how to fill a stocking if you're single

BeQuirkyMintScroller · 18/12/2025 21:32

I'm single and live alone. My friends all have children and busy costly family lives etc so we stopped doing presents for each other eons ago. No big deal honestly!

One of them suggested getting absolutely hammered, ordering a load of stuff from amazon and putting the boxes straight under the tree for xmas morning. It's a creative solution I admit!!😂 trouble is I don't get memory blanks from being drunk and the boxes wouldnt fit in my lovely new velvet stocking anyway.

I also wondered about transferring someone money and saying "surprise me" so they're not out of pocket but that's asking for time & effort from them, which isnt fair.

It's totally not big deal and isnt what Christmas Day is about of course! I'll take the dog for a lovely walk somewhere new and be grateful to be healthy. But would be nice to unwrap something with my morning coffee this year

If anyone has a solution...pray do tell...

The beauty advent calendars are a great idea. There's a lady on you tube who bought one for herself and she's having a lovely time opening all the boxes of beauty gifts. Some really nice products too. She got hers from M&S

Caroparo52 · 19/12/2025 23:39

Easily resolved. "The Dog" always goes over the top with my gifts... a quooker tap, a Jo Malone Advent Calender, A ski holiday, Putting the heating on whenever I want. Use your imagination.....

My dd got a present from her bf where a bookshop delivered her a book each month for the year. She just had to generally give her likes ansd dislikes and every month a book arrived. She absolutely loved it. Again too late for this year but maybe something to do for the year so you have a regular surprise.

Why would you be filing your own stocking. Who does that?

why not?

nothtatlongago · 20/12/2025 05:10

I hope the sales assistant is able to help! I also live alone, no kids and in a different country to my family. Even when with exH he was useless at gifts so I did both stockings.
id go down the route others have mentioned of things I'm excited about rather than surprises. So fancy chocolate, lovely toiletries I wouldn’t generally splash out on. A nice piece of jewellery I’d been eyeing up all year etc.

Limonatamum · 20/12/2025 06:14

What about buying a gift or beauty box from somewhere where they’ll deliver it and you can enjoy getting all the little bits out, don’t spend too long looking at what’s in it when you’re ordering and it’ll be a nice surprise! Places like don’t buy her flowers, treat box, OK beauty box, look fantastic beauty box, glossybox etc! You could do a subscription if you’re single, then it’s always a nice treat surprise

Feel better now do you? Perhaps you need to think about the issues in your own life first.

whittingtonmum · 20/12/2025 08:42

Ask one or two close friends if they wouldn't mind swapping presents with you at Xmas as you don't have anything to open. My friend gave me some lovely Xmas gifts last night. I didn't expect it and I know how busy she is with kids, work, hosting family over Xmas. If someone really cares about you they will make the effort (and ordering something online isn't a huge effort these days). You can suggest a small affordable budget ie £10 there's still some lovely things (nice posh packet of tea etc) you can get for this price. Might be for next Xmas though as it might be a bit short notice now.

If I was your friend I'd be happy to do that for you...I'd hate the thought of you having nothing to open! I'd ask them...they can only say no!

Same! I’d do this for you OP. Ask a friend - give them a vague idea of what you like and let them go for it!

Why would you be filing your own stocking. Who does that?

That's a very unkind response, probably not needed. Clearly the OP is going to do their own stocking, no need to further question it.

Daftypants · 20/12/2025 09:06

I think the idea of going to a small independent shop , having a conversation with them ( maybe email in advance) and they pick / wrap some surprises is a lovely thing to do

queenofwandss · 20/12/2025 09:23

OP what about an advent calendar? They would be a surprise and will take time to open.

sammylady37 · 20/12/2025 09:42

late for this year, but for next year and onwards, I’m another one who buys things early in the year, wraps them and puts them away. Come December, I’ve no recollection what they are. It’s lovely.

LordBummenbachsMagnificentBalls · 20/12/2025 09:56

I’m a bit late to the thread @BeQuirkyMintScroller but I’m similar as I’m a lone parent, no gifts expected from family and friends and for the last 3 years I’ve ordered boxes from https://themysterygiftbox.com to open myself. They are a mix of small items, notepad and sweets and socks etc but it’s a surprise and you can personalise it by selecting options

Woah!! I have just bought one for next year! Thank you so much. OP - definitely get one of these - 24 unknown gifts!

I’d already bought one of the listed ones but tempted to try this. I’ve never used Wowcher though, is it legit?

I didn't see whatever it was before it was removed!

Thank you for the support, but whatever it was no harm done; it's just a greater-spotted common internet troll. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I read it thanks.

One of my sister's is a single parent, the other has no kids, we do each others stockings...

Well lucky them. Maybe the OP isn’t in the same situation? Thoughtless comment which can only make the OP feel bad.

Imaginingdragonsagain · 20/12/2025 12:35

Hope you’re able to use some of these ideas OP and have a lovely Christmas. In January, for next Christmas, I’d buy one thing a month for a while and wrap them up. I’d have no idea what they were in December!! Sorry about your mum and sister. Hope things improve.

ForTipsyFinch · 20/12/2025 15:56

Can your friends not do this for you?

comeondover · 26/12/2025 13:55

partytimed · 18/12/2025 21:41

Santasorted.co.uk you can buy pre filled stockings with surprises for adults or children

Thanks for this tip. My stocking was good value and better than expected (had no idea what to expect really, just took a punt)
