We take our children trail hunting and absolutely love being part of the hunt community. There is nothing like the sound of the bugle and seeing the horses and hounds out, especially on boxing day.

We also shoot game and our children have grown up with partridge, pheasant hanging in our outbuildings. Our friends bring us venison.

We also have a small holding and know how to care for animals well. The children collected eggs and mucked out from 2 years old. We only buy high welfare meats. We have rescue cats roaming our land & ex battery hens. We love animals.

It's not a good person/ evil person debate.

So what are your thoughts on the hounds chasing and killing live animals, which goes on in too many trail hunts?

MrsSkylerWhite · 28/12/2025 22:52

((Not Muslim or Jewish, either, barely eat meat. Free range chicken sometimes)

MrsSkylerWhite · 28/12/2025 22:52

Still think fox hunting is barbaric 🤷‍♀️

IWantToSneeze · 28/12/2025 22:52

I'd be cool with it.

All the good things you do for animals, do not make it OK for you to support and attend fox hunts.

I always think these people who tag along after the hunters are just tag-nuts, hoping they will be mistaken for posh people.

They are not fox hunts - that is illegal.

You are completely mistaken in thinking hunts are all about posh people.

I imagine that’s why most left leaning people are so anti, they think they are sticking it to the poshos. They are wrong and it’s really sad to see how desperate they are to punish law abiding people. .

EmeraldShamrock000 · 28/12/2025 22:53

It’s disgusting.
My DH wouldn’t be that cruel.

Good job we’re not talking about fox hunting then.

That is against the law, and the vast majority of hunts operate entirely within the law.

Would your children enjoy seeing a fox or hare ripped apart by the dogs? There is a definite chance of that happening.

Can you explain how trail hunting is cruel? The people laying the trail aren’t given enough cups of tea maybe? Or loo breaks?

GoodQueenWenceslaus · 28/12/2025 22:55

crumpet · 28/12/2025 22:41

That’s not trail hunting though, is it.

Well yes, it can be. That's exactly the reason people have a problem with it.

Jesus wept. So we are comparing animals natural instincts to humans who choose to torture animals in the name of tradition and entertainment. We’re supposed to be the dominant species. The same as people justifying it because foxes kill chickens. A fox doesn’t know it’s doing ‘wrong’. Humans should know better. Normal humans shouldn’t get enjoyment from seeing a living creature die in such a horrific way.

Thatpastalife · 28/12/2025 22:58

Some PP are totally missing the TRAIL hunting part, nothing cruel there at all. Clean boot hunting would be even better, as this just follows the scent of a bunch of trail runners. Hope he and his horse have a great time and get round safely.

There’s more chance of that happening with the 2.4 million farm animals being brutally killed by pet dogs every year though. As opposed to the 61 reported fox kills (League Against Cruel Sports figures) across 2 years.

Bombinia · 28/12/2025 22:59

BundleBoogie · 28/12/2025 22:48

Are all posters who are so utterly disgusted with OPs DH that they think she should leave him aware of how many farm animals get killed in the most horrendous ways by pet dogs every year?

Pet dogs kill 2.4 million farm animals per year. They also kill approx 64,000 other dogs and a few humans. Every year.

By contrast, approx 61 foxes were confirmed killed by the League Against Cruel Sports in a 2 year period.

Then we consider the millions of animals slaughtered without prior stunning for halal and kosher food.

But hey, let’s destroy jobs, marriages and thousands of animals (redundant hounds and horses will be killed if trail hunting is banned) for the foxes (that are likely to get shot for killing chickens/cats/ducks/small pets anyway).

Those animal lovers who love their animals so much they will have them killed off they can't use them to go and kill wildlife. They clearly don't love them at all if they will just kill them off.

Only it is. Just because you rehome cats doesn't make you a good person. It doesn't excuse everything else.

Many horses and hounds are routinely killed by Hunts when they get injured or are considered 'redundant'.
The Hunt lobby has had decades to get its house in order and stop terrorising wildlife/ people's pets/ other farm animals (not just foxes), and showing a pretty callous disregard for the wellbeing of their own dogs, but have shown time and again that they can't be trusted to abide by the law.
There are plenty of ways they could have pivoted their activities and continued employing people (to look after their horses and hounds, sew their outfits and supply them with quaint accessories to wear/carry) - there is absolutely no reason why changing the law again now should result in unemployment or affect anyone's marriages...

Are they?

Apparently so.

  • incidents are frequently reported where hounds divert from the artificial trail to pursue and kill live wild mammals like foxes and deer.
  • Stress and Fear: Animals that are not killed may still suffer significant fear and stress from being chased and disturbed by the passing hunts.
