Ordered pizza tonight. A very rare treat. Had one slice and as I was turning away to deal with ds2, ds1 (5) smothered my fucking pizza with sauce.

i don’t know wtf he was thinking either

It would be ruined for me too.
Get rid of the ketchup.
A good excuse for it to be restricted going forward.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 22/12/2025 22:52

I think its OK to get really angry about this but also to immediately forgive the child. This will teach him to be more careful. It's also the kind of thing kids experience themselves, God knows they can get upset over foods touching or being the wrong shape or colour, so he should understand how you feel. Kids often just don't associate mums with having the same feelings they have so this is a good moment for him to realise you may actually be a human and not just his Mum

Pavementworrier · 22/12/2025 22:55

You could punish him but you won't so

Ski37 · 22/12/2025 23:22

I’m with you OP. Ketchup on a pizza is an unforgivable sin!
You are not wrong for wanting to enjoy it in peace. Next time maybe get one for you and one for the kids 😂

Allthesnowallthetime · 22/12/2025 23:27

Aw he was probably trying to be helpful!

It reminds me of the time our then 3 year old helped by polishing the shoes.

With my toothbrush.

MorningCoffees2 · 22/12/2025 23:44

I once bought a pizza and was so looking forward to it, when I turned around to see the cat eating the cheese off it. I may never recover.

crazeekat · 22/12/2025 23:46

Get social services involved. He is out of control.

whatawalley · 23/12/2025 00:35

It could have been worse, they could have put pineapple on it.

captainoctopus · 23/12/2025 00:40

Stick it under the tap and then under a hot grill for a couple of minutes to crisp it up.

Pippa12 · 23/12/2025 00:49

Straw that broke the camels back. We rarely get takeaways so I can appreciate your devastation! They are so expensive too. They do the wildest things these kids sometimes!

YANBU.

It’s the swearing making me think YABU. I know this is just Mumsnet but still 👀 it’s tomato sauce on a tomato pizza, I’m sure you can scrape it off

Honestly, there was a thread about somebody’s ‘D’H hiding in the garden pissed and snorting coke in the middle of the night yesterday and your pearl clutching over the F bomb 😂

You’ve clearly never had your tea ruined by a well meaning 5 year old before- evokes all sorts of irrational emotions 😂

Pallisers · 23/12/2025 01:08

God that must have been frustrating - even more so since it was a 5 year old so not malicious so you can't even really indulge your anger.

I would take the time to explain to your son that he should NEVER do anything to shared food but only to his own food on his own plate.

amiadickhead · 23/12/2025 01:13

PInkyStarfish · 22/12/2025 18:22

That’s unkind behaviour from a five year old. Is there more to this?

wtf? are you waiting for a drip feed that he tortured the family puppy or something? unkind 😂😂😂 i can't stop laughing

Bruisername · 23/12/2025 07:52

Goldeh · 22/12/2025 22:10

There's a world of difference though between explaining "you should only put ketchup on your own food" and going apeshit while binning the entire meal.

I wasn’t advocating going apeshit!!

Growlybear83 · 23/12/2025 08:06

As this happened so early in the evening, I would have just checked it out and ordered another one.

Agix · 23/12/2025 08:09

... Just get another pizza another day.

I know, I think I worded it badly. I was agreeing with you that he should be told not to mess with other people's food and that there's a huge difference between that and a PPs suggestion about going apeshit.

I’m not pearl clutching, I just think it’s concerning to be that incensed over a pizza to be swearing about your five year old. It’s not a rational response, and OP’s further comments on this thread back that up.

OP says this was a rare treat. So maybe that's not the clever response you thought it was.

I would have gone apeshit.

And then I would have thrown the pizza in the bin in front of him to show him that he’d ruined my dinner.

“He’s just five” isn’t good enough. At five children know not to touch other people’s food.

😳

Have to say I agree. I know everyone’s budgets are different but you can get a small from Domino’s for only about £8. The ketchupped pizza can be the kids’ lunch for tomorrow so it’s not wasted.

This is where people can be really … I don’t know, what’s the word, but just so ignorant. A pack of mince is £5. I coukd get three meals from that.

This thread just got me thinking.......🤔

I have NEVER had a takeaway or delivered pizza.

I like pizza and buy a frozen one from the supermarket or make my own but I have NEVER ordered one and/or chosen my own toppings.
