how to fill a stocking if you're single

BeQuirkyMintScroller · 18/12/2025 21:32

I'm single and live alone. My friends all have children and busy costly family lives etc so we stopped doing presents for each other eons ago. No big deal honestly!

One of them suggested getting absolutely hammered, ordering a load of stuff from amazon and putting the boxes straight under the tree for xmas morning. It's a creative solution I admit!!😂 trouble is I don't get memory blanks from being drunk and the boxes wouldnt fit in my lovely new velvet stocking anyway.

I also wondered about transferring someone money and saying "surprise me" so they're not out of pocket but that's asking for time & effort from them, which isnt fair.

It's totally not big deal and isnt what Christmas Day is about of course! I'll take the dog for a lovely walk somewhere new and be grateful to be healthy. But would be nice to unwrap something with my morning coffee this year

If anyone has a solution...pray do tell...

I buy things early in the year, then by the time it's Christmas I've mostly forgotten what's there so it's a nice surprise! Sorry that doesn't help you this close to Christmas though...

PuzzlingRecluse · 18/12/2025 21:37

Hi not massively helpful for this year but I buy & wrap myself small gifts through the year to open at Christmas. I’ve always forgotten what I’ve bought 🫣😅😂

Mummybearsthename · 18/12/2025 21:38

If I was your friend I'd be happy to do that for you...I'd hate the thought of you having nothing to open! I'd ask them...they can only say no!

RessicaJabbit · 18/12/2025 21:38

Why would you be filing your own stocking. Who does that?

SparkleTea · 18/12/2025 21:39

Not sure if this is allowed but is there anyway to post an inpost address i would be happy to send you something from Amazon if you give a list of your likes?
I can message you the code to get it once delivered?

Hedgehogsaremyjam · 18/12/2025 21:40

There is a company where you can order a stocking you answer some questions and they select things for you. I saw it on her somewhere probably in the Christmas section

epicpaydat · 18/12/2025 21:40

You can buy pre-filled stockings online, I’ve seen them for kids, you could Google if they have for adults.

GovernmentFundedSteak · 18/12/2025 21:40

Id put things under the tree but not in a stocking. Stockings are from FC so I wouldn't fill one for myself.

partytimed · 18/12/2025 21:41

Santasorted.co.uk you can buy pre filled stockings with surprises for adults or children

Reachingforthesun · 18/12/2025 21:43

I would just go shopping and then pop some things into your stocking. I'm a single parent, no partner so I've done this. One advantage of peri brain fog most days, I've already forgotten what I've stashed away.

partytimed · 18/12/2025 21:44

Or buy yourself a beauty advent calendar if you like that kind of thing - lots of lovely little surprises

Eenameenadeeka · 18/12/2025 21:44

I wonder if a small local family owned type store might help, put the gifts together and wrap them and you just pay without seeing what the gifts are

More People than you think! I’m pretty sure there was a recent thread about this,

im a single mum, no family, my little boy is still a child, as the op my friends all have families, if I didn’t buy myself gifts then no one would.

I do my own when I do my DC’s. They like me to open things when they do. And I get to choose my own stuff. One of the perks of being single. Who else is going to buy me stocking gifts?
What’s wrong with that? Am I missing a MN faux pas here?

Far more concise than my response, and spot on. Thank you for that!
OP - the advent calendar’s are a great idea and might even be on offer given it’s so close to Christmas. I’m going to look for one for myself.

Jugendstiel · 18/12/2025 21:52

I'd think less about wantinga surprise and more about getting things that I really look forward to. So fill the stocking with a really luxurious bubble bath or bath oil, maybe body lotion and handsoap, some new make up or products for a home facial, manicure and pedicure (if you like that sort of thing) a novel or two by authors you love, maybe an interiors magazine, some food treats you wouldn't normally have, a beautiful mug and some fancy teas or coffees, a new notebook and a diary for planning some fun in the year ahead, really soft new socks.

Then on Christmas morning, I'd have a hot drink in the new mug, run a bath with the new scents, read the new novel in it, then watch some good films while snacking on the food treats.

Under the tree, I'd put a couple of bigger items - maybe some new clothes, boots or shoes, a new lamp or house plant. And presents for the dog.

NMWchanges · 18/12/2025 21:53

@BeQuirkyMintScroller I buy the Harrods Beauty Advent Calendar and open all 25 days on Christmas Day. That’s 25 presents, plus I buy PJs and decent chocolate.

Imdreamingofapeacefulxmas · 18/12/2025 21:55

@Hedgehogsaremyjam that's an excellent idea .
Id struggle to buy for my friends let alone sticking

I read it thanks.

One of my sister's is a single parent, the other has no kids, we do each others stockings...

SkinnyOatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 18/12/2025 21:56

I would gladly do this for a friend.

Alternatively do you have a lovely independent gift shop near by? Perhaps take your stocking and ask them to choose and parcel in tissue 5-8 items with a rough outline and budget? My local one would definitely enjoy this and be grateful for the business.
ie. 5-8 items / £100
Sweets/chocolate x2
Something to wear (gloves/socks/scarf)
Shower/bath product
For the home (wooden spoon/mug/tea towel)
Stationary
Candle

Imdreamingofapeacefulxmas · 18/12/2025 21:56

@NMWchanges that an excellent idea.

I've done that for my dds, one has nivea on Xmas day and one has anthropology

Libre2 · 18/12/2025 21:57

Woah!! I have just bought one for next year! Thank you so much. OP - definitely get one of these - 24 unknown gifts!
