What’s the yummy leek dish?

Leeks fried, add some lemon juice and then finish with cream, yum!

Flowers999 · 26/12/2025 00:07

Pre gravy, no turkey but beef and gammon.

Plates absolutely overflowing with food you could eat any day of the week. I don't think any of it looks enticing at all.

You're absolutely right. This was mine, but I made way too much, could only manage half.

This is mine, also had pigs in blankets. Had smoked salmon on brown soda bread and cream cheese for starters.

Tried to make it into artywankyfoodphotography but that’s super hard to do with an Xmas dinner. Ballotine of turkey with trimmings.

No photo but this year I ordered the veg box from our local farm shop. Slightly worried it may end up being disappointing but I was so wrong. Sprouts, potatoes, leeks, onions, celeriac, savoy cabbage, red cabbage, swede, parsnips and cauliflower. So had celeriac puree and stir fried savoy cabbage with chestnuts. Added peas and carrots but didn’t use the leeks or swede, will make soup and a turkey and leeks with rice dish at some point.

The turkey was definitely the support act with all the veg. I nailed the roast potatoes this year, we like them crispy but fluffy inside. My only slip up was not reducing the gravy enough, before adding thickener so was a tad watery.

My DS loves Xmas dinner so there is enough for at least 2 more days and for Christmas dinner sandwiches or wraps.

I’m a purist ( Yorkshire woman) so refuse point blank to serve Yorkshire puddings with turkey. We do have a big sirloin joint though so will be making them at the weekend.
DS requested Yorkshire pudding wraps so we are going to experiment.

A little late, but this was ours yesterday. We have a blend of English, Norwegian and Swedish traditional Christmas dinner. We live in a small mountain village, so it can be difficult to find things in the few shops that are here, so I do my best! Although we're an English family, kids have never actually lived in UK. I've tried so hard to keep some English traditions, but they really aren't so keen on a roast! They love Yorkshires though, so I've done something right!

Anyway, on the table we had
Roasted entrecote
Juleskinke (Swedish smoked christmas ham)
Homemade pork, apricot and walnut stuffing
Prinskorv (smoked mini sausages) wrapped in bacon
Moose meatballs
Cured reindeer
Pate made by a friend
Smoked salmon and gravlaks
Whiskey and sennap sild (herring in whiskey and mustard)
Roast potatoes
Sprouts
Carrots
Red cabbage
Julepølse (Christmas sausage)
Arctic rasperberry and chilli jam (homemade)
Peppercorn sauce
Cranberry and gløgg sauce (homemade)

Previous years I've made my own Christmas pudding, but nobody likes it apart from me, so I've saved myself the 8 hours! I made sticky toffee pudding and a shortbread based large mincepie with some leftover mincemeat I had.

Now we have lots of leftovers for a cold lunch today, which is perfect.

My pavlova which I was pretty proud of as I thought I’d ruined it by letting it cool in the oven. It was delicious.

I'm intrigued. What food could you not eat any day of the week?

Dancingsquirrels · 26/12/2025 07:43

Top tip for leftovers - Boxing Day pie

Chop up meat, potatoes, veg etc in a large bowl. Add gravy, bread / cranberry sauce. Stir it all together

Makes an amazing casserole, or pie filling (mashed potato on top)

Can be frozen, then defrosted later

Cook about 30-40 mins at 200 degrees, until it's piping hot

Mumdiva99 · 26/12/2025 07:49

No photo of ours. But it was made by my 3 teenagers together. Lamb, veg, Yorkshire, roast potato's etc etc and their favourite new addition to our table - cabbage and bacon in cream. Delish. And they washed up. And there as no arguing. A perfect Christmas.

The voice of reason. Poor you, stumbling across plates of food. If only the thread title was more obvious. Perhaps MNHQ should add a <trigger warning>.
