Does your teen/DC in their teens or 20’s vape? Our DD (she lives away at uni) vapes and refuses to stop and insists it’s not bad for her health when it is!

Anyone?

Yes my son, 23 does.
Id rather he didn’t but what can you do?
I smoked in my late teens/twenties and gave up in my thirties.

Bookaholic73 · 24/12/2025 12:10

Neither of mine do, they are 21 and 25.

Chemenger · 24/12/2025 12:11

Mine don’t, 24 and 28

Christmastimes · 24/12/2025 12:11

Dss 16 does has done for about 3 years. It’s a horrendous habit. I really worry for the long term effects on respiratory health in a whole generation . I actually am shocked the government allow it and think they should be totally banned

DisappointedD · 24/12/2025 12:13

Well obviously 1000s of them do (just look around in public places!). I suspect my young adult DS does with friends but doesn’t around us as knows we dislike it.
Probably not as awful as smoking but equally not good.

W0tnow · 24/12/2025 12:13

No. They’ve tried it, but no. I suspect my oldest has a ciggie from time to time. She’s good at hiding it. She knows I’ll run them under the tap if I find them.

Silverbirchleaf · 24/12/2025 12:14

No, and never have (to my knowledge)

’Ciggie’ - awful word, makes me cringe. 😬

MrsSPenguins · 24/12/2025 12:14

No at least not to my knowledge - 1 is 100% no, 1 is probably no.

Meadowfinch · 24/12/2025 12:18

No, my ds17 doesn't vape or smoke, thank goodness. He doesn't drink alcohol either, having seen the embarrassing state his dad gets in.

I offer him a glass of wine whenever we go out for dinner, but so far he has refused. Fair enough, he's old enough to decide for himself.

He can eat his own body weight in pizza & jaffa cakes though. 😁

MrsSkylerWhite · 24/12/2025 12:19

No, thank goodness. Asthma and has common sense.

SwirlyShirly · 24/12/2025 12:23

My ds14 has been caught a few times and was hauled over the coals every single time. My main concern is the illegal ‘spiced’ vapes that are being laced with spice / mamba which are apparently readily available via Snapchat / WhatsApp and have made children in our local secondary school very unwell. And to be clear - it’s quite a well to do suburban catchment / demographic. Terrifying.

TappyGilmore · 24/12/2025 12:26

No. DD16. Some of her friends do but she thinks it’s disgusting and uncool. Which it is.

Runningismyhappyplace50 · 24/12/2025 12:43

I think my eldest does (college) but not found any evidence yet.

Jerseymilkshake · 24/12/2025 12:46

Yes my dd(21) does. I hate it but equally hope she'll see sense and grow out of it.

SmileyMoonset · 24/12/2025 12:46

No

blankcanvas3 · 24/12/2025 12:46

DS17 does at parties but not at any other time. I’ve never found vapes in his room or in his pockets etc so I’m inclined to believe him. DH and I both vape to give up smoking but this is our last week as we’ll have completely weaned off by January 1st.

landlordhell · 24/12/2025 12:47

Yes 21 and 25 but only on a night out. Wish they wouldn’t buy better than smoking and it’s not all the time.

W0tnow · 24/12/2025 12:47

I read an earlier post today from a dentist about a resurgence of some kind of gum disease that she is seeing more often in younger vapers.

Newmeagain · 24/12/2025 12:52

I am currently visiting family in Australia where vaping is banned. Not many people smoke either. It’s so nice not to be constantly exposed to the smell.

DC1 used to 'socially vape' with friends when younger, and then douse herself in gross perfume from Primark to disguise the sickly sweet stench of the vape. "Urgh, what's that reek, DC1?" "Oh, it's just this perfume from Primark (deftly whipped out of her bag as 'proof')." So grim. Thankfully, it didn't last long. I don't know anyone else who smokes or vapes.

QueenofLouisiana · 24/12/2025 13:12

No, he’s 20. Never smoked either. I think he’s one of the few who does do either in his uni house (or weed).

RampantIvy · 24/12/2025 13:18

No. She has no desire to become addicted to anything. She doesn't smoke either. Very few of her friends smoke or vape either. Also, very few of our friends and family smoke or vape so it isn't something that was normalised when she was growing up.

She has been doing magnetic imaging clinical placements as part of her degree (MRI, Xray, CT scanning) and has seen some pretty horrific images of advanced cancer and I think it has been enough to put her off even if she was thinking of taking up habits like these.
