People who will only have Yorkshire pudding with beef

Can I ask why? Yorkshire puddings are a nice addition to any roast meat. I’ve just never understood why you would deprive yourself of Yorkshire pudding on a roast because the meat isn’t beef, what is the reasoning? Some people seem to feel quite passionately about it.

I have them just with beef. That's our preference.

Lamb: onion sauce and mint sauce, possibly some redcurrant jelly.

Pork: apple sauce and possibly some sage and onion stuffing.

Chicken: bread sauce, cranberry, possibly redcurrant.

Beef: yorkshire pudding and horseradish.

Turkey: bread sauce, pigs, cranberry

I look forward to the combinations and the complementary accompaniments.

Everyone else is welcome to do as they please.

Oh, I forgot, toad in the hole.

Dawnintheageofaquariams · 27/12/2025 18:06

I'd happily have a Yorkshire pudding with a fried breakfast.
Although I am from Otley by birth, so a tad biased.

Seawolves · 27/12/2025 18:07

I always make them to go with a roast but am not bothered by them myself.

What are bacon rolls?

To me that's a breakfast food item, and doesn't go with a roast!

Literally a little roll of streaky bacon. Presumably you’re familiar with it rolled round cocktail sausages aka pigs in blankets?

I don’t like Yorkshire puddings

I assume that you have no reflection in a mirror, and magpies eye you up on a regular basis..?

Bacon rolls are just streaky bacon, rolled up. We used to have them and mini sausages with turkey at Christmas - pigs in blankets were seen as a bit common! I have no strong feelings about those that want to serve Yorkshire puddings with any sort of roast, but I personally never did it as I liked the fact that a roast chicken lunch is very different to roast beef which is different to lamb, because of the differing accompaniments.

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 27/12/2025 18:10

I've never understood this. Yorkshires are the best thing about any roast.

Yeah I know pigs in blankets. So it's basically that without the sausage? Never come across that.. Wonder if it's regional?

Flowersandfauna · 27/12/2025 18:11

They go with beef, other things go with other meats!

Mmm…. Love Yorkshire puddings….have them reheated next day with jam 🤤

Try them with sweet chilli jam! 🫠

Also, I’m sure Toby carvery did a Yorkshire pud at one stage with cream inside!

justasking111 · 27/12/2025 18:11

For years I found them a hit and miss faff. Then recently discovered frozen ones. Now dh will often pop a couple into the air fryer to augment our evening meal. Delicious treat.

tilypu · 27/12/2025 17:15

My dad would have them with syrup.. After all it's basically pretty much the same as pancake batter!

We make huge ones and fill them with sausages and vegetables - gorgeous with loads of gravy.

Sometimes I make them specially so they can go with a bit of jam.

there are rarely left overs on the day of a roast

Quincette · 27/12/2025 18:13

My parents were inveterate snobs and purists. I’m even worse. A Yorkshire pudding goes with roast beef.

I’m the William Hanson of our household. And our household is not a Toby carvery.

I feel like my username comes into its own here!

LatteLady · 27/12/2025 18:14

I like a Yourshire pud, or bags of wind as my mother would have called them, but I prefer them with beef, preferably cooked in beef dripping. Happy for others to eat them as they see fit but for me, it is akin to putting apple sauce on beef, horseradish on chicken or bread sauce on pork. I suppose it could taste nice but that is not the way that I happen to like it.

No, I thought it always used to be separate chipolata sausages and bacon (either rolled or just crisply cooked slices) until the supermarkets found a way to upsell the combination.

tobee · 27/12/2025 18:15

Why do people want them with every roast? They are lovely but I don't have to them with everything. Having them only with roast beef is fine.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 27/12/2025 17:25

Well, as your mum has passed, she will avoid my shaming, bless her

I do wonder why though - is Yorkshire associated with beef only?

God, a life of roast dinners without gravy, support girl, support 💐💐😄🥰

Then again, maybe thats how its supposed to be? I cant have a roast without it swimming in gravy 🤤🤰

The worst thing was that my mum made absolutely epic Yorkshire puddings, @mumofoneAloneandwell - and we could have had them every week, not just with roast beef.

I have tried various different recipes, including hers, and can’t replicate hers.

ImTheLyricalDanceFlap · 27/12/2025 18:15

I love Yorkshire puddings but don’t see a roast as a homogeneous meal. When I’m cooking I prefer to serve certain accompaniments with certain meats. I wouldn’t turn a Yorkshire pudding down if someone served it with a Christmas dinner but I wouldn’t cook one myself as there’s enough going on with the side dishes I cook with Christmas dinner.

dizzydizzydizzy · 27/12/2025 18:17

My DCs insist on DM's Yorkshire at every opportunity.

tobee · 27/12/2025 18:17

I don't understand mumsnetters who can't cope with fruit sauces to go with savoury. Apple sauce with pork, apricots with lamb etc.

Why on earth is that not a Thing? Pancakes are…Pancakes, bacon and maple syrup are in the US, toad in the hole is Yorkshire pud and sausage … perfect fusion food brunch.

How long ago are you talking? Because I've been aware of pigs in blankets all my life and I've past the half-century

BIossomtoes · 27/12/2025 18:24

My gran used to make Yorkshire pudding with apples cooked in it. Served with a big pat of butter and topped with dark brown sugar. It was the food of the gods.
