I’ve put more effort in with veg I want people to eat something else

Maybe because chicken is the cheapest of the roast meats, so if you need to make the meal cheaper again, people would look down on it?

I don't, before anyone says anything, but based on a previous posters point that the point of them was so you needed less of the expensive meats.

Oh yes I wonder if that's it - that makes some sense as the origin of it.

OneFootAfterTheOther · 27/12/2025 17:21

<nervously puts head above parapet>. - Because I need the dripping off the beef roast to make them?

That would be my mum, @mumofoneAloneandwell. And she abhorred gravy too. But now I am 61, and she is no longer with us, we can have Yorkshire puddings whenever we want, and gravy too - though I am used to roasts without gravy, so I do like them like that, and only have gravy at Christmas, when we make home made duck stock for the gravy, which is delicious. The rest of the time, I have mustard with beef, apple sauce with pork, bread sauce with chicken, and parsley sauce with gammon.

Yorkshire puddings are the food of the Gods, and people should have them whenever they want. Piping hot with golden syrup and thick cream is particularly lovely.

LuciaMi · 27/12/2025 17:21

My FIL always comments if we serve Yorkshire puddings with meats other than beef (we serve them with all roasts!). Every time I politely say ‘you don’t have to eat them’ and roll my eyes 🙄

JohnTheRevelator · 27/12/2025 17:22

I will eat Yorkshire puddings with anything. I had some with a salmon fillet the other day. I think people who will only eat them with beef are missing out. They go so well with so many foods.

Toddlerteaplease · 27/12/2025 17:22

Accidentally voted unreasonable. I completely agree!
