To finally let go of my Duolingo Streak?

mumofoneAloneandwell · 25/12/2025 22:05

Its 1460 days - but all i seem to do is use streak freezes or do easy lessons rather than further my actual learning

Time to let go and find something else?

Yabu - keep it, and work harder
Yanbu - let it go, youve clearly over it

To finally let go of my Duolingo Streak?

Let it go! I'm seeing out my 2331 to 2350 and uninstalling the app.

CheeriosOrFrosties · 25/12/2025 22:07

Let it go. It’s such a relief!

mumofoneAloneandwell · 25/12/2025 22:09

Literally on the days where ive done a lesson, its been ONE lesson. I even scroll back to level one and done the basic phrases 😅😅

Mine, though much shorter (675 days) than yours, is a millstone round my neck. I'm trying to gear myself up to walk away.

outerspacepotato · 25/12/2025 22:09

I've been thinking about letting mine go but I'm getting close to finishing the course (it's short compared to some of the languages). Probably when I finish and before I start another.

OrbitingTheEarth · 25/12/2025 22:10

well done. I did 365 days, screenshotted it then Deleted the app. Never looked back!

SorenLorensonsInvisibleFriend · 25/12/2025 22:14

I made it to 1650 back in October and was ending up doing exactly as you said - easy lessons at 11:50pm. I don’t miss it!

AlphaBravoGamma · 25/12/2025 22:25

I do all my lessons on Saturday & Sunday for the whole week to maintain my place in the diamond league 🤣🤣 you just change the date on your phone for each lesson

greenwithglee · 25/12/2025 22:38

Honestly I dont believe its actually a streak if you use a freeze- it might be counting but lets be real- it isnt actually a streak, so you might as well let it go

Let it go! I made it to a bit over 1500 last year and decided to end it on New Year's Eve 2024. I felt I was doing lessons for the sake of it rather than learning anything useful by the end, and have no regrets about quitting.

FlowerFlour · 25/12/2025 22:56

Let it go!

I once had a 1000+ day streak on Duolingo, but by the end it felt like the streak had me. I was worrying about it, doing lessons at stupid times of the day and night. I didn't even enjoy it anymore, but felt I had to keep the streak going because it was so long. It's the definition of a sunk cost fallacy.

Once I released it I felt like a weight had been lifted, and that experience cured me of all other 'streak keeping' behaviour, like with Wordle etc.

BatshitIsTheOnlyExplanation · 25/12/2025 23:00

Maybe I'm a way behind at 485 days, but I feel I'm still learning. There are some days where I only do one lesson to not lose the streak, but mostly I actually learn something. And mostly do 30 mins.

Butterflyarms · 25/12/2025 23:00

Is anyone more fluent, or is it just about the streak?

I'd say its been a great starter

I'd say i'm at a2/b1 now thanks to it

But they changed the lesson style, so you have to follow their timeline rather than doing things your own way, which was, for me, the nail in the coffin

If you can, do your lessons with a pen and paper in hand, writing down everything, which will definitely help xx

100% this, I am abandoning it

Agree, its at the point where its just keeping the numbers up, rather than loving learning 🥺🥺

Memrise is really good content, but harder to navigate than Duolingo

Handeyethingyowl · 25/12/2025 23:09

I have never got above 100 days even though I do Duolingo regularly. Above 85 days it becomes too stressful!

I tested at B1 in a language I had no prior knowledge of, but I also used anki cards for vocabulary and bought some audiobooks and listened to radio in the language.

Clearinguptheclutter · 26/12/2025 09:12

I’m at 445 and am fairly determined to finish the Spanish course which at this rate will be late next year

i really do have a love hate relationship with if. No way do you get fluent but I’ve def learnt a lot

itsthetea · 26/12/2025 09:14

Are you all subscribers or freebies ?

Sweetbeansandmochi · 26/12/2025 09:17

I had a 900 (forgetten number now) and I stopped one day and literally never thought of it again. Despite it being a daily habit for just under three years. I also didn’t ever really progress in my language learning. Also I go to fed up of that owl thing sending me notifications- as others have said, it was a relief.

RenoDakota · 26/12/2025 09:19

I still enjoy it, but 'only' have a 390 day streak. Finished German and am doing Spanish now but flip back to easier (to me) German refreshers to keep getting triple XP for the following day. Much easier to get a 'perfect' lesson in German.
But that "woohoo, you're ready for hard mode now" drives me absolutely around the bend.

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 26/12/2025 09:22

Another one saying to let it go, it's a relief!
