I love christmas, and I love christmas presents, I got my best friend a lovely calendar showing photos that were precious to me throughout the year of all the good times we have shared, in return, and this is so strange, I got two bookends, which have obviously been handmade, but look like my face, but in a grotesque punch and judy way, I'm not sure whether they are supposed to look so scary, but they are hideous, I actually had nightmares about them last night, and on top of that, a smaller 3D figurine which is basically me looking like a drag queen in hideous blonde hair and a massive red bow, they obviously took a long time and I get that, but I wonder what they are trying to tell me, they have sent me a message asking what I think of them and I really don't know what to say, to be honest, Im quite upset they see me that way. Im just a normal person who loves christmas, I was hoping for tickets to see a christmas carol or something like that.

its really not funny, how would you like it if your best friend made bookmarks that made you look like a bug eyed witch with a slight goatee, when they had let you to believe they were gifting you christmas carol tickets at the old vic, as I said, i know i messed up with the bill but there is no need to be so personal, its downright hurtful and very cruel

Sorry @confusedgoldilocks but this is actually making me laugh. (I'm so sorry. 😆) It does look bloody hideous, but I'm sure they didn't mean to hurt your feelings. If they see this thread they will know how you feel. And they will know it's about them, because you have uploaded a photo of the item!

You can always bin the bookends in the new year. If they ask where they are in the future, just say you put them in the loft.

Reminds me of one time (bit of a different situation but similar,) DH, and I, and our 2 DC went into a little 'photo booth' in Blackpool, around the early 20002, and had a 'pencil drawn picture' of our head and shoulders. (It was computerised but presented as pencil drawn....) DH's looked like pic 1, the 2 DC looked like pic 2, and MY picture looked like pic 3 here. But I looked about 3 stone heavier with a chunky neck and a double chin. I looked like a fucking fat 60 year old woman. (And I was about 36!)

I ripped my copy up in anger at being presented as so awful! DH and the kids thought it was funny. I did laugh about it a day later, and still laugh about it now, but I was upset and angry at the time! I'm sure that you will find all this funny in a few weeks.

Many thanks for the replies, all of which gave good food for thought, I should provide some background, I guess I am just a normal everyday person that got caught in a whirlwind of doubt and anxiety over this, and the replies gave a good balanced view which was actually quite helpful. To give some background, we are good friends, and we do have a history of playing practical jokes on each other, so I can see the funny side of it now, we tend to take turns over christmas with one of us buying an expensive present, and the other a cheap one on alternate years, so I should have probably explained this was my year for the cheap present, during the meal they were both laughing because I am a bit scatterbrained about money but I guess next day, sometimes everything can look glass half empty instead of half full .

This morning I was about to throw the box out that had the bookends and I found half hidden away my ticket for the old vic, so they came down and there were hugs and all the sillyness was swept away.

It was interesting watching you all play devils advocate and all opinions were taken on board.

I’m glad your friendship has been restored. Whether people believe this is a genuine thread or not that’s on them. I think it is real and there was a lot of miscommunication and overthinking going on. No I don't. That made me very suspicious. As if you'd buy somebody tickets and present them so carelessly. Especially if you had them filmed so you could see their reaction.

But then the whole thing is so bizarre, I can't imagine anybody making it up.

So i lined up the bookends either side of the goldilocks figurine, and it sort of created a shrine, a hideous constipated half face on one side, goldilocks in the middle and then a matching mirror image constipated half face on the other side. Seeing the three of them looks quite striking to be honest, goldilocks has a sort of serene smile, but the half faces look quite disturbed.

And then it came to me, they are not bookends at all, they are actually designed to be a three statue shrine, they represent something, and then silly me, it came to me, its Abraxas.

The lit self, the shadow self, Abraxas in between, I could really bang my head onto a wall, its so obvious.

Abraxas loves you all!!!!!
