Disney songs in the office

ffsrealy · 23/12/2025 09:53

I’m in a grump this morning anyway but oh my god. Disney songs on all morning and I just can’t deal with it. WIBU to turn them off and tell the person playing them to grow up? We’re an office of adults!

It's not just the music though, is it? As @JacquesHarlow said, it's it's the clothes, the house decor, the tattoos....the rooting of a whole identity based on someone else's imagination.

Disclaimer - I’m not particularly into Disney, so definitely not a Disney adult. But isn’t this just trends and fashion in general? To some extent, whatever you’re into, it’s all based on someone else’s imagination? Even if it’s some high brow art / music / activity. People are just so snobby about Disney.

I bet part of it is because Disney is (gasp) American!

It's because, like Taylor Swift or K Pop Demon Hunters, it is used by certain people (those without let's say a surfeit of personality) to test you to see if you're a "fun" person.

If you don't respond in kind, they use the tactics they used as school bullies or wannabes to then turn on you and say "You're no fun!"

I don't care if you listen to Disney all day in your headphones, in the shower and on the school run. I am happy for you.

I do care if you decide to use the music as a yardstick of "hey, we're all about to have fun!! If you don't join in you're weird!" etc

It’s because it’s fucking annoying. All of it sounds the same, the same preppy high pitched bleating about wanting a man to save you.

If you can't beat them join them.

Sing a long Enchanted style. But with dark lyrics. Dark, dark, dark. Perhaps monologuing your inner thoughts.

Whistle While You Work? No.
🎵 [Colleague] is a turd. 🎵

Be Our Guest?
🎵Meet your death, meet your death, meet your death. 🎵

Lift your stuff from the printer with a FLOURISH. A beatific smile. A twirl! Oh God, you have to twirl.

G'wan, embrace your inner princess.

So is Harry Potter

Yes and I find the adults obsessed with Harry Potter just as bizarre to be honest.

You clearly haven't listened to many Disney songs.

I don't know a single person who is like that, and I know a lot of adults who love Disney.

Unfortunately I have

So all the songs from say, The Jungle Book are about wanting a man to save you, are they? What about the songs in Bambi about raindrops, or the ones from Mulan about fighting and female empowerment? Or the numerous other songs and films that have absolutely nothing to do with love and romance? Confused

No they’re just cringeworthy and annoying.

Good for you @vanillalattes . Once again, in traditional Mumsnet style, someone comes along to say "I don't know anyone like this so your entire viewpoint is discredited thanks to my sample set of......one".

LostittoBostik · 23/12/2025 17:22

Eww awful. Unless you’re Disney as a euphemism for twee Christmas tracks, I would absolutely be looking for a new job. Couldn’t handle that.

Nope, I'm just trying (and clearly failing) to point out that it's silly to judge all Disney fans by your own (limited) experience.

I suspect you know a lot of people who enjoy Disney music and films, they just don't tell you - so you only notice the ones who are more "out there" about it. The same as with most things, really - you only notice the ones who shout about it.

Not much. Lots of thinly veiled stereotypes and some poor writing that most above the age of 12 have grown out of.

Enjoying as in sitting down to watch with your children? Fine. Enjoying as in sitting down as an adult to watch a kids film? Odd.

YANBU. I dislike anything to do with Disney so this would really piss me off!

Twinkylightsg · 23/12/2025 17:29

Think you are just in a grump. When I am in a grump most noise irritates me so not many songs wouldn't have annoyed me.

BCBird · 23/12/2025 17:30

Why is it odd - because you don't like it?

I'm an autistic, married adult woman currently sat on the sofa watching Pocahontas. Because it's familiar, comforting, relaxing and safe.

But by all means carry on with your judgement if it makes you feel better.
